I'm glad you enjoyed it! So really it depends on how much you're willing to practice. I would say to practice at least 30 minutes per day if you want to see good progress, and within say, 3-4 months you should be able to play pretty well. As far as "advanced" goes, maybe a year or so? But "advanced" is a tricky word. I look at other players and think "Wow, they're really advanced. How am I going to get that good?" while others might think that about me. So don't worry about reaching any certain level. Just enjoy the process and challenge yourself as much as you can!
So I actually have tabs on my patreon for a lot of the songs I've done, but I pretty much figure out the melody, the chords that go underneath, and then mess around with the rhythm until I get it to fit with clawhammer structure. I'll start posting tutorial videos on my patreon as well soon!
Dude your arrangements are incredible. Your chord choices are very beautiful. How many students are you currently teaching? I’d love to see your arrangement and cover of Drunk Dial (with Post Malone) by Noah Kahan!
I don't know if you remember me, but I'm jasmine, who was a student in the analytical writing class when you were a teacher at TNL ! Also you are so good at playing banjo !
Legitimately the only video I've ever clicked the loop option for
Glad to take up as much of your time as I can!
I don’t know the song, so I almost skipped the video… but that is some seriously fine banjo pickin’!
Glad you didn't skip!
That was awesome!
Thanks!
This needs more views
This is badass
Thanks!
Rock it 🔥🔥
Loved this. How long in your opinion would it take to get to an advanced level of playing, starting from scratch?

How do you go about practicing these modern songs? I can’t find tutorials and I’m not sure how to work them out
