Oh, wow! I can't wait to hop back into the game with the new units! I hope we can still box in the Cylon incursion by fortifying Helios Alpha and its neighboring starlanes. Once I figured that out, the game was a lot easier. I used Alpha as sort of a training ground, too as I could rotate fleets in to that area to get experience for their commanders. I would have them fly escourt with a fully upgraded commander's fleet which would fight any battle that was too much for the newb commander. Locking down Alpha would also let me freely move Daedalus to pretty much any planet that had a particular bonus I liked. Ragnar basically became my mothball base and by games end was packed to the gills with ships I didn't need after rotating in newer and better ships. In a way, I kind of hope they tweak it so that more Cylon fleets can get by, but I won't really complain if they don't! ;) Well, I better stop now. I can talk about this game for hours. :P Thanks for the preview, Spacedock! :)
¿What? ¿You can block cylon incursions? I thought they appeared randomly in any point of the map except Ragnar without taking in to acount fortified starlanes.
+Igor Okina Yep. You can do it. It takes some doing at first. But, as long as you can stop them if/when they exit Alpha via the star lanes, you're in the clear in all of the other sectors. (With the exception of the random special missions that pop up during play.) It pays to take your time and build up before moving on to the next campaign mission, too. Just wait and unlock as many blueprints that you can by collecting tilium and RP points from the random missions that pop up and then building up your fleets as much as possible until continuing. Note that this takes some time to do. I ended up auto resolving a ton of battles so I didn't have to play out each and every one. You'll usually win if you've built up your fleets as much as you can before moving along with the campaign which ramps up the Cylon's capability and tech. If you want to really stick it to the Cylons you can just creep and save. Like if you have a 100% chance of winning with a 12% chance of losing ships, I think it's fine to reload because you just _know_ you could have beat them if you actually played it out. So, there ya go! Go and blockade those toasters! :)
Another note: If you park Daedalus on a planet that increases Cylon FTL cooldown times, it really helps you be able to stop them in Alpha. In the beginning you might get some squeakers that get through that you'll have to hunt down. But, for the most part, once you lock down Alpha with about 3 fleets, you'll be set. Then you can start rotating fleets in and out of Alpha like I said for training purposes. (Keep your eyes peeled for commanders specializing in CIC and nab them for the later game because they have a skill that increases their experience. They also have a skill that boosts tilium from a fortified colony.) Once you're ready to build ships/buy blueprints/promote commanders, move Daedalus to a planet that gives you bonuses for those things and then send it back to a Cylon FTL cooldown planet. There's a rhythm to it. Also, once all of your planets are safe and have maxed out favor in the Quorum (move single fleets to planets in all of the other sectors to boost their favor), you should be raking in the tilium so you can jump fleets at will without worrying about money. :)
You really should have more subscribers! I enjoy all of your content, you cut the episodes down to a brief, but thorough examination of a particular vessel or battle, without the verbal diarrhea that some other channels allow to drone on until I stop watching from pure boredom! Thank you for providing this enjoyable diversion!
It would've been interesting if the Battlestar Galactica - blood & chrome mini series had a full fledged series based on seeing it was during the first cylon war. The amount of ship classes they could of had and by the end maybe introduce the vipers mk 3-4
There was talk of them doing a show with Blood and Chrome but its ratings were not that good, of course by then everyone had seen it on youtube or got the DVD.
If i remember right Blood and Chrome started as web series, later on, Syfy put all the episodes together. Would of been nice to see the Colonial Fleet in it Prime more then what we saw.
Shadow Lord I want sure if it was web or RUclips but either way it was a good show and when you get those 5 seconds of the Galactica in her prime damn she looks tough. Seeing eagle moss are doing a limited run of Battlestar Galactica models maybe they'll do a couple blood and chrome which is be cool if they did both versions of the Galactica and viper mk 2's
+jin pheonix I would have loved a BAC Series. Seeing how the War progressed to how it was in Razor Flashbacks. Adama flying a Mk II Viper due to the Mk III being less Maneuverable and likely compromised by Cylon Hacking. Or Adama being one of the only survivors on Galactica when the Cylons vent it's atmosphere after boarding the Battlestar. The Galactica is so damaged that it's completely refitted with inferior tech and the removal of the large Viper Racks, The Tram System, And it's armament of 60+ Main Guns reduced to 24. And it's CIC Redesigned. It would be interesting to see how Adama's Hatred of Machines truly manifest. Losing the majority of his "Family" in a disastrous Cylon Attack that leaves the Galactica Adrift and 96% of the Crew Dead. Adama would become hardened as he serves aboard the Battlestar Cerberus for a few months as the Galactica is refitted. Adama serves as a Lieutenant for the remainder of the War. (Just remove the notion that he's a "Rookie" in Razor Flashbacks and it works)
Okay, first, this just screams battlecruiser, I want it... Second, one of my hobbies is comparing sizes of ships from different sci-fi franchises and this thing is longer than the Home One from Star Wars, which makes me happy... it is shorter than ISD-II however
most ships from sci-fi smaller then an ISD are star war likes to build them big only Mercury's from Battlestar galactica , Atlantis, Hiveships(and some varity of the cruiser as they range from 1 km to 3 km)and goauld motherships of the apophis and Anubis class from stargate and carriers/supercarrier(and the infinity) alongside the CSO and CAS classes from Halo are bigger of the top of my head
and if you want to top basically anything ever, go look up the Iaptean Titans from EVE, the bigger brothers of the Promethean Titans that can actually be seen, flown, and fought.
or just take your Ieapetan of choice and park it in mid to low orbit and let Tidal forces destroy cities on your side of the planet, though this only works on worlds with oceans of one sort or another.
I truly love your Channel !!!. I have been a Spaceship Geek forever and as odd as it seems my favorite of all time is the First Star Wars Death Star. I saw the movie the Weekend it was released and such a Battle Station the size of a small Moon.. OMG.. WOW !! Love Your Channel Keep up the good work !!
I've watched this a few times and it has taken a bit to grow on me, but I quite like this ship... it actually seems this is more like a Mini-Mercury than almost anything else. A couple things with this particular video that stick out though... - image wise I did not see much of any views of the bottom half of the launch bays. - No mention was made of the number of viper launch tubes. I've not been able to find that anywhere. - It actually seems a bit bulkier than some of your images make out, based on some of the game plays I've seen on-line. Some thoughts on the Minerva... For as often as I hear it mentioned of her being a 'glass canon' on RUclips and in fan fiction, when actually placed side by side with a Jupiter it seems like it should have more not less, but in any case should be *partially* rectifiable by just slapping on heavier plating, though I imagine the gun emplacements are part of why it is weaker, after all, you cannot armor what is opened up by gun emplacements. As near as I can tell looking at other videos, the bottom half of the pods are not actually used to launch and retrieve craft... That seems a waste, I would have thought that would at least have a smaller flight deck in the bottom half to increase viper capacity... Maybe if they did a refit or block II. Were I to ever think of a post war refit for her... it would likely be in an attempt to make her more balanced and general use... like: - Update armor thickness to at least match Jupiter, not later Mercury - Update the inverted landing bays to actually be able to land and launch craft, but be a smaller scale bay than the upper - Offset the inverted landing bays in front to allow guns to be mounted like Mercury - Changed to be able to accept perhaps at least 120 vipers. Considering the size, I tihnk it doable if the lower pods opened up, say 20 in each lower portion of pod, 40 in eac upper portion of pod. which is still well short of a full loadout of a Mercury (since this is smaller than a Mercury, that only follows). - Perhaps a couple other non-canon items as well... this class should be large enough to take them. Question: Do you ever intend on covering the Atlas or Revenent class ships? Those seem to be two of your holdouts.
OK... looking into it more, I found a site claiming 12 viper tubes (I'm assuming per pod). That is probably accurate especially considering your own comment of two wings standard for vipers and the lower bays not being for vipers... But that does not really seem realistic for a ship considered a carrier/battleship hybrid. I would have expected numbers more along the lines of at almost as much as a Jupiter class (maybe 30 or so tubes per pod to Jupiter having 40)... since it is a mere 120m or so shorter than Jupiter, flight deck nearly as long but wider, and vessel having probably actually more mass even if less armor. Considering how many raiders Cylons tend to have it would make sense this would need to be teemed with a carrier like Atlas to have the correct mix of defense/offense. A refit/upgrade would make sense to allow for larger fighter complement
I know this is way too late but I think the reason why the Minerva is a fragile Battlestar is mainly due to a cheap construction and lack of materials. This would help to further detail how stressed the colonials were during the first half of the war. If you look at the visual styles, the Artemis and the Minerva share a lot,(Similar thruster packs, more square and robust space frame) and this ship design doctrine obviously had it's issues, so when Sinon Quade came along with the Jupiter and the Adamant, Colonial fleet adopted those designs over their own. TLDR; Colonial ships were limited by outdated tech, So they outsourced new ship designs to Sinon Quade.
It'd be nice to c some sort of option which would allow u to use ur FTL drives to teleport next to or behind enemy fleets, in addition itd be also nice see the flight pods deploy and retract on the Jupiter class battlestar (since the artemis class dont retract i knu)
Turbolasers, Ion Cannons, PD Laser cannons, Capital ship grade torpedoes, and concussion missiles, A few anti-station missiles, and of course more fighters than you can shake a stick at in an armored and shielded frame. The Empire would hide under their beds whimpering.
I would like to see a video like this on the battlestar thesis from battlestar galactica Diaspora I know it's a fan made game and it's not cannon but it would be cool to see it too so I think it deserves to be cannon it's such a good ship design
I wonder when they will introduce the Defender Light Battlestar (Seen in Blood and Chrome with the Ghost Fleet and as a Civilian Ship in the BSG Series) If the Artemis was the Constitution class Starship, The Defender would be the Miranda class.
Every battle where I aggressively use Minerva goes like this - Yeah, eat shit, melt before my guns you god damn toasters! - Ah the armor is down. ah shit. shit shit. run run run. Artemis all day. I like a ship that can take a punch.
Put a Commander with the +20 armour for the flagship in the fleet and make the Minerva said flagship. Comparable armour to the Artemis and hell of a punch all in one.
Ancient comment I know, but just in case you didn't find it and are still interested here you go: ruclips.net/video/AaUNlkJGLIo/видео.html Its called Skirmish 3, from the BSG: Deadlock ost, and is at 1:56:14
The only Colonial ship design I will not waste my Requisition Points on. Sure, it looks badass and has an impressive amount of firepower, but all those big guns aren't useful if the thing dies in the first ten seconds of being looked at by the Cylons. And, because it's a freaking Battlestar, you can bet the Cylons will focus on it over your more durable ships making the whole frakking thing pointless. This thing is not worth its weight in scrap as far as I'm concerned.
The Colonial Fleet is already so over powered, I don't know how this ship will help with game play. The Cylons need stronger ships in the game, that can hack faster. Plus the Cylon fighters AI is so dumb too, the Cylon fighters that can hack will fly into flack fields while hacking.
Similar enough?! Have you ever SEEN an actual Minerva class? The ship shown in this video is clearly based on the Mercury design and has nothing to do with the Minerva. THIS is what the Minerva is supposed to look like: ikandeathstar.blogspot.com/p/battlestar-hyades.html
Shannon Mcvey well both have dual flight pods. Sure the fan version is more "Jupiter" esque (And arguably better) the one in Deadlock seems more logical (I don't see much of the Mercury design aspects aside from the dual flight pods) it just looks like a modified Artemis/Aeries class.
A glass cannon if ever there was one. I don't think I heard the Praetor utter any statement more often throughout the campaign than "Minerva is taking damage!"
Well, this ship is going to suck. Lore wise and in theory it sounds great, a fast moving glass cannon that can get in and hammer enemy ships to scrap, but in real game play terms, the cannons of Colonial ships are ineffective at anything but very short range, so the Minerva is going to get blasted appart by the huge volleys of missiles the Cylons throw out. Its like the Artemis, but worse.
I'll check it out if there is a replay of the stream, but this really seems too fragile and brittle. My battle groups are always built around packs of Adamant frigates, usually with one or two Battlestars in support on the backline of the fleet
Thats not saying much, as the Artimis is pretty usesless in the campaign mode, since it takes so much time and resources to build one, but it so damned fragile compared to the Jupiter you don't dare commit it to a battle except where you have extremely favourable odds, in which case its wasted. Adamants are the heart of my fleet, since they can punch WAY above their weight, especially when deployed in packs and more to the point, they are expendable compared to a Battlestar. One should always try to avoid casualties, but one should also always plan for them anyway.
Bezerks are just not durable enough for me use Adamants and Janus classes with my Jupiter class Battlestar . maybe mix in a Ranger or two for either missile spam or nuke spam
These are actually the best ships in the game, hands down. Despite their high cost and thin armor, when deployed in groups, almost nothing the cylons have can get close enough to do any damage...these things are dynamite.
Be sure to check out the Steam page for the new expansion!

would love to see one of these in a SW timeline... shielded of course and with TL in place of artillery and LC CIWS.
Any BSG design in a SW timeline with SW tech would shred a lot of what Star Wars has
There is no need for turbolasers. Mass drivers in SW are worse than in BSG, but they are still very effective, since they ignore shields.
Andrew Bosko yes, that is true, but they are ammo dependant. a ship that size can carry way more "blaster gas" than slugs.

And, because it's a freaking Battlestar, you can bet the Cylons will focus on it over your more durable ships making the whole frakking thing pointless. This thing is not worth its weight in scrap as far as I'm concerned.

When someone asks which is better, Star Wars or Star Trek, the obvious answer is Battlestar Galactica. Obviously.
#SaveTheExpanse
This ship a lot to the original Galactica
Why do I have a feeling this is the Valkyrie in all but name? We know those existed during the 1st Cylon War.
The Colonial Fleet is already so over powered, I don't know how this ship will help with game play. The Cylons need stronger ships in the game, that can hack faster. Plus the Cylon fighters AI is so dumb too, the Cylon fighters that can hack will fly into flack fields while hacking.
what about minotaur ?
So it's basically a destroyer.
Would love to see you do a review of the ACTUAL Minerva class Battlestar, designed by Tan J in 2007.
+Shannon Mcvey the 2 Designs seem similar enough. (Except the Deadlock version looks more like an Artemis)
Shannon Mcvey I would have loved to see the "Original" Minerva class. Maybe we can in the future under a different name.

I've seen other pictures of the Minerva-class battlestars more like a Jupiter-class on steroids
A glass cannon if ever there was one. I don't think I heard the Praetor utter any statement more often throughout the campaign than "Minerva is taking damage!"
SGU Destiny
The Minerva looks like the anorexic cousin of the Jupiter Variant.
Its like the Artemis, but worse.
okay is there a replay of such a livestream pls ? the update isnt available for purchase yet i wana peak a little
I'll check it out if there is a replay of the stream, but this really seems too fragile and brittle.
