At the supermarket I pick my citrus as green as possible. I have from this last spring limequat, nagami, meiwa and calamansi so I'm keen to see what they are all like when still green. The edible skin will be new for me. Mandarin skin is crunchy and nice with chocolate but too bitter by itself.
The Calamonte I think they get sweeter the older the tree gets. I have a couple trees and the first time I had them they were really sour and then the second time they were really sweet. I think the longer they’re on the tree and the older the tree gets the sweeter they are. They were just like little Clementine and they’re really good like when you bite at the store and you can eat the skin and everything.
Great info! I just bought calamondin to use as lemons. I already have the kumquat for 3 years. I love that you compared the taste for... a citrus sommelier?😂❤
Daleys are being misleading on their label George, as botanically a Calamondin is not a kumquat of any type. Calamondin is Citrus x Macrocarpa ( or synonym C x Mitis ) whereas Kumquat depending on shape and place of origin is Fortunella Margarita , Fortunella Japonica or Fortunella Obovata. The difference is of course that true kumquats have sweet peel and in some cases ( Meiwa ) sweet flesh whereas Calamansi are bitter everywhere. My ( ex ) wife is Filipina and it's probably the most used citrus in the Philippines in drinks, cooking and an air freshener in public toilets, I suspect purely because it grows well in their warmer climate. Interestingly she grew up in the UK from the age of 11 and can't stand Calamansi and doesn't use it at all 😂😂
I’ve had my calamondin for about the same as your one, and it has just exploded with new growth and flowers, i even got 10 fruit that i picked in october
it's not that we prefer them green, it's just that calamansi don't ripen orange in our country coz it's too damn hot here. we usually pick them whenever we need a few.
Squeeze 2 calmondin on a chicken and oven roasted with the left over skins inside the chicken salt to taste and make a video..best chicken you ever had
I just put in a Meiwa, which is apparently the only Kumquat with both sweet skin and sweet flesh. Can’t wait to try the fruit.
Great!
where did you get you meiwa from
I have one for 3 yrs, you'll be so happy by how much fruit you get!! They are so easy to grow, mine is in a pot.

It's been fruiting 3 years, maybe you're right.
I agree
I love nagami over other kumquats

Glad it was helpful!
Спасибо за обзор, очень понравилось 👍
У меня есть три кумквата - Мейва, Нагами и Маргарита.
Мейва самая сладкая 😋
Thank you for your informative taste test. I was trying to decide which out of the two to buy. Your video has helped me to decide 😊
You're welcome 😊

Interesting! Thanks for pointing this out Brett.
This is actually a calamondin x kumquat not just a calamondin
It is very confusing when they use the same names like this
Im filipino but calamondin are hybrid by kumquat and another species of citrus
You will never come down with a cold!
Thank u for detailed video. Helped me to choose one of them.❤
Glad I could help!

Calamansi is good for cooking adobo! and marinating BBQ

Thanks for clarifying.
Thank you for sharing this!
You're welcome!
I am groing calamondino green and orange for the time being, I will try kalamansi too :D
Sounds great!
I heard if you take a star tree and bend it over for a short time and then you let it back up. It will bloom.
Tried that and also roughly breaking the branches tip. Neither worked.
Calamondin is a cross between tangerine and kumquat
👍
I'm a bit late but if you eat the full green kumquat it should be very sour
Ok

Our family is vegan, so we'll try that with Soy chicken fillets. Thanks 👍
