In the first ever idea of it I heard he was supposed to be full on evil and died of the suicide.
I literally shed a tear when the mom lets kids escape. Maybe she's one of those "villains are just broken heroes" characters.
SHE LITERALLY IS
She is. She knows the chances of them surviving outside is low and doesn't want them to go thru hardships trying to survive. So she tries her best to give them the best life to the fullest full of love and make sure they don't suffer when they die. It's because she tried to escape before and failed so she doesn't want the kids to suffer knowing the truth of the outside world. Seriously when she lets then escape and saying "I wished I could have loved them normally" my heart broke there ;(
Yes, mom (isabella) tried to escape once in her time, too, but failed. She lost the guy she loved, and was forced to get pregnant and become a "mom". The alternative would be death so she's forced to raise these kids and keep them in check :(
Well one thing is Isabella was also an orphan in that farm. She was lucky to be choosen to be a mom.. I think they let the kids who are smarter to have 2 choices.. to die and be eaten or to train to be a mom.. and Isabella chooses to train and be a mom for her survival.
After that while training to be a mom they are impregnated and their kids shall be taken and be put in the orphanage.. so pretty much these humans are just bred like lives stock to be food for the demons...
I have read that Isabella did care about the kids.. because she knew that they can't escape in that farm and if they do demons will just kill them so she just did what is for her the right thing.. makes the kids happy in that Farm before they are killed.
Like she has a thought of...
"I would do everything to make this kids happy even though they gonna die later at least at one point they felt they have a good life even if it's just a short moment"
And when she saw that kids escape she felt hopeful. She was hopeful that these kids are very determined and so she wish them luck when they escape.
She later btw die while protecting Emma.
She hated herself that she felt the kids would never forgive her.. and she herself can't forgive herself... And she died knowing that the kids did forgive her.. she did manage to help on Fighting against the demon.
Isabella was like Emma when she was young... She was friendly..very happy and optimistic girl until she learn the truth later on.

For someone with a tracker, mom is so clueless to what the kids were doing most of the time.
I'm sure deep inside her heart, Isabella didn't want for those children to die. She loved those children. It's very much shown in the manga

(spoiler: isabella sided with the children at the end and doesn't care anymore if she'll get killed or not as long as the kids will be safe, she got killed. it made me cry so hard)
And also, one of the reasons they don't keep suspecting Ray is because he has always been a really close friend, not to use his brain.

honestly, Mom is probably the most cruelest position a child in this anime can be put in. I honestly feel bad for her, but at least she gave a chance to those escapees. Yes, she doomed a lot of kids, but regardless if she wouldn't have chosen to be a Mom, another one would've taken her place, far more crueler and more brainwashed, that wouldn't allow an escape to happen, killing off kids if they even show any notion of getting an idea of what's really happening. If anything, she gave a chance to kids that wouldn't let themselves get killed straight away. Too bad she never tried when she was a kid....
But honestly, could've told that Norman might be alive.

She did try, unlike Norman, ray and Emma she didn't have a support line of friends she could depend on as you saw she tried to escape by herself in the flashback. Also, if she told the kids that Norman survived it would cause them to be motivated once again to try escaping. I guess she could've mentioned it while they were zip lining away from the orphanage but she must've been in so much shock that their escape plan actually worked that it didn't cross her mind

They don't leave when they turn 12. They leave when they're officially adopted (but, really, reaped) and 12 is only the latest age at which they're sent to the demons (but it can happen much sooner). Some girls are recruited, instead of eaten.
Some boys are recruited too, need both male and female livestock to breed new children and have a decent amount of them to maintain generic diversity.

I’ve just finished the manga, and this show is amazing. Even tho they’re kids they have insanely high iq, with Norman being the highest, which makes up for “how can they do all this at this age?” Part lol.
A lot of people seem to not like the story for some reason but I personally think it’s paced really well and well thought out with the only gaps being left on purpose and explained later on (which is really cool).
The only thing I disliked about the story was Emma’s naive, gullible attitude. Not that her personality is bad but, the fact everything miraculously goes her way. Kinda wish they had some mass killings to occur to her family in order to break her. Other than that good story 8/10
S1 was amazing but s2 was trash, the plot was great according to what I've seen about the manga bit the entirety of season 2 was just a rushed mess

No the thing you're forgetting is that they wouldn't have been shipped off if they knew. During the flashback for Isabella later on the series, she tries to get over the wall to escape as she figured out the truth and her "mom" simply tells her to come down and Isabella is raised normally and becomes a mother. Norman, Emma and Ray are high-value kids to eat, so if Isabella (even though she probably already knew at first) knew they knew, it wouldn't matter. From what she knew at the start they couldn't escape, and they still wanted to be eaten by the demons so it just wouldn't matter. They would just be raised and shipped off

I was so shocked when it revealed that Ray was Isabella's son. Also when Norman had to leave the orphanage.
Notably, about the tracking devices location: its in the upper ear which is all cartilage. This means that you can very easily attempt to break the tracker by say, crushing it, with minimal damage done to yourself and it would be more difficult to notice than actually cutting off that part of the ear.

So far, we've seen only Isabella and krone's past as children of the "orphanage", so there's no telling whether other "orphans" had also found out. Allsooo, they aren't ALLOWED to go after the children, that's why norman and emma were clearly nervous about going through the gate.

Theory: Ray is the traitor because he is the son of Isabella. Isabella is forcing him to tell her information or he gets sent to the demons.
plot twist: HowToBeatAnime is actually Minerva from the anime (minerva is the dude that helps the kids to escape during the anime with books and stuff)

This is probably the first time the protagonist's plan to beat their scenario was better than the RUclipsrs.
Manga Spoilers:
Mother plays a critical role in the grand escape plan. Killing her here would have made things easier in the short term. But it would mean Mother wasn't around to convince the other mothers and sister to betray the demons to aid the children later, causing the plan to fail and dooming them all.
The mother dying would mean she is dead, the demons would notice because of the tracker that's inside her and would send someone to check.
@@nothere3982 - I think you missed the point. The problem with killing mother isn't that the demons will replace her or it brings unwanted attention. It is that mother is critical to the later escape from the demons completely.
I said about all I could without completely spoiling what is a great story. If you want I could tell you why Mother needs to survive the first escape. But I recommend just reading the manga.

I was in an orphanage made for feeding on children but we already knew what was going to happen to us so we made an escape before the monsters could kill anymore children.

When i first started episode 1 and they were at the truck i thought the gate was gonna close, they would hear a voice and go in the truck and then go on an adventure. The story took a large turn from my imagination but i still think that would have been a good story if that actually happened

Me friend recommended me this anime, and told me Connie dies first, when I saw them walking through the gate, I assumed it was some kind of haunted house or something considering the dark creepy hall, and since I already know Connie dies.
