- I take a look at the Awaken Realms Puerto Rico Special Edition campaign. I compare it to the current 1897 edition and the Castles of Burgundy Special edition.

A couple caveats as the campaign was glitching when I looked at it earlier. A new expansion has been announced via stretch goals. Building tray does come with the standard edition which is wonderful. Buildings are included for shared board. Sundrop is available as an upgrade, this was nice but unnecessary in the CoB SE.
Looks like Puerto Rico Special Edition has got the goods
Zing 🥁
I do like the "Quality of Life" terminology. I didn't back the Castles of Burgundy Special Edition and regretted it. Later, I purchased it, from a game store, and have been very happy. I snuck in an acrylic tiles upgrade from the pledge site later. It is my favourite game.
Puerto Rico, not so much. It wasn't about the slavery aspect; it just wasn't something the game group wanted to play.
Now, with the new campaign, I "may" go for the $95 pledge. I think I'll dust off my copy this Friday and see what the group says.
and I think the Puerto Rico implementation has more quality of life value
Landscape pledge is the way.. love the miniatures
they are beautiful
Thanks for the insights. Great comparisons!
thanks for helping me on the misses...they are pinned now.
perks of having members look at it first:)
@@Neon_Gorilla my pleasure!
I honestly just want the regular edition but with the ship mini (toy factor). Not a fan of small unpainted workers and wooden components are perfectly functional.
I think this is totally rational, the standard has the dual layer boards and the building tray which to me are the best quality of life upgrades,. I think the ships only existing in the special edition will get many to pledge at that level.
I think the plantation minis look amazing but overall leaning more towards just the special edition!
they look great but will they function great? Not sure
I am going merchant's pledge. Added San Juan and sleeves for both as extras. I don't own any other version of the game but I played one of the old versions with some friends and was surprised how much I liked it. I like it a lot more than Castles of Burgundy even. I have the CoB deluxe and I think it's basically an epic version of a game that I just think is OK. But Puerto Rico isn't just ok, its excellent, so I'm in.
@@RainwaterGames yeah I think the pseudo interaction in this game will have it rise above CoB for some.
On Castles of Burgundy i totally See u dont Need the miniatures but this time i think the Game will feel better with it, thats why it Looks so good. The miniatures Are topping on the tiles
So the building miniatures for the main board are totally fine. The estate tiles might be ok in a draw bag but then you can feel what you are grabbing so I would still have to use the estate tiles to stack then go and find the right state tile once drawn…not for me but I agree it would look good
I didn't know about the 1897 version! I'm probably just going to grab that one
@@analog_arnie if you just want the game with good art that is the way to go
1987😆😂
@@donnakeferlis1649 I wonder what a 1987 Puerto Rico Farming game might look like 🤔
Oh! I was in Puerto Rico in 1987! Is it about political subversives? jk 😜
I’m concerned about the visibility of the roles being obscured by large ships and buildings depending on where you’re sitting relative to the board.
Totally valid. I handle thought of that
I think the 95 dollar pledge could be the one
It is the best value. I will say the CoB version is available at retail now and likely can find it without shipping. So waiting for just the special edition is an option. If you want the acrylic tiles and such then that is another story.
I think it looks absolutely amazing but my playgroup didn't enjoy the original that much (too little player interaction).
The entire game is player interaction with its role selection mechanism. You sure you’ve played this before?
@@mitchellp7739 Yeah but it was a very very long time ago. I think this was the second board game we ever played, after we only had the things like Monopoly and Stratego and Risk that everyone had, and we never really got into those.
Dogs of War got me into the hobby. I think I played this after, and everybody was kind of taken aback that we were paying so much attention to our own little boards.
We've played dozens of different (and awesome) board games since, so maybe now we would look differently at it. It may have just been a 'culture shock' type thing.
If you stare at your board against somebody that knows the game you will score very few points.
👍
thanks

Huh
And another forcebuy solo mode for a game that is clearly a non-solo game. If it's not optional i'll just pass on this one.
Solo mode is so stupid. A critical feature is other players
@@Neon_Gorilla I agree! It's even more stupid that it's not an optional addon. Not gonna pay for that crap.
How is it at 2 player?
My wife and I play it and its still fun. I'm getting this edition.
I actually like it alot and have played quite a few times. It changes some dynamics but feels like more of a chess match with alot of tension resting on somebody selecting production because sure enough somebody will select captain (deliver) next. Before roles are reset each player chooses 3 instead of the 1 on the multiplayer game. Outside of that rules are much the same.
