- *PART 2 IS ALREADY UP ON PATREON at / theloamranger * I have so much that I want to share from this one day of riding, that I had to split the video into two! Kicking Horse is a serious mountain. I hit bigger jumps, higher consequence trails and practically destroyed my bike in the process. Check it out!

Stop making me want to do this, I'm not ready to die.
The Loam Ranger lol
I love it how he says he is ‘going to take it easy on this bit’ but still goes ham anyway!!!! You are dope keep up the great work!❤️
Haha, well "going easy" is a relative term, I guess :D
I love the fact that your bike isn't the best of the best and your still able to shred trails and have a bunch of fun!
Just gotta get out and ride, no matter what! Cheers man.
Him: I’ll have to take it easy
Me: when are u going to do that
😂
dude I'm just saying I love ur content and ur a good guy to show ppl all of this I'm just saying I really like the way u do things so keep it up👍👍
The gondola looks awesome and that way my friends wouldn’t cry the whole way up a chair lift. Awesome riding.
+chadizms haha thanks man. Don't forget a blanket and a hot chocolate for your friends too, just in case 😄
Having ridden Kicking Horse before (2011) I will say that the camera angle does not do justice to how steep it is. Keep up the good video work LR.
Ya it's a steep mountain all around, for sure. Thanks Johnny!
I can tell it's very steep by looking at the angle of the trees as you ride by them.
I am from Nova Scotia. Calgary 06 to 2018. Now VanCity. Have never skied K Ho. Have heard great things. The biking looks phenom.
It's amazing to see how mountain bike trails are made differently from state to state. I'm from Kansas, and the trails are all a little up then a little down. I once traveled to Arkansas to bike and the trails were a lot of up and a lot of down. And of course in Utah and Colorado it's just all down.
chest guard is definitely a good idea there, but sure looks like fun.
It's true. Plenty of boulders out there!
I visited this place about 4 years ago before I was into MTB, and it looked amazing! Want to get back there some day and ride the trails!
I can't even ride a bike I just find your videos really satisfying
Thanks! Maybe this is the year to start. 😀
That rock got me back in July. Props to you for staying on the bike!
Ya that thing comes out of nowhere!
Awesome video as usual man! =)
Thanks Johan!
I love the video quality of your videos dude, it's like they're recorded by a camera crew or something. Quality of your channel is top notch, can't wait to see more.
Thanks Caleb! Glad you appreciate the extra bit of time that goes into these vids. They're a blast to put together!
Pioneer and claim jumper were pretty dry and gnarly closing weekend, the BC cup certainly made some ruts and bomb holes, go pro doesn't do then justice
It was a bit sketchy sometimes, for sure! I wonder if VR would be better at showing steepness? Might have to give it a try next season.
Awesome video dude! I can’t wait till I can get back outside and ride around, but I broke my ankle while riding because I hit a pothole and wrecked. Love you vids man, I can’t wait till part 2😁
Brutal man. Well heal up quick! I'll keep posting videos to speed up the process :D
YES! I am so glad you uploaded this!
Too much fun not to share! Part 2 comes out tomorrow :D
i did the same thing to my reign lol. bent the crank slighly where the pedal threads, had to replace the whole crank set
Really? Was it the NX crank as well?
no bro it was a x1, i thought the pedal stripped the crank threads but when they tried to rethread it the bike shop discovered it was bent right at the pedal hole so i had to buy a replacement GX crankset. cost me $175 all up
I just loved these trails at this Kicking Horse bike park mountain as they seem rocky enough in order for me to feel at home...
What a bummer about the misfortune of you hitting a rock with your pedal, I would've been really bummed out as I couldn't have reacted in the same positive and relaxed way as you did at the time it happened.
Just subscribed to your channel so I'll keep an eye out on your downhill adventures from now on buddy!
It was great! Well, when you've driven hours to get there, paid for the lift ticket and are at the top of the mountain, you gotta make the best of the situation haha. It felt very strange when pedalling, for sure but it wasn't so bad that I had to stop riding, thankfully! Thanks for subscribing!
Yeah I know, that's how I see it too,but I mean more about the fact that at the time it happened I would've reacted in a very angry and upset way because I know I would only see the fact that I eventually had no other option than replacing the cranks later on,possibly the pedal too which means that the other pedal that is still good would have to go as well, that represents money spending and that's the main reason why the viewers would see and hear me cursing at the top of my lungs for few seconds maybe even a couple minutes there...
theDownhiller haha fair enough. It's never fun breaking bike parts!
There will always be haters because they’re jealous of how good your doing on RUclips or something. I just started mountain biking because of you, but I don’t have a good bike. But it’s still fun. Is there any suggestions, I keep hitting the breaks when I am going too fast but I don’t see you hit the brakes that much
And my name is actually Leo but the email keeps call by me Lin
Thanks Leo! Thats awesome to hear man! I hit the brakes all the time, but it's just more subtle because they're pretty quiet. "Going too fast" is a relative thing, which changes over time. What seems fast to you right now, won't seem so fast a year from now (if you keep practising and riding). There's no substitute for just getting out there and riding as much as possible. Try to ride with people who are better than you! That'll help you progress at a much faster rate. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the suggestions
My local mountain! One of the reasons I can justify having a DH bike. You'll have to come back to Golden to ride Mt. 7. Hopefully by then it'll be ridable again after being devastated this year by a wind storm.
Yup I definitely want to get to Mt7 next season. I hear the trails are getting close to being ridable. I gotta support the local riding/trail club for all that hard work! Do you know which one is putting in the hours over there?
The Golden Cycling Club oversees the trails, but there's a GoFundMe campaign set up specifically for Mt 7.
www.gofundme.com/recover-the-mount-7-trails
What a great video makes me wanna start doing resorts. Looks amazing
Ya there are some rad lift access mountains out there that shouldn't be missed. This is definitely one of them.
Love your vids keep ur the good work
Thanks Lin! Much appreciated.
You are so Good at going mountain biking!
Kompic 1111 thanks!
Soooo good, hopefully I can move out there one day!
Crashvpd moving out to Golden would be amazing!
Wow. Haven't seen Kicking House on video ... Looks beautiful
It's incredible out there! Especially during autumn
3:16 flys by a slow sign. Me: noice
Haha oops 😬
Me gusta mucho este canal, gracias por el excelente contenido.
Just found this channel and just wanting to know more about it. Like the videos!
Nice! I post bike trails, news, reviews and how-to's twice a week on this channel. Thanks for checking it out!
I was in Golden today. Going through the Save on Foods parking lot and saw a bike hanging off a rack with a "loam ranger" mud guard on. I was like "could it be...nahhhh"..
Should make some videos riding Vancouver Island. A lot of fun riding here too. My fave is mt prevost
I'd actually like to get out there and do that sooner than later. Maybe even in November. If you're up for showing me around the area, shoot me a message on here or through Instagram and we'll set it up! Cheers man
Ya should try set sometime up in November man. The only thing is unless we get a shuttle it’s quite the hike up. Haha
I rode kicking horse in 2010 on a dirt jumper, because I was a dumb 16 year old. I really need to go back to ride this place on a proper trail bike.
chunkygorillas haha dang that would rattle my teeth out! Definitely go back, it's pretty rad out there the last couple of years.
Got to run an oversized tube in those conditions i used to run a 3 inch in a 2.35 tire on my old giant stp back in 2004 for that reason
My kind of trail! Fast , rocky, tech all in one!
Kicking Horse really surprised me this year! Well, maybe because I finally got the nerve to try some of their heavier tracks. So much fun.
Just had to get a new Sram NX crank set myself last week. Got 170 mm crank arms instead of the stock 175, and got a 32 tooth chain ring instead of the stock 30 tooth. You should get the 170 mm crank arms also, to avoid pedal strike
That might be a good idea. Did yours twist as well?
The threading in the crank got stripped cause the pedal got loose without me looking at it in time to tighten the pedal. The pedal (DMR Vault) is fine cause it's steel, the Sram NX non drive side crank arm was not cause it's aluminum. You must have taking a really hard hit is all. That hit sounded loud in the video. 170 mm cranks mean you get more ground clearance, and can pedal faster at the start. Just need a bigger chain ring to make up for the shorter crank arms
Ah dang. Well I'm glad the important part was fine (the Vaults!). I think the part is already on it's way to the shop, so I might be stuck with 175mm for now, but I'll keep that in mind. It's a warranty job, thankfully.
Have to love highend parts for the warranties lol.
love these videos
Thanks! Lots more to come.
Love your video's! How about..."I'll see ya on the mountain!"?
That works for me! haha Thanks man
Yeah!
I rode there for the first time on my hardtail, and I had to re-tighten every bolt on the bike after that ride! Lol
Haha me and another guy with an SB66 had to stop and do the same at one point.
Love it man! Have you got much of a plan for the winter? I think you mentioned somewhere you're not much into winter sports?
More biking! Gonna get out to the west coast a couple of times and hopefully overseas at least once. There will probably be a little fat biking in there though haha.
Yeah, Coast Gravity Park stays open most of the year doesn't it? A fat biking snow vid and you in Moab would be awesome!
Yup, definitely going to hit CGP. I'd like Moab with no snow please!
Good thing I don't drink much, cause I'd be totally wasted. Bummer about the crank.
Bruce Gudmundsson haha ya! Yup, still waiting on the new crank to show up.
I subbed to u what seems like 3 weeks ago when u have 2k and now ur at 18k wtf man!! Keep it up!
It's growing fast lately! I think a ton of people are subbing after watching my Blue Velvet video. That thing has like 700,000+ views now for some reason... Hey I don't mind! :D
Sweet vid, keep em coming!
Thanks Pommie, I will!
Take a drink everytime he says ha
This looks like fun I want to try trails and stuff
+kaide moss you should! Way too much fun to miss out on.
Keep up the good work #20k SO CLOSE👍
So close! I think RUclips sends over the Ferrari and gold chains as soon as you cross 20K, so I'm looking forward to that! :D
Great video as always dude🤘
Thanks Paul!
I know this is an old video but where you got a pedal strike is an infamous rock. I've crashed there twice and my buddy has too
Oh man, brutal! Ya it's a nasty one.
There is a mountain biking trail in French Lick, Indiana and you may like it
Edit: it is a walking trail too so people may be in the way
It is near the golf course
I'll have to check it out on Trailforks sometime. Thanks for the suggestion Rylan!
Moose Mountain reviews next season??? I know it's small but it has some awesome stuff!
I'd love to get out there THIS season if the snow holds off long enough. How is it up there right now?
The Loam Ranger No idea! Sorry man!! It's been fairly chilly and we're getting precipitation tomorrow in Calgary. I'd assume it could be pretty snowy.
Ya that's what I'm thinking. Well hopefully we get at least one more chance to hit the Moose :)
If you keep your weight more on the rear end of the bike it makes the front fell less rattley angle rough
And rough
Rough in summer rough in winter!!!!
That’s what I hear!
I just subscribed I love your videos , keep up the good work
Nice! Thanks for subscribing. Lots more to come!
Nice Videos!
Thanks for checking them out!
RANGER, this is a sick trail man, would be awesome to ride sometime!
It's a pretty rad mountain!
Long Island is pretty loose. Skid out so much.
Every time I ride kh I'm the guy walking down. I have yet to do a full day without a flat.
Crazy hey?
The noise is so asmr🤤🤤🤤
Trail noise is the best noise. :D
Sweet!
Sweet like sharp, rocky candy.
This is almost like bobsleigh
Only skied there but never biked there would love to head out tho
It's just as steep, sketchy and awesome in the summer as it is in the winter!
Nice. Do more pls
Thanks! I'm always putting out more vids. At least once per week!
I just found out what I want to do for fun for the rest of my life.
Do it! You won't regret it for a second.
When winter kicks in where are u gonna ride. And do you think your gonna go to the states soon or in the future to bike
I've been lining some things up that'll keep me on the bike. I'll be out on the west coast of Canada, down in the states for a couple of trips, then hopefully in Europe. It all depends on how the channel does though because these trips are pricey! The more patreon subscribers there are, the more I can get out and create rad videos. It should be a good winter!
I'd like to see you ride the Ibis Mojo HD4
Ya that looks like a fun bike, to say the least. Maybe this spring when I hit up some bike demo events!
Have you hit any of the local freeride trails in Edmonton, like 780 flow or ass over tea kettle?
I have! Not this year though. I'm hoping we get a couple more nice days before the snow really shows up, so I can film some rad YEG trails.
What kind of camera and gimbal are you using? seems to work very well
Homie lomie, I've been betting a lot better on my bike recently, and am just looking for some advice. How do I keep my knuckles from getting cramped when rocking around on rocky terrain? Thanks man.
I really want to do trails but my mountain bike is broken the rim is bent. Do know how to unbend a rim. If you do please I will greatly appreciate it.
Stunning view shouldve brought a drone
Ya I was thinking about grabbing one soon. It would be cool to add some drone footage in!
Love this trail! Why don't you do it more?
So many great trails/mountains/parks...so little time.
Hi, i am å cross-country biker. I was wondering why you aren't wearing bike shoes(those who click in to the pedal)? Anyways love your videos
Hey! Good question. I go back and forth between flat pedals and clips. This year I wanted to put more time on flats, which I find is a great skill builder in general. You certainly don't need clips for mountain biking, although most seem to use them. I'm happy to use either! Although when things get extra sketchy, I don't mind being able to hit the eject button and get off the bike nice and easily with flats. :D Hope that helps!
The Loam Ranger thanks
"It will kill you until you did from it." The Loan Ranger - 2017
What a wise guy he is. 😂
Hey lm. I am new to mountain bike riding and I think it is the coolest thing ever. I live in Chula Vista CA, and I only know of one trail that is good for my skill level. Do you by any chance know of any that will be at a beginner skill level? Keep up the good work man!
Nice! Well, Im not familiar with the area but I'd recommend checking out Trailforks.com and searching your area. It'll show all the trails, what they're rated as (green, blue, black, etc) and also show the topography so you know what you're getting into for climbs/descents. Hope that helps!
[Beavis & Butthead] Huh-huh...his crank is bent...huh-huh [/Beavis & Butthead]
What tires do you run? I think Maxxis DH casing is required for Kicking Horse :)
+hobmarg I think so too. Having said that, I've been running EXO casings front and rear all season and somehow haven't had one flat!
Dobrze sterujesz rowerem :)
Thanks! (I had to hit up Google Translate on that one haha)
freaking love your videos bro. already do road and track and wanna get a mtb. any suggestions?
Nice! Thanks man. I'd say rent a bike to see what you like/don't like, and join up up with a local group ride. Most bike shops do group rides for all skill levels, so it's a great place to learn and meet other riders. Hope that helps!
The Loam Ranger thanks dude! I'm not sure New Zealand has that kinda thing lol but I'll look into it. keep up the amazing videos :)
19:38 -> Hahahaha xD
I’ll see you at the summit
Always a good place to be.
How can you have soo good audio?
I don't use the clear, waterproof case over the GoPro, which makes a *massive* difference for audio quality. You run the risk of damaging the GoPro, but I've crashed hard on it a few times with no case and it's been fine. I've always been impressed with the audio while using this setup too! Thanks for checking it out.
I see a DH bike in your future...
Man I'd love to have one for these DH only trips. Maybe next season!
Will you upgrade your bike to the new 2017 giant reign 2 advanced the red one it's carbon I thinking of getting it it 🔥🔥🔥
Do you mean the 2018? I've got the 2017 Reign 2 currently (aluminum model). The new ones look pretty rad!
No
Man this trail looks difficult
It was challenging at parts, for sure! Makes it extra fun though :D
No you have never ridden rocky trails until you ride belair in South Australia Adelaid
+Old Mate Bob challenge accepted! When I go to Australia I expect a tour :)
The Loam Ranger hahaha come ride with us
KEEP IT UP. Also I'm making a biking channel called life as a Joey (ifht) what should I post
Ha nice. I'd say you should post videos about your life as a Joey, no?
The Loam Ranger yeah but with extra fails😀
I just made video
What kind of bike do u use?
This one right here (full bike check video): ruclips.net/video/fCMD2f4nTAs/видео.html
Whitch GoPro do you use?
Did you ride LSD while in golden? KH is tough on DH bikes I was surprised to see you on a trail bike.
Oh man it's SO rough on bikes. KH rattled a few things loose during the day on everybody's bikes haha. I did LSD once a couple of years back. This year I'll hit it again for sure!
The Loam Ranger ya I have to run through ever bolt on my 951 after a day at KH, aaaaand I probly lost a rear linkage bolt(Intense thing). I'll live in Canmore but am moving to Revelstoke in July, hit me up if your in town my place is 100m from the McPherson trail system in Revelstoke.
What does armpump mean?
Arm pump is when you're using your arms in such a strenuous way, that the forearm muscles swell up so much that you can't work your hands properly :D Seriously...
Holy shit that does not sound fun, also Im surprised you responded So thankyou :D
One question: tires might pop but do tubes??
Delta MB it's usually the other way around. The tires are generally fine, but it's when the tube gets pinched between the tire and the rim that it creates a little hole and goes flat. That's why tubeless tires/rims is so great -- no tube to puncture and the sealant inside generally takes care of any little holes in the tire itself. Hope that helps!
The Loam Ranger
Yeah it actually does
2 days ago I busted ANOTHER TUBE WITHIN A MONTH!! Same tire also!!
Thx man
Keep the great vids up
Ya I used to go through tubes like crazy. Also, make sure there isn't a sharp edge within the inner wheel that could be catching on the new tube. Cheers!
S L O W (Oh fuck it) 3:10
Subbed!
Nice! Thanks man. Lot's of videos to be released yet!
The Loam Ranger looking forward to it! 👍
Have u ever been to utah
No but I want to this winter/spring depending on weather!
I definitely recommend zions national park for just trail riding but snow basin or snow bird in the spring and summer are really good technical trails
And moab is really good to
Where are these tracks
Kicking Horse Mountain in Golden BC Canada. Check em out next season!
do you know of any in the uk
What is this bike???
Wizzy WR giant reign 1
It's a 2017 reign 2
This one riiiiight here: ruclips.net/video/fCMD2f4nTAs/видео.html
The Loam Ranger Thanks
i have that bike
Where do you live, I'd like to hook up and shred sometime
I'm based out of Edmonton, Alberta, but I ride all over the place. Where are you at?
The Loam Ranger I live in Fort Saskatchewan. Not much for riding here tho.
Where r u?
Where are you? :D
This was filmed at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in BC Canada.
