Yep I definitely reckon you could mate, but then it may limit how much bedding you could fit in there when you close it. Might have to take your doona/sleeping bag out. Or it might all squish down together 😂
I've been looking for reviews of the FSR Odyssey tent and this popped up in my recommended. It's the exact same tent, just different fabric. Thank you for actually showing the inside. I haven't found many reviews that showed much of the inside at all and this is the first I've seen that talks about the back not being connected to the shell.
Nice review Tyler. I've been looking at these closely for a while now and they seem to tick a lot of boxes, low profile, light and not crazy expensive! And you even answered one of my questions - it would sleep 2 in the 1.2 wide model 😁👌👍 definitely do an updated review in 6 or 12 months so we can see how you're going with it mate 👍
Mines a Trekking Oasis 5.2 stretcher roof tent. It only weighs 17kgs. I've been using it for over 10 years and it's on my off road trailer now. Bugger the ladder as well, I crawl in over the tool box. They're better than swags in many ways. My trailer is very light and easy to handle. It makes an excellent base camp.
Really liked your video mate, a no bullshit no frills look at a rooftop tent, 100% getting one of these units. Someone finally made a great design, I see Driffter is fitting a two piece hard ply floor into these now with a modified Aussie made mattress for the people whom need a softer bed set up. Will be watching to see how it pans out over the coming months. Cheers.
Great review Tyler. The beginning was hilarious. I almost purchased this model. Came close, very close. Ended up going with the iKamper Mini. Yes, its more expensive but takes up less roof space, same weight and the ladder folds up into the tent. For the price, the Wildland is great. If I had a bigger car, would have harder to chose.
Hello, thanks for the video, I bought a store and I have a question, where do you put the ladder when you are upstairs, because if you leave it on, they can steal it from you, right? All the best
How do you go for being over weight on your roof. Roofs can only usually carry about 70 kg total. So if you weigh about 90 kg plus your tent at 54 kg you are potentially over weight by about 70 kg. If it’s a new Ute, you will void your warranty if you do damage.
Wouldn't it be better if you remove the pioneer tray and have the tent attached to the cross bar that the tray would have been mounted to? This would also make the tent sit much lower on the roof.
@@TheSillybeenbag There are 2 cross bars that hold the Pioneer tray. I'm thinking that the tent could be mounted directly to these for a cleaner install.
Yeah im not 100% sure, you could possibly do that except then you can't take the tent off to use your platform for something without having to reassemble it all. The tent is a 5 min job to get on or off, but obviously a lot longer if you're assembling platform which I still want to be able to use at times
@@TylerThompson90 I guess it depends on your use case. If you are going to be constantly taking the tent off then yeah, leave it there. If it's going to be a 'permanent' install then you could mount the tent directly to the 2 rhino bars and move the tray on top of the tent where you have 2 bars to mount it on.
How has it effected the handling of the Navara while off-roading? Don't care about wind noise or fuel economy. That is the only thing holding me back. Don't want to spend a ton of money making my vehicle more capable off-road if the added weight of the tent ruins the handling. Most of the reviews of other roof top tents on RUclips seem to be more focused on overlanding rather than hitting hard trails like you do so they never mention the effects on handling. Would be great to hear your feedback.
@@TylerThompson90 Great to hear. Looks like I might pull the trigger on a rtt. This Drifta one seems super light and way cheaper than a James Baroud. Cheers mate!
Not bad although I’d still pay double and get a fibreglass tent with proper insulation and mattress, and that does not get so wet when it rains, and good quality fabric and zips etc, made in Italy like the Autohome ones and know it’ll last 40 years. Great review. Thanks
Looks like a semi decent tent. My only worry with this, if its raining or has been raining, wont the bedding get soaked during pack up. Enjoy the new camping solution.
@@joelackner4172 possibly. Not sure where the air will escape too when closing, be like a giant balloon. Ill need to see more of this tent before i make any definitive judgement asto get one or not.
Have had it in the rain/snow for 2 nights and opened it back up for the 2nd night and was still dry as. When it opened back up at home after the two days in the rain/snow there was a little bit of moisture in there but was minimal
Another good watch Tyler. One question mate. This video is listed as new (todays date 13/9/2020)....most of the comments are from 3 to 5 hours ago, but a couple are from a MONTH ago ? Not that it matters, I'm just curious though. I look forward to your next trip, but I suppose you would be enjoying the break. I got the front of my new LTZ lifted just recently. Made a hell of a difference.

Watched your videos and pulled the trigger on a Navara. Good times. One question; Love the RTT, keen to set ours up the same. However, the Nav max roof load is 100kg, with Rhino rack (40Kg) and RTT youre at capacity (on road), imagine off road would be worse. Have you noticed any issues with the roof integrity, the riveted roof rack points etc.? Are you not concerned about this? Thanks
Awesome, hope you enjoy it! I've never noticed any problems. Seems all good to me. Are you sure the rhino rack is 40kgs? I remember handling it and thought it was pretty light 🤔
Yeah the end of the floors are open once you open it up, like between the hard shell and the material so that water can run down off the tent and not get caught. It has rubber seals that squish together when you shut it to stop water and dust.
Great. when I saw your fingers poke out the bottom I figured what's the point of sealing the top of the tent if it will come from below. As you probably know there are not many places that dust doesn't get. You getting on ok with it so far? Any little changes you would make after using it for a while?
@@scotthughes9136 Yeah I haven't personally put it through much dust yet so can't comment on that but Kaito did 8000kms up cape York and he said he didn't have any dust issues. Ive had it in the rain and snow and was great. Only change ive made so far is I upgraded the mattress, just found a bit hard when you're spending a few nights on it. So I basically put a thin wooden floor in there over the bars and then a super comfy 100mm mattress over the top and its amazing now haha
This is a concern of mine too. If you hit a dirt track dust HAS to get up from the bottom and in between the tent and shell. There's nothing stopping it. If you forget and leave your windows open, it's all in your bedding. It's the only thing I need a clear answer on before I pull the trigger. I think the rubber "seals" are more to stop the two halves rubbing together than to prevent water and dust ingress.
