Most likely explanation for the house thing: the script said "I've seen a colony of ants eat through an entire horse." But the actor flubbed it and they didn't want to refilm because film was expensive.
I misread the title as "The Weeb Planet" and now I'm immensely disappointed.
The episode is more disappointing
@@matty.r23 yeah
Fun fact: They hired a choreographer, Roslyn de Winter, to design the Menoptra's movements.
Not-so-fun fact: The writer of _The Web Planet_ died on the 40th anniversary of Doctor Who.
how did you find that out
@@dalek_4252 Just bits of trivia I've collected over the years.
@@ftumschk cool thanks
"The Web Planet" was one of those stories I got stuck on while trying to watch all of classic Doctor Who. Another one was "The Underwater Menace" (which is weird because other people seem to really like that one).
The plot is all about a parasite invader that controls and drains the goodness of the land whilst forcing the inhabitants of Vortis to do its dirty work. It could be read as anti-royalist or anti-colonialist. I find the Animus incredibly creepy especially the voice. Sadly many people judge this story on its dated special effects. Imagine this story on a huge budget made like films of the time such as First Men in the Moon and you can see it would have been epic but making an epic story such as this on a low budget holds it back but you can't fault the imagination behind it. I'd love to see modern Who create studio based alien worlds such as this. If I had my way I'd have alien worlds in every episode for a whole season. Bring back Vortis!
And that's possible now with technology used to make the Mandalorian.
I unironically LOVE "The Web Planet".
Send message.
Awwww, poor serial. Don’t poke it with a stick, it will fall over. Just smile cooly and back slowly away.
I really like his one. It’s weird, imaginative and amdram all at the same time.
There ARE carpenter ants that eat wood. Maybe Ian was referring to those?
Of course nobody had any real idea how they were supposed to play their characters. It was directed by Richard Martin.
You guys havent done one of these on a while, everything ok?
I’m wondering this right now in 2024 lol
@@markwilliams7054Exci has apparently been taking a YT break for the last 7 months and Stu now mostly does non-DW content
Damn, that chemistry way at the start, i ship it
My mom really wanted to enjoy this story. We just couldn't
Same
The first TV show broadcast in full color is from 1954, FWIW.
We have carpenter ants where I'm from and they can be as bad or worse than termites, I've seen houses condemned and falling down so kind of "a house ate through by ants".
As both an avid stoner and avid 60s who fan, I can tell you that all the bad episodes do is ruin your high
I personally quite like The Web Planet but I definitely understand its flaws lol
I just realised, that statement could be read to imply that I'm saying I'm the person who disliked and I'd just like to put on the record that I'm not ;.;
I can produce photographic proof if necessary
Why was I not notified about the stream RUclips, you massives
I remember when I first watched the web planet
I was on holiday with my family
Doomsday had just aired

Jay, why have you got a traffic cone in your living room? Are you missing your student days?
You know, after watching this, I went out and bought a copy of The Web Planet on DVD. I may have missed the point of this video!
As for worst (I assume you mean classic?) Dalek serial... you know, I remember liking Death to the Daleks quite a bit. And I love Bellal.
okay
You didn't even talk about the underground grub people. Thumbs down.
000bs
Oh also hey- 1,000th view!
I like kill the moon
Third
you could have mentioned how groundbreaking that story was, there had never been anything like that on british TV before. And the whole story was made for about 2000 pounds including actors salaries, costumes, everything. Never was it meant to be watched in one sitting. Doctor who was serialised, 20 mn per week, filmed lived. It has to be appreciated in context. But some youtubers enjoy talking about things they hardly know anything about, so I am not sure what the point is to look at it by today's standards and making fun of it without any worthwhile insight...
A year later and this is still one of the most bs pretentious comments I've seen about the classic era. This is "Rick and Morty's high IQ copypasta" levels of bad.
@@BlueSparxLPs haha one year later you're still on this ? You need to go out more
@@jclebourdais10 I mean, I wouldn't say "still." This was the first time I've seen your comment and this video.
