I really admire Live Lounge for being inventive and playful with the song choices. It's a great service to music to provide an experimental spaces to try new and unorthodox things. Some song and singer pairings don't go so well, and some make beautiful new music that shift the curve of our definition of good music.
rosecolouredglasses I agree. Not only is it a fantastic way to celebrate artists their works in a creative way but it can very often completely re-create a piece of music and make it appeal to a whole new audience. In my opinion music should be about shared creativity and above all enjoyment. Live lounge manages that perfectly. Whoever thought of Live lounge is - deservedly - sitting very pretty on a mountain of cash.
I agree with you. I especially like artists who don't do karaoke versions. I was just saying to my husband that it would be interesting to turn the tables on the professionals on the vocal competition shows. I don't think people realize how much goes into the process of making it sound different but still stay true to the original. I just discovered this wonderful channel. I really like it.
Susan Hudak-Scherer Awesome point! It already takes a lot of professional courage to sing another artist's song but to not make a fool of yourself by giving it a new spin is pure artistic faith and bravery.
All very good points. I wonder how many people in the general public realize many of the signature songs were written by someone other than the person who are known for it. Hey Joe, or Me and Bobby McGee come to mind. I just watched a documentary in which John Lennon is asked if he could see a time when the Beatles weren't all together. He said yes but not permanently, you need other people's ideas. From the horse's mouth.
This one has always been one of my favorites. Foster The People and Usher are two completely different genres but it works so well. I love how Usher put his own spin on the song but still kept it similar to the original. I love artists do this during these BBC 1 Live Videos. I agree with all these comments about how it gives artists the creative and chance to do their own spin on songs from other artists they like. There has been so many good covers to come out of these like Usher’s, Khalid’s cover of Tracy Chapman’s Fast Car, Taylor Swift’s cover of Can’t Stop Loving You by Phil Collin’s and DNCE’s cover of Hands to Myself by Selena Gomez. That’s just a few to name, I can’t get enough of these videos.
Usher has had a fantastic voice since he was very young. He doesn't show it off as much as he used to, but people shouldn't be surprised that he can sing "real music". Just because it's a different genre, it doesn't change the fact that he's very talented.
After watching this I think Ursher has been holding out on us all of these years. I think he needs to make a straight up Rock record at the very least an entire album of Funk.
YouOriginal Actually, no it's not a bass. It's a bass guitar. A bass stands upright and is often played with a bow. Usher is playing a bass guitar in this video, so actually Rafa Bep is more correct then both of you trying to correct him in saying that he is playing a guitar, because he is.
funkyspree24 It's a South Park reference. When Cartman starts a Christian Rock band, he recruits Token to play bass guitar, simply because he's black. The entire conversation we're having is just repeating those lines from the specific episode.
Don't you just love when artists do songs that you wouldn't 'expect' them to do, due to your own ignorance. Even though by now we've figured they love all kinds of music, just like we do. It would actually be a little strange if they didn't. But it's still cool when they cover a song totally out of their genre. I love Live Lounge & stuff. You always get that. I kinda don't care if it's good or bad even at times. It's awesome if it is. But just them doing it is so fun 🙂
Love his rock look, denim vest, black T and leather pants?! To his stylist for this show: you did an amazing job! Great rock interpretation of a great song. I'm not a purist and I don't think an artist needs to sing a song any other way than how he or she desires. Enjoyed this for sure!
I’m always so pleasantly surprised with these seemingly opposite crossover covers. I love that artist show that they are not only one sided, but that they appreciate others artist outside their own genre as well. More of these unexpected covers should happen
so funny to see all the hipsters getting mad because a pop singer covered Foster the People. Who cares? He's paying homage to them, and it's great. Get over yourselves.
everyone knows this is completely out of usher's league and not even similar to his style, not to mention a fairly odd choice for him. so with that being said, i thought he did awesome! he sounded great and he had the energy to match. what better way to celebrate someone's music than to cover their stuff? its not meant to be compared to the original, its a homage to the artist. by the way, if i was a fairly new artist in entertainment and a veteran with a resume like usher's, who isnt even the same genre, sang one of my songs? he could have slayed it and made it his worst performance ever and i'd still be elated. lol. luckily, usher's just too amazing to sound bad :)
If you're speaking to me, then NO, I'm NOT KIDDING. Don't kid when it comes to Usher Baby Yeah Man!! Usher is excellent at whatever he does Guy!! 20 years of entertainment greatness & physical prowless in a class by himself!! Hope this answer your looking snip remark!
How am I barely seeing this?! I love Usher and adore Foster the People and this is a great cover. I forget that he can actually perform and play an instrument instead of just dancing (not that there's anything wrong with that, I could watch him dance forever). ^_^
I think he should do shit like that, it's not bad at all. of course most people here are rock fans so everything sucks for them like usual, but this is actually very good.
A Marr not only he is playing a "guitar"/"bass" but he's a producer, producers need to know how to play instruments to get the material they wanna hear
I'm a huge Foster The People fan, but I have to say that Usher did a great job with it. The fact that he plays Bass is even more bad ass of him! Respect! (if you can't acknowledge that, then you don't appreciate music and talent.)
Never thought I would see “usher” and “pumped up kicks” in the same sentence but damn it works
samee
Ys!!!!
I really dig the ad-libing that he did at the end....
Brilliant version
Bruhh🤧🥱

rosecolouredglasses its a great song, no matter who sings it. At least thts my take on it.
wow he needs to do more of this kind of music. He looks like he is having so much fun.
Actually he looks bored. And high.
Nah he def looks like he’s having fun, he played steel guitar on his first album etc
I love how BBC Radio 1 lets us have a taste of all the different genres these artists can portray. It's amazing. Thanks!
This is cool. I don't often see rnb singers cover rock
The Hamster Donald Glover/Childish Gambino is one of them
The Hamster of course he is doing a good job!
Its not a rock song its alternative/indie
I M
Alternative and indie _rock._
@@topgeararchive2880 This cover is rock though
I think Usher is so versatile and can sing anything!
+MsDreamer187 ur wrong tho
If you call what he does as singing? He has a studio voice at most.
@@BlackZillaPrime Not true in the slightest. Watch his Tiny desk concert.
One of the sweetest bass lines in the history of pop music.
usher is feeling this song so much, love him
Had no clue usher could play bass O.O
Me either I was shocked
He can't he "attempts to"
He's black. He can play bass.
baretilgrin lol
baretilgrin lol
Usher with that bass is my new religion.
Absolutely LOVED this! Always come back to it, can definitely see Usher as a rock star.
The drummer was having a blast playing with his one. Loved it.
Been on a live lounge marathon and this is one of my faves
Ok now THIS usher is cool. Awesome man, keep playing that bass

Usher is definitely on his own level. Nobody can hate on this guy. He even did acting.
Usher has had a fantastic voice since he was very young. He doesn't show it off as much as he used to, but people shouldn't be surprised that he can sing "real music". Just because it's a different genre, it doesn't change the fact that he's very talented.
I love the sound they make. That bass is so bubbly and everything else bounces so well with it. Good video, and good music.
Great cover, horrible audience
Right?! Lol
Kyle P Lmao. They're like zombies, they should've just stayed in bed.
Kyle P indeed
Exactly what my friend Tommy was saying, cool dude 😎, shit Craic congregation 👎
Shit audience indeed...they're probs expecting normal Usher style yet he's rockin it out. All power to him I say!
This double back vocal killed it... Gave the awesomeness of the cover.
After watching this I think Ursher has been holding out on us all of these years. I think he needs to make a straight up Rock record at the very least an entire album of Funk.
i just wanna find all these crossover artist performances and watch them all! XD
Wow, I had no idea Usher could do this. That crowd was totally lame! I'm not an Usher fan or own an album of his but this was pretty awesome.
Usher should totally start a rock band
Love that this song is totally out of his comfort zone and he covers it totally differently to how he usually sings. Great job! An actual cover.
Love the drummer. SOLID.
I never would have thought about Usher performing this song! It's amazing!
His voice sounds so good!!!
God he looks so hype and cool playing guitar *-* Lol, amazing cover!
He looks cool! But he is playing bass not guitar! :)
Dimitris Spanoudakis
Lol I got so excited I didn't even noticed. Thanks haha
Rafa Bep Hehe,indeed nice cover!No prob...cheers :)
don't mean to be a prat but it's a bass :)
YouOriginal

WOW! So refreshing and good to see this new side of Usher! I am positively surprised!
Brilliant cover!!🤘all hail to Usher!!❤️
Usher playing bass is the hero I didn’t think I would ever want but has instead become the hero I didn’t realize I needed lol
Usher and the band is feeling pumped up kicks! Love it 😍
That was unexpectedly great!!!!!!
"YOU'RE BLACK, YOU CAN PLAY THE BASS"
...God damn it.
i don't get it. Do you have to be American to find this funny?
funkyspree24 It's a South Park reference. When Cartman starts a Christian Rock band, he recruits Token to play bass guitar, simply because he's black. The entire conversation we're having is just repeating those lines from the specific episode.
funkyspree24 No but you have to be racist to understand the stereotype that represents you.
thanks for answering :)
Definitely one of the best covers I’ve seen of this song.
This is really, really good...i'm surprised! The sound was awesome.
Usher killed this cover. PERIOD.
Don't you just love when artists do songs that you wouldn't 'expect' them to do, due to your own ignorance. Even though by now we've figured they love all kinds of music, just like we do. Usher is life!
@Usher👑 Versatility I hear 🎶💚💃💚🎶💃💚🎶
I love that Usher is covering this song.
Renewed respect for Usher..
Love his rock look, denim vest, black T and leather pants?! To his stylist for this show: you did an amazing job! Great rock interpretation of a great song. I'm not a purist and I don't think an artist needs to sing a song any other way than how he or she desires. Enjoyed this for sure!
The moment were

Fall
In love with Usher all over again
even though 12 yo me didnt get how big of a deal it was as a whole, seeing usher playing bass and singing this spoke to me bruh
I really like the original, and the dubstep mix of this, but this is just brilliant. It's cool to see a different side to Usher too.
That voice is oNly one😍
This is a combination i never thought would exist in a million years
Wow!! I love Usher and Foster the People! Amazing!! 🎸🎤
I NEVER expected this to be SO Good! Top work Usher! :)
Out off all people Usher covers this song. And he does it better than anyone else I’ve seen!
And he plays bass? Wow
wow amazing, usher should do more music in this genre, fits him very well imo!
My favorite artist USHER.
Just when I thought no cover could surprise me. This is crazy good!
Love it! And Usher can definitely play bass!
I was pleasantly surprised by this
MyChemical Kawaii love your name🙌🙌
I love all this stuff. what's really got me tonight is that....Usher plays the guitar! my mind has been temporarily blown 😁
Usher is doing a rock cover of pumped up kicks, how is this crowd not going insane?
Really impressed at Usher (didn't know he played my fave instrument). Great cover, I'm in love with it.
wasnt diggin it at first but then he really got to slappin that bass and it was all better. much respect to Usher for stepping outnof his comfort zone
Wow. Honestly, I would never expect him to cover this song) But he did it so cool)
I’m always so pleasantly surprised with these seemingly opposite crossover covers. I love that artist show that they are not only one sided, but that they appreciate others artist outside their own genre as well. More of these unexpected covers should happen
This is a VERY good cover. Didn't know he could play bass but damn is it good.
I feel very good energy from him. Esspecially in this song, it's the good Usher.
nailed it in many ways- awesome
Usher with a bass? Holy cow! Yes!
Yes, because I needed ANOTHER reason to love Usher 8)
What the fuck is going on. Usher play the bass? Im impressed. What a great cover, usher its a great producer and musicien
This is great. I didn't know what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised
Got here by accident, glad I did 👌👌
I love this song and the bass def made this song more awesome
so funny to see all the hipsters getting mad because a pop singer covered Foster the People. Who cares? He's paying homage to them, and it's great. Get over yourselves.
This is my favourite song in history however Usher killed it!!!!! 😍🤩
"run, run run" is probably my favorite part
Usher is so cool
everyone knows this is completely out of usher's league and not even similar to his style, not to mention a fairly odd choice for him. so with that being said, i thought he did awesome! he sounded great and he had the energy to match. what better way to celebrate someone's music than to cover their stuff? its not meant to be compared to the original, its a homage to the artist.

I completely agree!

I don't think there is anything this guy can't do
Definitely not his style... Definitely a odd choice for him... But I wouldn't say it's out of his league.
Jess M.R i thought it was fabulous, esp. considering its a song that's not in his wheelhouse. He stepped up and delivered as a true professional will.
oh dear Jesus, I didn't know Usher can make good music and he look soo good ! Didnt know either of them until now
Why am I only seeing this now? Damn, I'm not a Usher fan but I'm so attracted to him after this video
I love the drummer Aaron Spears! Dude is sick!
And I love how Usher gets into other genres!
Is there anyone know the guitarist name hahahah
Oh wow, I didn't expect this! I love it!
Damn good cover, I'd love to see Usher cover more types of music like this. Dope fashion too.
Is there a second bass player? i can still hear a bass line even when he stops playing... 2:05
NIce to see Usher rocking out. Good cover.
This is a terrific cover, completely unexpected of Usher!
How am I barely seeing this?! I love Usher and adore Foster the People and this is a great cover. I forget that he can actually perform and play an instrument instead of just dancing (not that there's anything wrong with that, I could watch him dance forever). ^_^
Usher 😘😍😍 amei essa versão 😉🙂🤗
Wish i had a band that could jam this well every day would be a blast!
I think he should do shit like that, it's not bad at all. of course most people here are rock fans so everything sucks for them like usual, but this is actually very good.
Loved this cover
He can sing any song
Perfectttttt
Every second comment " I didn't know usher played guitar" "uh that's a bass".......well done everyone
+A Marr LOL
Bass 'GUITAR'
A Marr not only he is playing a "guitar"/"bass" but he's a producer, producers need to know how to play instruments to get the material they wanna hear
This is fucking super nice! I’d love to see Usher make a whole album like this.
What a great version! And this is coming from a HUGE fan of Foster the People. He did a great job with this. But the crowd was horrible.
I still love this cover
amazing cover!!! :D
I'm a huge Foster The People fan, but I have to say that Usher did a great job with it. The fact that he plays Bass is even more bad ass of him! Respect! (if you can't acknowledge that, then you don't appreciate music and talent.)
Very cool Usher ;)
Wow this is good. I wish he did it in his style and reimagined the song. This is what I absolutely love about live lounge
