It takes courage, honesty and integrity to publicly admit a mistake. Chapeau! Mr. Wittmann, I hope you have an opportunity to confront that dealer who sold you the fantasy Tsarist railway dagger. Perhaps even together with Alex! And we viewers would love to see how you deal with the bad apples in the hobby... ;) Thank you for sharing. Regards, Felix

Wow I missed this video because I was traveling to the beach for vacation this week and we left on Friday the 13th. So wow what a great haul this was with the nice dagger hangers and the great daggers and swords. Fantastic items and flags

    Tom-
This might be the best video you’ve done thus far-
    You are a true mentor-
A lesson to all who want to be serious collectors- regardless the subject matter.
Not many men would be willing to stand before an audience…revealing a costly mistake…
I’ve collected axis firearms for over 20+ years and believe me…it’s a minefield!
You summed it better than anyone could ever…”It happens.”

Hi Tom, nice Shin Gunto you have there near the end. It is a Zohei-To, or arsenal made blade produced during the prewar period.

The Japanese themselves did indeed shorten their blades at the time. Especially w/ the airforce so they could fit the sword in the cockpit w/ them. Officer swords typically wouldve been older swords cut down & converted while the NCO's are typically factory made in the 30's & 40's.

The dedication from the small Hitler pice says: Unserem lieben Nick(o) von seinen Kameraden der 5. S ST. A( Abteilung)
Our dear Nik(o) from his comrades from the 5. S. St. department.
So the person who owend the bust was a member of the 5. S. St. Regiment. What that was must be researched. Maybe it´s the 5. Sturmabteilung, from the SA. ST= Sturm A= Abteilung, but that is only my fantasy what it could be
That must be the right pronunciation in english.
I´m from Bavaria, Germany, sorry for my bad english :D
Nice video as always Mr. Wittmann.

Great vid mr. Wittmann . Usually you have to remove the grip off to see who and when the sword maker made it . The maker made his signature and dynasty it came from . Very interesting those Samurai swords too !!!

.Moral of the story, if you buy something outside of your expertise, get an opinion by those who collect in that field. In both cases of non German militaria items you were fooled. A lesson to everyone. Fakes are getting better out there where even a trained eye can be hoodwinked.

Hi Tom - Steve 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Wales - with your beautiful Japanese piece, have you removed the blade from the handle?
There you will usually find makers inscription and all the information about the blade? You probably already know but I’d love to see what you’ve got there 👌🏼👍🏼

That sword is marked on the tang, although the name of the maker escapes me at the moment. From what I remember the smith was of no particular fame, but the sword is quite lovely nonetheless. I asked Tom but he doesn't recall it either, so I suppose I'll have to dig out the papers on it.

      Hi Guys
It’s 17:06 here in Cardiff bay, South Glamorgan, Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
I’m no expert although I have had an obsession with military history from a young age.
Have you removed the handle / tsuka to inspect the entire blade?
My grandfather was on destroyers at first but I think the extra pay attracted him to the Submarines where he spent the majority of Ww2.
I’ve got his medals, prayer book, truncheon and some great photographs if you’re interested in having a look.
I’ve been meaning to research his military history for years now. He moved straight into the RAF post war, very interesting.
He returned with a sword 🗡, I never had a chance to see it unfortunately.
