I need to know what mod Clifford Heath is doing to prevent blowing the amp out from static on the antenna. Waiting to be one of the first with the NEW HackRF H4M like...
Thanks for the review, I love all of the hardware updates which addresses the issues that i try to deal with when using mine, I guess now it's time for a new one
@@TalkingSasquach Watching those as well. Had to figure out how to render the world map for the GPS stuff, but it wasn't too bad. I'm super impressed with this thing so far, it's what I kind of wished the flipper was before I knew much about them.
Does this include the corrected design flaw mentioned by Clifford Heath? I've heard the LNA gets damaged easily. There’s a separate 'Clifford Heath' version on the Open Source SDR Lab site, but I read somewhere that the corrected design is now part of the mainstream version.
So the OG H4M that I have does not have the Clifford Heath features. I'm not sure if OS-SDR has implemented his upgrades but I know he was working on it!
What's the difference between the "Hack RF One PortaPack" and the "Great Scott Gadgets HackRF One (no display, plugs into computer)? The PortaPack is around $130 and the larger one with no display is $350. I'm curious what the difference is? Is there different features?
Did you have trouble charging the unit when you got it? Mine does not want to seem to hold a charge. Did you have to cycle the cells a few times for it to come alive?
Now then mr Squach. I got my hackrf about a month ago, is it worth buying this one and then selling my current one on? (We all know what we’re like, I’d end up keeping both!)
Still no good shielding between RF side and digital parts on the top board, which means all the digital noise will appear in many bands just like in the previous verion.
I have a technical question: Is it possible to setup a HackRF with the Opera Cake and the PortaPack? I wasn't sure if that's possible, but if it is, I wanted to design a 3d printable shell for the hackrf h4m with both the Opera Cake and Porta Pack installed (sandwich style).
The link you have for the SD card does not look the same anymore. There is no splash screen, there are additional folders as well. Did they change the files in the SD card?
Ok, I did some digging and remembered that the guy from Great Scott Gadgets originally created the HackRF One. So it's open source, this is a copy. Looks like it works well, there's a few people vouching for it. However it is also possible to get the portapack H4M addon for $65 and use it with the original HackRF One. Going by the cheapest pricing I could get from links in Europe that are referenced from Great Scott Gadgets, the whole shibang incl. original HackRF One and a cheap antenna would cost about €330.
I would love to see a tutorial on what these radios can really capture, and each antenna that can radiate at that frequency. Theres HF, VHF and UHF, but I'm not clear about any frequencies above 1 gigahertz. I'm always wary of receivers that offer up a ton of bandwidth. Usually the rejection is terrible and the radios are overloaded up front.
Bought mine around 5 days ago, still waiting for it to come in, they just got back to me today and told me it will be around 7 days until they ship it out... will update!
yes how simple would it be to make the hackrf turn on by double push and off by one push. You have to be a special kind of ""sleepy"" to do that the other way around (as it is now) push twice within a certain time in your back pack is most unlikely.
Wouldn't recommend TXing on a baofeng without an attenuator hooked up to the connector for a couple of reasons: 1) It has pretty high output power, unless newer ones allow for some kind of limitation. May not be legal without a licence. 2) It has pretty high output power which is being fed (almost) direct into a hackRF, which is pretty delicate.
you need to stomp on a pretty wide band to jam 2.4 and 5g , you are not doing it with a HackRF. You might cause some disruptions but not a full out jam.
The H4M isn’t using the Clifford that’s why it would be dangerous to transmit that close, BUT my understanding is Clifford is making a revised version early 2025
Can you do a tutorial on how to use the foxhunt app?, and how to add your own detailed city maps?, or are there custom apps to download? Man, there are alot of existing things to do with this device, and i like it!!🔥🔥
@@post_historic Clifford Heath version is the one with protection against frying the amp via the antenna port at a loss of rec power. The other versions do not have this. Even so the Clifford Heath version is not immune and if you transmit that close to ANY radio equipment you run the risk of frying the receiving device. Take a Ham license course or something and learn a bit. It can be helpful.
@@post_historic there is quite a bit to learn about all the different versions and just the unit itself. The Mayhem Discord and the Mayhem github and wiki have tons of great info.
"use it as a walkie-talkie"..When you have to open one app to receive audio, close that and open a different app to transmit audio. No, you can't use it as a walkie-talkie since 2 walkie-talkies cost $140 less and you can listen and talk without switching modes.
Living next to an airport is no deterrent for you...just as long as you aren't transmitting on frequencies you shouldn't, such as aero, ACARS, or ADS-B. Now depending on just how close you are to what type of airport, you might be limited/restricted for antenna towers.
@@W8RIT1 it’s the GPS thing that would have my door on the floor and me sitting next to Diddy and I want to stay as far from Diddy as Bieber wishes he could have

Glad I held off buying a RF H2, getting the HackRF H4m straight off the bat can't wait to play with it and see its incredible capabilities

I would wait, until there is some shielding
H4M v2 coming 2025 allegedly, hopefully with rf shielding
Great, available as H4 Portapack without Hackrf for those who already have a complete H2/H2+, thanks ordered one

Not only did you miss the point of it slowly draining while “off”, but you also made yourself sound like a total d bag
Try having a conversation while running between send and receive apps lol. Mayham still does not have a single app for 2-way voice/audio.
