"Are you coming to the show tonight Peter?" "Yeah, I'll probably come, although I've seen it all before.....its a little rubbish" That was worth listening to this.
Yes they write music and then the instrumentation largely serves the song, but the song builds up to a point that is instrumentally focused, because of the complexity of how the music plays out. So the genius of the band is that they write songs that are instrumentally oriented which has impressive playing rather than the usual model of a bunch of hot shots showing off. The benefit of that is that the overall is greater than the sum of the parts. Yes does this, but they are more oriented towards amazing playing simply because they can play great, whereas Genesis sees their strong suit as being able to write impressive instrumental pieces and then play them out, so it's not necessary to be as great of players as Genesis to get the same result. I think I should add that Phil Collins was very instrumentally strong, and did show off his chops. And they became very strong players over time, so it's very similar to Yes except by the time they could play as well as Yes they were a three-piece and had shortened the arrangements, but maybe the cross point where Genesis meets Yes is the Wind and Wuthering album where they are playing amazing while doing some highly complex music. Yes was also very dependent on visuals of the stage show where Genesis probably having a lower budget used costumes to have the visual part. So it seems to me that Prog Rock is a form of Glam Rock in the sense that almost every Prog. Rock bands had some kind of visual show to go along with the music. That's a very strong distinction from Blues Rock, and even some Arena rock bands where the light show is not as over the top. Supertramp refused to be an opening act because the visuals were so important to the band.
the first comment is total rubbish.....Wakeman and Banks couldn't be more different keyboardists....Banks had the essential requisites of humility and decorum....whereas Wakeman was all about ability.
Damn, Gabriel's voice is music to my ears, even when it's just dialog. Great timbre
I thought the same thing; there's so much kindness and intelligence in it. Just love him.

Both are very Classically influenced. I think that is the point being made. Both are GREAT!
Great interview with a bunch of unseen photos. Very nice insight into their creative process.
The interviewer talks too much and interrupts- annoying.
The interviewer is horrible ,maybe a college kid?
accidenti che impreparazione ha l'intervistatore. Io manco gli avrei risposto co le cazzate che domanda e poi non lo lascia quasi parlare.
I wonder if anyone can decode the cabitch and potato "nonsense". dont think so. not that I could.
This interviewer is awful
