Jack confirmed a suspected bird now, too. Along with Spencer. Jacob you’re surrounded by birds! 34:05 as someone that simulated a solo D&D scenario and rolled 3 1s on damage on 3 attacks….yeah.
Shortest session for me was 20 minutes: we had an adventure we needed to playtest for a convention but there was a movie we wanted to watch, so we ripped through the module like a chainsaw, piled into two cars, and tore ass to the theater, barely making the screening.
28:59 I was thinking of that video from the start, and thought about that kind of destroying the "illusion" of how the assortment of sauces fits together. But fair play for the predictive callout from you Jacob xD Love your stuff
My regular weekly game is noon to 8pm (and I provide dinner - usually something like Jambalaya with shrimp and sausage or something in the slow cooker, like pork roast ). Longest: 3 days with breaks for sleep and stuff, but all we did was game when everyone was awake. Shortest: 1 hour, including character creation. DM was always coming up with new ideas and could not focus on the current one.
54:59 I would say the longest D&D game I played in was 6 hours. In the campaign I was playing in, we started at 3:30 p.m. and went until 9:30 p.m.. everybody was starting to get tired around the 7 pm mark. We did this for almost 2 years. Nowadays, we do 3:30 to 8:30. I agree with Pepper that 4 hours is good. I do like that extra hour to squeeze anything else in and wrap up the session.
to echo the first "question" Jack is probably my favourite GM from any live play I've watched. edit: also on Jack's thing about why he likes MKM, Guildmaster's Guide to Ravnica provides narrative inspiration for why members of different guilds might work together. And on Spencer wanting a campaign in Innistrad, same but also that's kinda just Ravenloft. That said, a Domain of Dread with Avacyn as its dreadlord would be fucking awesome.
Super fun as always! My hot take: New Counterspell is better because it is no longer a must-pick. That's why everyone is mad at the nerf, it was too powerful.
The one thing that I see when it comes to the counter spell and the design of these new monsters is that they do not necessarily have spell slots just that they can cast a spell x amount of times per day instead of spell slots. I am unsure of this interpretation as you would think casters would also have spell slots but they have the same system as other monsters. So monsters wouldn’t have a spell slot restored as there was no spell slot in the first place. Only players have definitive spell slots which then would be restored through the use of counterspell on them. I will admit this could definitely be an exploitative view point but I mean I don’t see them use actual spell slots in monsters and counterspell specifically calls out spell slots. It is an odd interaction so I think it definitely needs to be clarified.
I think i would love playing a long session except for the fact that I start getting a migraine after about 2 hours... My brain gets so locked in it starts hurting lmao
11:02 From my experience, even 5e is not ideal for getting new players into TTRPGs. Most of my players were complete newbies to the genre so the rules itself is getting in their way to fully RP and get creative. 5e's rules come in multiple layers: D20 Tests, combat and abilities. D20 Tests are fine, but combat and abilities becomes too much when they're still learning how to RP and roll d20s for its consequences.
Other systems are great but sometimes I choose a system because I know it well enough to modify it. 5e is in that sweet spot of enough and not to much crunch. Other systems I would recommend. Dark Heresy and others (warhammer 40k) Traveller (interesting character creation system.) Maid for silly one shots but it's my cringeist recommendation. Rolling lota of dice in wargames is fun. You represent a shed load of dice. Usually, it's one to three die.
Planes I wanna play/run in? Ixalan A thousand times Ixalan I wanna play a Malamet with a macahuitl and I wanna fight Aclazotz I want a gnome friend and a dinosaur steed and I want to form an uneasy partnership with pirates in a plan to dunk the bat into the ocean where my merfolk buddies are waiting But we do it too late and the star goes out, so we're forced into an epic fight vs a mythic phase of Aclazotz, where Vito and his buddies are coming in to back him up
35:35 I'm not sure if he's using hand sanitizer to try and cleanse the spicy on his fingers but that's not gonna do it. Only a thorough scrubbing under running water, unless that's some other kind of solution
Jacob, I love your content, but I am disappointed at your tiny little wimp bites… In any case, if you do this again, you should invest in those plastic gloves that Koreans use to eat wings.
When is Arcane Arcade gonna buy XpToLevel3
3:25 rare arcane arcade pepper sighting
You don’t watch the campaigns do you
My high school had a band chamber concert tonight, and perc was introduced as “the fastest hands in ‘our city’ “

Pepper: I like this thing
Jacob: on second thought...💭

Jacob cleaned up good for this! Lookin' sharp!
We have used counterspell is always a contested roll, each target adds their spellcasting mod and adds the level at which the spell was cast.
Emma is a fucking Champ!!
30:10 ok you singing Crush 40 made me spit take. Love those Sonic Songs!
5:14 made me so happy
I don't know if this is common but apparently chips or bread help to absorb the layers found in hot sauces that coat your mouth and tongue.😊
Also when you all gonna have a Karaoke Podcast or Live Stream. Would love to see you and Jack sing Descend either as the mid point or finale song.
40:15 a phyrexian invasion campaign sounds like a fun one to do
18:19 pain begins here 🌶️🔥🔥🔥

Murders at Markov Manor is the hot take.

Emma looks like a character from a famous Mexican TV show called "El chavo del 8", the character is called "Chilindrina"
Oh my gods I cannot unsee it now!!!
