      To be honest, I am very sad that the Raise 2 which should be more on the entry-level side supports the trackball add-on while the defy does not. I do think that the Defy would be better suited for me but for programming, I would really like to get rid of the mouse and just use the add-on which seems not possible, therefore forcing me towards the raise 2. Are there any plans or known good options for having something like the trackball add-on for the Defy?

  • @DillonMark

    Gotta say it's a bit painful to see the raise 2 announcement with pogo pins before the Kickstarter defy even gets delivered. As i saw the lack of ability to do a trackball addon being the biggest lacking feature of the defy back when it was announced.
    I'd love it if you guys can figure out a way to bring some kind of support like that to the defy even if it takes us doing some weird magnet/clamp/attachment to the screw holes to get a trackball attached to the defy.

    • @RandomTrash-ey5di
      @RandomTrash-ey5di Год назад +6

      Yeah to be honest I'll be returning my Defy. I already have a Raise 1, and the whole draw of the defy was the additional functionality from the larger thumb cluster and the wireless. If the raise 2 is going to have that all that as optional add ons (With a trackpad!) that's going to be huge. Imagine not having to move your hand from keyboard to mouse while editing code. The wait for the raise 2 begins lmao...

    I've used MS natural keyboards for years, never a true split. I researched for a month watching every video I could find, printed out 1:1 layouts of the Moonlander and Defy, and setup key maps on Basecor and oryx. I tested layouts on the printouts and only had to make a few changes when my keyboard arrived. I've been using my Defy for a little over a week. I love it and so glad I just made the jump to staggered columnar. I'm getting close to being as productive as I was on those cheap ergo light staggered keyboards and now don't have to rearrange my desk to use my Wacom. The Defy is tented to 25 degrees shoulder width apart with my wacom in the middle and mouse to the right. All in easy reach and no huge compromises due to a giant keyboard taking up space. With the programmability I also ditched my Logitech M13 I used for graphics short cuts.

    I 100% agree with the recommendation. I have the Raise 1 and now the Defy as well. The adjustment period from a regular keyboard to the Raise was pretty quick, if you are okay/ familiar with touch typing. The jump from the Raise to the Defy is a huge step and even after a few weeks, I still reach for keys, that are in a different place. If you are not proficient with touch typing, do NOT get the Defy.....

    I use a Trackman Marble, as its location on my desk is static and predictable. So the ability to attach a trackball to this keyboard got my attention. It would be nice to preorder the trackball attachment with the keyboard. The entire concept of the Raise 2 is solid in my mind, but I'm not sure about the thumb keys. A traditional MS keyboard technically has three positions for the thumbs: below N & B, below M & V, and the stretch below comma and C; whereas, this keyboard seems to only have two thumb keys and two "vertical" stretch thumb keys, which seems a bit unnatural. Great video.

    • @DygmaLab
      @DygmaLab  2 месяца назад

      The Raise 2 has 8 thumbkeys, 4 in each half, and the Defy has 16. About the trackball, we are still designing more add-ons, so we'll know more about them in the future!

    I'm having such a hard time deciding which one I should get! I currently use a full sized Cloud 9 ergo keyboard, but it's key press delays are driving me nuts! I like the idea of the Defy and would definitely be more comfortable hand movement wide, but the Raise is more in my comfort zone based on my experience with typing.
    My biggest concern with both is trying to remember where I program the numbers considering they don't have a number Pad. What do I do! The Defy would definitely have more on an adjustment period where as Raise would be more seamless, but I'm torn between the two. Me want the Defy, but the Raise seems more practical. Darn norms!
    Help me Dygma God's!

    • @DygmaLab
      @DygmaLab  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hi there! When it comes to choosing between split keyboards, it really depends on whether or not you're already used to using them. However, since you mentioned that you are already using one, you may want to consider taking the next step in your ergonomic journey by trying a columnar split keyboard. But if you're not quite ready for that, then the Raise 2 would be a great option for you! As for remembering the different keys and layers, you could try using lights to help you remember where everything is. For example, if you tend to forget where the arrow keys are on the second layer, you could try using orange lights on those keys to help you remember. With time, you'll become so used to it that you won't even have to think about it anymore! So my advice would be to start with lights and then work your way towards memorizing the different layers 💪

    6:37 Could you make a video about compatibility with a track ball and others please, by the way I saw in another brand that they can praise this kind of keyboards to an ergonomic chair it would be incredible that they could do that, greetings.

    • @DygmaLab
      @DygmaLab  16 дней назад

      The trackball is gonna be a module designed by us, it's not gonna be compatible with third party trackballs. And as for having the keyboard attached to the chair; you can already do that. There are 4 screw holes on the base that you can use for a tripod adaptor. You need to buy that (look for tenting puck online), but it's usually pretty cheap.

    Why do the two models disagree on which hand is responsible for the number row 6 key? 🤔

    • @DygmaLab
      @DygmaLab  2 месяца назад

      That's a great question. On a columnar keyboard like the Defy, the 6 "has" to be on the right side, on top of the Y, because that's the column it belongs to on a normal staggered keyboard too. On the Raise, however, we put it in the left side because, even though technically you should type it with your right hand, it's closer to reach for the left hand (due to the staggering of the keys). We made a whole video about it in case you want to check it out ruclips.net/video/3dBnU2SGfzc/видео.html

    Hi, I am watching this video for the 3rd time now 😅 and I am soooooo glad I choose the Defy. I have it for almost a month now and I feel so comfortable writing on it. Its like it was match made in heaven 🙂. I have never had a split keyboard before, let alone an ortholinear one and the typing seems so easy. It took me like a 10 days to get use to. The only advantage I had over the learning curve was that I was already touch typing before. The other day I was trying to type on my old staggered keyboard just for fun, boy it was difficult, it was Iike how did I type on this thing...😄 Sooo if I had to choose all over again it would definitely be the one and only Defyyyyyy......

      @@DygmaLab well... I made my own layouts before the keyboard arrived, so I knew them by heart. So when it arrived I immediately flashed the keyboard FW and my layouts. Also I took vacation for 10 days so I don't get interrupted for work and I practiced each and every day on these 'learn how to touch type sites' 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour before dinner, or sometimes I'd skip the morning session and do 2 hours in the evening. I am on the Raise 1 which I am transporting to the office and home each time, but I am using laptop keyboard pretty often as well. And I also waiting for the Defy to arrive. So.... how much of a struggle is it to switch between Defy and Macbook keyboard? I am kinda lost right now.. Is it better to not even unpack the Defy and sell it as new and get the Raise 2 just to get rid of wires? How much of a step up the Defy really is? Argh... this is tough decision indeed. By the way, I'd go with the digging - easier to find private place and stay unseen ahahahahaha

    • @DygmaLab

      Like most things in life, it depends! One of my colleagues isn't a touch typist and was able to learn how to more easily with the Defy since he was forced to split and get used to placement, he now struggles going back to a standard keyboard.
      However, I've been touch typing for almost 20 years and jumping over to the Defy had a learning curve but it wasn't terrible and I felt like I was back to my flow by week 3-4, but going back to a standard keyboard is no problem for me since I've had that layout memorized for such a long time. What I miss the most is always my superkeys!
      Digging, a deep enough hole, is not a one person job 😅
