Convert a Recollections Zippered Ring Binder Planner into a Travelers Notebook

- Hi everyone, in this video, I'll show you how I converted my Recollections Zippered Ring Bound Planner into a Travelers Notebook. Enjoy!
Additional information- this video shows the removal of ring binder using a flathead screwdriver and blade. If you have a drill, you can wear out the screws and remove the rings that way. I don't have a drill, so this was the easiest I could do it. Thanks!
Materials/Tools:
Recollections Zippered Personal Planner - Michaels
Flathead screwdriver or drill
Awl or any sharp pointed tool for puncturing holes - Mine is by Stanley 69-122 - purchased from Amazon
Needle - Singer Heavy Duty Sewing Needles - www.walmart.co...
Fabric tape or fabric washi or duct tape
Assorted thick elastic bands - Michaels
Scissors

Here's a tip I got from another channel. Stack some paper and put it in under or near the rings. It will then raise your hand enough to write reasonably comfortable. Great videos you have. You are one of my faves
Interesting, I never thought of that. Thanks for sharing the tip. So, stack paper underneath on both sides? Left and right? Hmm...that will surely take care of the leveling and not getting obstructed by the rings. Perhaps a small pocket book on each side, because you need that much paper. I'm getting one of these zippered planners for 2018 to carry in my bag. I want to hold out for a really good sale and I have plenty of time since it won't be used until next year. I really like this idea and since I'll get it at a good price I probably will be willing to try this😂

Hi Kimberly, you and I feel the same way. When I saw this one on sale at Michaels, I knew then that itsfate was decided. It was just a matter of time. I tired to keep it the way it was, but it just didn't work out for me. I'm sure others are very happy with the way it was--with ring binders, but it's just not for me! I hope you make one soon. Omigoodness you are so smart!!! THAT IS GENIUS!! I bought myself the C'est la Vie cute Paris one and was thrilled to use my 60% coupon to FINALLY buy mine about a week ago.! But... my book doesn't open completely flat ...which makes it even HARDER to write in so I also HATE having to snap it open and close to take out the paper to write every time. Grrr.

Oh vegasjill21, I am sure you can do this!!! You'll breathe a huge sigh of relief once you complete the task! I love the style you chose. It's always sold out in my store. One day, I might get lucky and also avail of the huge discount and then convert it again into a TN! Converting it is more practical and makes it easier to use. Let me know if you have any questions. I would like to make my own using an old book (or one from dollar tree) but out the pages, get a Long zipper seam, some pretty lace to attach to the book's edges and possibly add a cute mirror inside.

Just a tip for next time. Use a drill to wear down the rivets and you can just lift the ring mechanism up and then it is much easier to get the posts out. I don't think I can de-ring my bicycle binder...may have to get another one or a different one because this is a great idea! TYFS!!
I was thinking about that while I was battling with the rings lol. Only problem is, I don't have a drill. Thanks for watching and commenting. It really is better now that there isn't any obstruction coming from the rings. I am into TNs, but I love zippered planners, perhaps that is why the moment I saw this on Michaels shelf, I knew it was not going to take long before I converted it into a zippered TN. I could not go that I mean use a screwdriver I would use a cordless drill and drill in the holes I would just put the different sized bits to find the one that fits slightly smaller than the hole. Thanks for the video It has given me ideas

I was just watching your video. I left a comment of great appreciation above...but tI wanted to say that those Recollections Zippered Journals are reg price at 29.99!! And that is what they are still selling for at Michaels. . So I used a 60% off coupon and got mine YAY and I love it but the rings ARE a PITA!! I am going to follow your lead and take my binder out...just haven't gotten up the nerve yet. lol

Have you ever tried 3 elastic inserts so you can have six notebooks?
Why didn’t you just unscrew the screws? Confused!!!
Hi Deborah...it's not a regular or standard screw that's why I used a method with the available tools that I have. If you have a drill, you can use it to wear out the screws. I did not have a power drill, so I did it with the screw drivers and blade method. Hope the info helps. TFW, hugs~ Josie :)
