  • After 600 plus miles on the KRX, it's time to address the issues you hear about on the Facebook groups. Are the knuckles a big deal? What about the one way bearing? Should that or any of the other issues stand in the way of you picking up a KRX? Garrett answers those questions in this video.

    For those watching today, the knuckle issue was resolved with a design change mid way through the 2020 model.

    Hey I know that John Hester guy1 lol. Thanks for the props. So here is everything that we know on these issues.
    Axles:
    It was on the line issue of them not pushing in and "clicking" the snap rings in all the way, not a defect, BUT due to the axles coming out could damage the axle or even the rear diff. a "Factory Directed Modification" was issued to everyone to have there axles inspected. Kawi fixing ALL issues.
    Knuckles:
    I talked with Kawi and showed them my video of what we did, Our Tech rep agreed that it is a good viable fix, BUT it only happens at FULL lock and the suspension going through it's full range of downward motion, bigger heavier tires it is more likely to happen because of the twisting force from added weight. He did say by modding the knuckle it will be harder for them to warranty, BUT also said, "Hey if it fixes it and you never break a knuckle, was well worth it".
    Suspension knock:
    We believe it is the sound of the cups slapping the crossovers for the most part. Perhaps if a different material was used it could quiet it? Time will tell what every aspect could be. We do also know the front bushings are very thin and upgrading bushing to Brute Performance UHMW set will make the front end much more reliable and eliminate and front or back a-arm movement from the thin stock bushings. We have not yet tested but want to test to see if the sound is also attributed to the front sway bar, has anyone run the front sway bar disconnected to see if the sound changed?
    One way bearing:
    Kawi Tech DID confirm it was first run bearings that had an issue, and since then after 1st batch 0 reports from second batch on, was a very small amount, less then .5% as well. No more new issues should arise from that. (only very early models made up to November 2019).
    About all I got, hope that helps :)

    I think you did a great job discussing the potential problems with the KRX. One thing we all need to recognize is what you pointed out. This is a first generation machine. First Gen. are bound to have problems. The other point is that there are no perfect machines. I’m a CAN-AM shopper however, every time I see the KRX at a dealership, I’m very impressed. The KRX is a beast. I will consider the KRX when I decide to pull the trigger. Thanks to great reviews like this one, I know Kawasaki will stand behind there product. Thanks.

    Long but informative video. Lol. I bought a pretty well loaded KRX used with 8 hrs and 40 miles on it. I have been off road all my life,raced 3 wheelers,had crawlers,blah,blah. Never owned a sxs,and i am a Honda guy at heart! I love this machine! Everything you said made sense and the only problem so far is the gas gauge,personally not a huge deal,but for for 20k should work. I do suggest toying with shock adjustments to tune it in a little.

    Seen my comment on your screen. I can tell you at the point what we have found . Kawasaki tech came to my dealer and had them tear the transmission apart. The tech thought it was a dog gear in the trans misformed . Went back to California and discovered that it in fact was not misformed. Had the dealer re assembly the transmission. This time the dealer discovered that there was a gap between a gear and a bearing on one shaft. Figured out that the bearing was Not pressed fully and seated in place. All new parts have been ordered to replace all in this area. When I get it back hopefully by this weekend or first of next week I will test and report my findings on Facebook to share with others that may be having this issue. Again Kawasaki has been great and as doing all they can to make it right. Thanks for your time. Mark A. Meredith

    The sound from the shock is from the crossover rings. I spoke with Kawasaki and even sent them a video of my machine making the noise and they told me that it was normal. It bugged the heck out of me so I adjusted the crossover rings so they would not make contact as easily and the noise went away. My rear shocks made the same noise but not as noticeable. The adjustment I made isn't that big of a deal because most of my riding is in the woods at slower speeds. If I rode more aggressive and was hitting the whoops then I would have left them and lived with it.

      @@NewTrip_NewAdventure It did for me. It took some diagnosing initially but it bugged the heck out of him so I was determined to find it. I adjusted them and it quit. It will only do it now if I hit something hard enough to cause the upper spring to collapse. The upper spring is what is mostly used at lower speeds and it isn't until you drive more aggressive that lower spring gets used. That is my understanding of the basics to a dual rate shock. I also adjusted the rear because they were doing it but just not as bad. Hope this helps!

    IMO, Michigan Mud Masters is correct about what's causing the shock noise. Raise your crossover rings (not the top preload nuts, but the next below that) up 1 inch and I about guarantee your noise will go away. After doing this on mine, it didn't leave much room to adjust the preload, but you could always move the crossover rings back down a little if you ran into clearance issues. My noise seemed to come more from the rear, but I lowered the crossover rings on all 4 shocks. This just lets you get a little more travel out of the top spring before it engages the main spring.

      @@DerangedOffRoad you can jack up the front of the machine to take pressure off the shocks, then I used an old flathead screwdriver that was kinda rounded over and a hammer to loosen the 2 rings/ nuts. I ride with 3 YXZ’s, 2 sport shifts and a 1000R, in the type of terrain they aren’t supposed to be able to handle. Tighter wooded Appalachian trails. No clutch issues whatsoever. They do have to hit some things harder than I’d feel comfortable on such an expensive machine but they take it fine. The only real issue I see is the radiator clogs with mud way too easily so you have to be careful about overheating. Impressive machines for sure. There are also numerous Polaris atvs and side by sides in my group including 3 RZRs. The keyboard warriors would have you think I’m towing someone back every ride. They’ve all been very dependable buggies. They squeak and rattle more than my Teryx, but they’re a pile of fun and they’ve been dependable units. All brands have strengths and weaknesses but generally if you take care of your machine and do the proper maintenance it should hold up pretty well.

    I'll also add that I had huge problems with the fit and finish on some of the Kawasaki accessories-- mainly the headlight guard, taillight guard set, and rear bumper. (I ordered the protection package) Parts were simply welded on crooked and out of position, causing fitment issues and looking generally crappy. The quality control was non- existent! Dealer got replacement parts and they had the exact same issues. Kawasaki has called me and they're supposed to be looking in their warehouse for some good parts and have the dealer attempt to install them. Trust me, this has nothing to do with the installer... it's bad junk Chinese parts. The only tubular steel parts that were ok are the nerf bars and front bumper. All the plastic parts were just fine, with the exception of junky hardware.

    Try running limit straps on front shocks for the noise. Check out [Shock Therapy's] limit strap video. As far as sag after adding accessories/weight, or after time all shocks will sag more. Check out Shock Therapy's video on shock sag or adjusting preload/ride height. Preload/ride height should be adjusted periodically to maintain performance on all side by sides.

    I got my KRX on Halloween of last year. 1300 miles so far. The only issue I've had is a broken knuckle. I should have it back today or tomorrow. Apparently, Kawi now has a revised knuckle. Curious to see the difference. FWIW, my control arms didn't have marks on them from the knuckles, and the knuckle broke while riding at a casual 20 mph on a sandy trail. Didn't even hit anything.
    The dealer checked the clutch bolts and they were all tight; they checked the axles and they were in just fine too.
    BTW at 1300 miles, my tires are pretty much shot. Yeah there are still lugs, but they're so short now they aren't hooking up nearly as well as when they were new.

I always told my customers (it holds true for quads SXS’s ect) when a component breaks (especially under the condition you mentioned) it’s what you put the machine through yesterday, last week last month ect. I will be interested in new upper springs when they start to become available. I believe the lowers are probably going to be heavy enough not to sag, and I think either a longer, or maybe just a heavier upper spring will solve all the problems. Not a suspension expert, but it can't be that hard to solve. As for the knuckle thing, I did what Hesters did, but I only ground an angle on the rear stops. The fronts are not hitting. Waiting for the stay at home mandate to be lifted to take it in to have the rear axles inspected. No problems with them in 150 miles, but might as well have them checked and documented since I received the notice. I also followed the Kawasaki recommended break in and have no one way bearing issues.
    Stay safe everyone.

      I completely agree. The upper preload springs are weak. The lower springs seem to be ok and may never have any issues. The problem I have is they is and always has been issues on many other machines for years. Especially the Polaris are Rzr XP’s. This is why the aftermarket companies Capitalize on building tender springs. Because factory can seem to get it right !

    How would you rate the KRX with the Polaris Maverick Sport X XC 1000R or the X3's. I haven't drive either but have read (from Shock Therapy) that the suspension on the KRX is far better than other brands from factory. Also wondered if you think a bump seat would be possible addition and also whether it is possible to tilt the seats back a little, raising the front. Perhaps with a spacer block under the front. I like to 'recline' a little.

    • @DerangedOffRoad
      @DerangedOffRoad  3 года назад +1

      The KRX and Maverick Sport are definitely in different classes when it comes to suspension. The KRX is setup with a trailing arm suspension in the back where the Maverick Sport is setup with a arms front and back. The KRX gives a better ride than the sport. The x3 is now similar to the KRX. From my experience the KRX rides the smoothest from the factory.
      I've yet to see any body install a bump seat, and I think you could do the spacer in the front. If you like the reclined feeling you'll like the seating position of the X3.

    When the one bar starts flashing you have 3 gallons of fuel and approximately 40 miles to empty so when it's flashing start looking for gas

    Hi, mine is a Krx4 eS same knock, any solutions?

      On front suspension

    • @DerangedOffRoad
      @DerangedOffRoad  Год назад +1

      Yeah take the front cross over rings and move them slowly 1/4” at a time. After a couple of adjustments it should go away. You just don’t want to move them up to high but that is what’s causing the knock.

    • @DerangedOffRoad
      @DerangedOffRoad  3 года назад

      It's the spring divider hitting the crossover ring transfering the load from the tender spring to the main spring. Totally normal.

    I don't think anybody makes a quality product anymore. Be it Honda, etc.. I think they all collude together and just produce crap knowing people will take what they get because they don't have a choice.

      Between the frame and the skid plate. Mine was kinked and broken. Dealership spliced it together. Caused lots of issues.

      @@chrisfrohnhofer2965 I see, no we had zero issues on the two seater and the four looks good as well. I have not heard about that issue either from others.

      There’s so many issues with mine that I believe there was a problem at the factory on the assembly line. The frame where the front shock mounts at the top on the drivers side broke. I also have weld that ran down the frame. Bots don’t do that. I have pics if you would like to see them and comment on. Just send me an email or number.
