  • With its origins in Jamaica, Rastafari is a way of life for a lot of people all around the globe. Today, we try to understand it a bit better.
Black/Current is a space to provide both educational and entertaining content primarily by or about Black people. That’s Black Brits, Black Americans, Black Africans, Black Canadians, Black Australians and so forth. There is a really loud desire for diverse voices and stories and we want to be a part of that conversation.

Blessings and love to this man for helping the world to see the love of Rastafari. Give thanks for taking the time to make this little film and for presenting Rasta without a negative connotation or preconceived judgement. The world could use more open minded people and the message of Rastafari to enter into those open minds. One love, one aim, one destiny, blessed love ❤️💛💚

This presentation left out other important factions of Rasta, some of which revere Emperor Haile Selassie I as God Himself and others that reject the Bible completely.
Nevertheless I respect your work and give thanks that it is helping grow widespread awareness and respect for RasTafari.
    Rasta is the Future.

I'm glad that he did this episode on Rastas. The reason is because I'm of Jamaican heritage and the food and music I saw is something my family eats and listens. I'm not rasta but I believe in the ideology of Jesus being black. One thing I should correct is that the word Jah Is short for jahovah another title for YHWH the God of the Bible in Hebrew.

You also left out the effects of colonialism and trans-Atlantic slave trade on the African descendants who intuited and started RasTafari and the driving importance of Marcus Garvey and the Repatriation to Africa movement in Rasta.

I injoy all Rastafarian knowledge but just want to make a point being a vegetarian only one sect of being a Rastafarian as is the Bible quotes
Their are Rastafarians of nature that do eat meat and dont read into any Bible study again same Rastafarian knowledge but used or interpreted different
Im a Rasta from the West and we live of the land rife horses some grow dreads and listen to music injoy one day and night at a time
My point being their are many Rastas but have slightly different interest like the same people ad one with the universes complete but different tribes of ( Rasta )

I mean no disrespect. But, Jesus Christ is a Jew. His mother is a Jew. His earthly father Joseph, was a Jew. That's what the Word says. True Christians will not say He is white. They will say what the Word says, He is Jewish. God is everything, everywhere. God created us in His image. Also, in the book of Revelations, it says: Revelation 1:15
“And His feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and His voice as the sound of many waters.”
Brass, when heated very very hot, turns a shining white. That's not speaking about His race, its talking about His glory, The light that is emanating from Him, His glory, His righteousness. I do not care what race He is, what skin His color is. But I do care that the Word says He is a Jew. Again, I mean no disrespect. And one more thing. I saw a comment from someone talking down about white people being in this religion. Saying they aren't true "Rasta". Thank God the God I serve, the God of the Holy Bible, the literal Word, does not discriminate and calls me His child.

Yeshua / Yahusha was/is Yahudi from tribe Yahuda of the line of Shem. Brown eye and brown skin are dominant gene and original pigment. Even science is in line with this. The term "jew" was created recently in history. It refers to converted khazars. Also, "the middle east" was created at the building of the suez canal by the "west", before that it was just another part of so-called Africa/Ethiopia.
Yes, color shouldn't matter but, history has been whitewashed by the colonizers. So the colonized are speaking up as they wake up .
      Peace and blessings

As a Black male, I can only say: seriously, mental health issues are currently out of proportion on this planet! We live in a world were it is taboo to address these “cosplay pot smoking religious hijack” movements that somehow gives my people some sort of fake identity! Somehow a bit sad…! My people don’t want to learn and mostly pretend they know better nor need to learn from others! Hope my honest opinion will not be deleted. If you are a good psychotherapist, you should be able to see the deep psychic healing to the descendents of the African Slavery that awareness and acknowledgement of His Imperial Majesty and Rastafari livity brings. No therapist could have created a better modality to address our plight. It is a revelation from the universe, from the Almighty if you will... not cosplay, man 😅 if anything, those Black people who are still caught up in the western civilization mindset, the colonial mindset, are truly cosplaying 😂😂

This offshoot was always favourited by the left as it is sadly enough also a way to keep people non active when it comes to progress. For some it’s a way of living, for some part of their personality/ mental disorders and for some it’s just for fun or belonging to a group.
Most of the first Rastas who went back to Africa did not have any skills, were uneducated pot smokers and hijacking’s the Christian religion and were seen as crazies by the local Ethiopian population. They were not Salaisie minded as he ate lobster and salmon while they were poor. Marcus Garvey would turn in his grave seeing that his philosophy has become a group of long haired slow progressive pot smoking lazies who even don’t understand that ganja was brought by Indian labour workers to Jamaica and not slaves from Africa. From an ex Rasta.

@@magi4291 thank you for your reply. First of all many of these so called rastas don’t even know who Marcus Garvey really was, they aren’t even aware that he had meetings with the KKK as he hated light skin or biracial black people. My folks met him several times and were always shocked by his hatred against light skin Afro people. About Selassie, the people got rid of him as he ate salmon and caviar while the population had nothing to eat! It is a delusion and an easy way to hijack other peoples religion. When he arrived in Jamaica it took several hours to. Get him out of the airplane as he was. Scared and a bit overwhelmed by the crowd on the landing strip. The left has always stimulated such movements as it was their way to keep minorities in control and get their votes! Also the urge to smoke and keep living in a delusion makes many turn a blind eye to reality.
