The literary artists of ancient China have often associated autumn with a sense of wistful quietude, where the myriad things begin to whither. Those swiftly falling leaves remind them of their own remaining course, inspiring a meditative period of contemplation and pensive creativity. One such example comes from a Ming Dynasty writer known for his rather uneventful life, hence he wrote:
柴米油鹽醬醋茶 Wood, rice, oil, salt, soy, vinegar, and tea
般般都在別人家 Every house has them except me
歲暮清淡無一事 Bland were the years and my life is naught
竹堂寺裏看梅花 Yet I relish the plum's blossom in the bamboo court

A peaceful surrounding, as gentle as the wind that blew away the autumn leaves, dyed with warm shades of brown and red, and tinges of orange on its tips. The trees swayed gently along with it, the branches waving silently like the hymn of a song that could not be heard. Autumn, the time where nature begins its melody as it prepares to close its eyes. The land continues its eternal cycle of death and rebirth, of growth and withering, where silence would soon befall as winter approaches with every fall of leaves that so resemble the snowflakes of everfrost. This was the season for the weary to rest, for the troubled to contemplate, and for every being to calm down with the unheard lullaby of autumn.
The sounds of nature in autumn resounded in everyone's hearts, bringing a sense of calmness that could not be explained. The fallen leaves would soon be replaced with a blanket of frost that covered the land, a pure white of frost covering the plants that would soon wither away. All that was left would only be bare trees, devoid of their leaves until Autumn arrives again with the languid beauty it brings.

How it feels when waiting for someone who is actually not going to return back. Deep down inside still is a hope. These wind making leaves flutter makes me remember him who made my heart flutter. Now that he has gone for so long my heart is lying on the soil. Memories step on it hurting even more than before is this wind blowing through my chest. He's gone so far...so far.

You're very perceptive! The writer's reference to the 7 objects such as wood, rice, tea and stuff are basically a metaphor for the basic human needs like a comfortable home, love, friends, and family, amongst other things. In the olden times, it is usually well established households that always have all 7 basic supplies, indicating a symbol of stability and comfort. The writer's appreciation for plum flowers and bamboo is for how they always blossom during the coldest times, as well as being able to stand through the harshest of winter like the bamboo. If you can appreciate the smaller things in life despite the setbacks and remain relatively content, then you have surely come a long way. (^-^)ゝ

She waited and waited for another five years until she had fallen seriously ill while waiting in the autumn. Her body suffered from the chill and finally she passed away when she was still waiting for him.
Her beloved man finally returned, only to be greeted by news of her death and her fresh tomb covered in autumn leaves.
