As a wings fan who grew up admiring his shootout artistry in the 2000s, im glad to see the recognition that Datsyuk had multiple signature moves, not just the drag.
I grew up a Chicago fan who hated the wings, and now I look back and realize I’d pick half of those guys for a dream team. Datsyuk is my all time favorite player, and Shanahan and Yzerman are definitely top 10.
I was fortunate to have lived in metro Detroit for 20 years from 1990-2010. 4 Cups. So many memories to name, but I agree, kudos to the video editor for knowing Datsyuk was so much more than the drag, which in itself was poetry on ice.
I love him but my age means no one but prime Stevie Wonder Yzerman followed closely by Bob Probert are my favourites. I remember doing a my grade 5 speech on Stevie Y.
@@henrihietikko8108Feds and Dats, are probably the two greatest russians of all time who happen to play for detroit, (also my two favorite players) maybe besides ovechkin to be a great russian ofc
Random, but I had a coach growing up in youth that played defense in the league. He talked about how he was always a step ahead and when you finally think you’re ahead of him, he’s already gone
Pavel Datsyuk with that move of his no one ever did it like him. That move was so unbelievable. By far the best two way player I ever witnessed with hockey iq off the charts and hands no one else can imitate.
Growing up as a die hard Red Wings fan as a kid in the 90s was incredible. Followed Datsyuk's entire career so it was a blast from the past to relive some of these classic shootout goals of his. :)
Toews really had a genius plan. He went with a simple quick shot from the hash marks which not many people do and it caught lots of goaltenders off guard. Once they figured him out he knew he could fake a shot from the hashmarks and go for a deke making the goaltender react too early. 1-2 punch
I love the Toews ones. The first signature move was just a set up for the second one. Make the goalie think you always go five-hole with a quick wrister. Then use it to get the goalie swim on the ice, while you go around.
as a Canucks fan growing up, didn't expect to see Burrows or even Raymond here because they usually fly under the radar for this kind of stuff but glad they got recognized!! Good job and thank you
So glad you included Franz Nielsen’s Danish Backhand of Judgement. It reminds me of Mariano Rivera’s cutter, even if you know what’s coming it still gets you
I’m a wings fan and I was surprised you didn’t have the Forsberg on here. Zetterberg used that for the rest of his career but Forsberg was sick with it.
This is so cool and fascinating. They sometimes repeat the move with the exact same stride, timing and everything. I imagine they practiced these since they were kids in the driveway.
The fact that he pulled it over so early while his body position didn't change really messed with goalies and their timing. Really hard to shoot too from that position which is why you don't really see anyone else doing it
Oshies 3 moves are so disgusting. He singlehandedly destroyed Russia in the Olympic shootout. Best in the NHL. Thank you for including all 3 signatures dope video!!
No way Oshie couldn't do the Datsuyk move. Bascially no one could. A few scored trying to do it but it wasn't the same. He made Goalies look so far out the net it was disgusting.
One of my favorites was Thomas Vaneks around the world move. As he’d approach he’d move the blade of his stick around the puck and then snap it home. So quick and clean. Surprised it’s not included.
maybe it could've been if the distinction between a "signature" move and a "go-to" was more clear. Half of these were just guys faking and roofing the puck...not really a signature move if half the guys in the league use it
That datsyuk backhand to forehand deke was so good because he used to do that same first movement and shoot off of it, similar to the barkov move but with two hands
@@DeltaHighlights That's why it's called a signature move. He signed that shit. Hence why it should be in the Signature Shootout moves compilation. The extra element of snowing the goalie to interfere with them mid attempt was kinda crazy. You even started to see Raymond realize how good it was and started to add it more

While the Barkov and Texier moves are sick cause they’re one handed you gotta admit Oshie having at least 3 signature shootout moves is the probably most impressive. Datsyuk is probably the smoothest but Oshie is just deadly cause goalies literally have no idea which signature move he’s gonna go with.
That move that datsuyk invented was by far the sickest move I ever seen an nhl player do. I remember that game in dallas and he did it at full speed. The whole arena was silent like wtf did we just see,
Ah, Franz Nielsen The Danish Backhand of Judgment for us Isles fans. Nearly unstoppable. One of my favorite Islanders of all-time, which is saying a lot since I go back to 1972.
Toews shoot out goals are so nasty. He got so many goalie with the quick shot on the 5 hole that goalies took note of it. Then on his second move you can see how hard each goalie bites on his pump because they are expecting his quick shot through the 5 hole. I just love the game within the game of hockey.

I can't argue with that, but what Barkov and Texier were doing with one-handed backhands is simply astonishing from a power perspective.
THANK YOU for putting in Gagner. I feel like he gets overlooked in shootout compilations. His rookie shootouts are ridiculous!
Datsyuk’s backhand forehand was absolutely filthy. That was his Go to move most of the time especially early on when the shootouts started happening.
