- In today's video, I demonstrate the 3 best ways to warmup your shoulders before heavy push workouts.
0:00 Intro
0:43 Exercise 1 - Increasing Shoulder External Rotation
01:21 Exercise 2 - Use Your Knee For Shoulder Rotation With Leverage
02:10 Exercises 3 - Internal And External Shoulder Rotation
02:53 Conclusion
The shoulder is stabilized by a group of muscles called the rotator cuff. When pressing big weight on a bench, we're primarily strengthening our anterior deltoids (front of the shoulder) to overpower the rotator cuff, pulling on the humerus (shoulder bone) and causing pain.
Doing a simple shoulder warm up prior to a heavy push workout will prevent injuries-especially for us older adults haha. I never start my chest, shoulder or back training without first performing these 3 rotator cuff warm up exercises (or similar exercises).
Leave a comment letting me know if these exercises are improving your shoulder pain.
Again, please-I can't stress this enough-always warm up your muscles before strength training!
