Asked you about this save in on of your earlier videos, since im feeling stiff and am struggling with it atm. Very happy and thankful you made this video. Thumbs up!
One thing I wish you covered was recovery from the completed split save. Compared to the blocking shape it requires a lot more commitment, and is harder to reset from.
That's a really good point! I think I'll do a specific video on that in the near future. It's a key part of Futsal with so much action so quickly. Keep an eye out on my channel for it. :)
incrível, sou brasileiro e atuo com o goleiro de futsal, até então não tinha visto nenhum treinamento tão explicado feito o seu. Parabéns pelo trabalho, vou colocar em prática o que vi em seus vídeos.
Thanks, I play GK in normal football but this actually helps a lot because when I do a foot save it goes through my legs sometimes so this helped me stop getting megged
monday night we had a big game versing 2nd place, we're 6th. We had a big lead but ended up a draw. At one point I did a nice leg save and I always owe it to DH, esp the stretches! @ 33 yo, stretches are the most important thing!
Could you make a video of what order things should happen when making a split save, ex. Knees bend then kick foot out make sure to keep it as straight as you can. Would be great if I could see this before next weekend when I go to compete for The US national team
I watch this video one day before my futsal game, i practice the move that u told us in this video and i won the game, thx alot, keep up the good video!
YOUR CHANNEL IS THE BEST!!! Thanks David for this tutorial and all others.Your tutorials made me very good at futsal. Now,I am playing for my club in Bosnia and we are first on table and tomorrow we play final, wish me luck!!!! P.S. sorry for my english haha and i'm 12
I find your videos highly informative, keep up the good work! One thing: if you could make sure to have some light on you from behind the camera or avoid wearing black clothes that would sometimes make it easier to see certain aspects of movements or body positioning. (Not because of this video in particular but something I noticed in general.)
Thank you again, and VERY good point, unfortunately my production value is relatively low and something I do need to work on. Thank you for the advice and I'll continue to improve and invest in this for future videos.
Awesome video mate! I started playing keeper about a year and a half ago and have used a lot of your videos and tips to get better. The split save is something I really want to get down. I love the ideas you suggest for stretching and getting the muscle memory there in this video! My question is could you tell me or demonstrate the best times in a game to use the split save? In other videos, I have seen keepers use it when there is a cross or a very close shot. I am wondering if it would be good for any time that isn't a lateral move (like coming forward) or if i should stick to using it for lateral moves, close and low shots? Thanks man!
I know I'm late to this video but I've started playing in net for a five aside team won our first match last night and I'm wanting to learn this technique how long do you hold these stretches for and also how often would you do them
Hey Rezza, That'd be a fantastic tutorial - I will try and get that done this month for you, make sure you subscribe and I'll try to reply again once it's up! :)
Great video, keep up the good work, have just returned to keeping after a long absence, now playing walking football, I'll leave the futsal to the younger, fitter lads lol. I do have a weakness tho when the shit is straight at me on the ground it keeps going thro my legs....please any advice will be welcomed
i use split save for so many times, and now i think i hurt my left knee though i always use knee guard. I start to feel pain in my left knee when i run and the pain stops right after i walk normally. do you have the same experience? if you do, would you please tell me how you handle it, thank you. (sorry for my bad english)
and I'm training a split save and I'm not flexible as need , but I tried to do this and after split save I'm always getting on the back. So if I will be flexible as need I will manage to stay in a vertical (normal) position?
Hello, thank u for your advice and could u teach us strategies for goalkeepers, for example: what to do when 2 forwards( or wingers i dont know the name) are attacking and there is no defenders, only me goalkeeper?
That would actually make for a good video, however I can offer some advice - always concentrate on the immediate danger. That's ALWAYS the man with the ball. He's the one that you have to stop - so concentrate on ensuring he can't score. IF he chooses to pass there's a chance he may misplace the pass, or it will be slow enough to enable your defenders to get back. So make it difficult for the immediate striker to score - if he passes (then that's your job done mostly), if it's a good pass they'll most likely score (you can't do much about that). Also, if they pass there's a real chance to make the HERO save, throw yourself back across the goal in the direction the pass has been made and if you save that - it'd look amazing ;)
I’ve only recently become a keeper due to a knee injury. And that’s playing 6 a side, not futsal though. In 2 on 1 situations, i tell my defender to go to the guy without the ball, coz I’ve got more chance of saving 1 on 1 than leaving the other attacker wide open to knock the pass in. That’s my theory, at least, but so far it hasn’t worked. :-/
@@cavannaro1 this is one way. The other is to let defender play with the guy who has the ball and continue controlling the shot. In 9 of 10 situations he won't shoot, but will do the pass and you should be prepared. The moment the pass goes you run into that 2nd player to do block or split save. The secret is to use the time while the pass goes to close the gap between you and 2nd striker. I'm quite an amateur, but it helps at least on my level.
I have made a video on this, check it out: ruclips.net/video/YB1R8RrHffo/видео.html I prefer using gloves as it helps me feel confident and it gives me that extra grip to hold the ball.
How long should you hold the stretch and how often should you do it? I done one of the stretches and I felt a lot of strain and I was put off by this, is that normal?
Hey ya Konrad, it's normal to feel strain when you're increasing your flexibility and testing your muscles - it's good up until a point, as a rule it's good when you can feel thee stretch and maybe just a bit past that but as soon as it hurts.. then stop it there. Be careful it's not too much strain though as you might damage your muscles. If it hurts maybe you're doing a bit too much a bit too quickly. Keep working on your stretches, and try to hold them for 30 seconds. It takes time and practice, but if you can keep doing it you'll get a little bit more flexible each day - keep it up.
Hey ya, maybe... I can't be sure without seeing your technique but it shouldn't hurt. Is it because it's over stretched - if so, keep building up, patiently and stretch a little bit more each day. That will help you. If it's because you bash it on the floor then you probably need to adjust your technique - try changing the way you stretch your leg out. orrrr, it could be because you need some padding there, I have under Armour padded goalkeeper trousers which has some padding on the bum - that helps me.
While doing the Futsal split save when the keeper sits on his back leg, what kind of position should the back leg be in because other than the stretching foot out wide, the back leg is also on tremendous amount of pressure. Please reply and let me know. Thanks!
Hello, I was wondering if you could help me how to do the last step (split save position), because when I try to get into that position I begin to feel unconfortable or even a little pain, I never actually get into it. Also is it normal if it hurts your ankle when you sit on your leg in this second last step?
Glad I could help, there's plenty more out there on youtube (better than just my basic ones) - have a look for stretching techniques / flexibility for football/futsal :)
All your videos are very helpful I'm a Australian futsal under 12 keeper.it all helps very well with the stretching before a game or training thank you for going out of your time and sharing that it really helps keep making videos I'll keep doing thumbs up and commenting about your brilliantly planed video
Malik Sultan I quite like one on ones. As a keeper no one really expects you to stop it, so if you do, you’re the hero! And they’re easier to stop than penalties coz you can confuse the attacker a bit more.
Hi david love your video coaching from Malaysia 🇲🇾🇲🇾 besides i want to ask you 1 question, do prefer keeper gloves or not in futsal match ? Hope you would answer that xoxo
I'm simply not capable of the split save , poor body mechanics. Is there any alternative? I ship in too many easy goals when they're hit low and hard just out of range of a lunge ( or I mis-coordinate the lunge )
Hey David! I want to ask you for a tip. Since I started being a football goalie(few years ago) it has always been hard to been to dive on my right than on my left. Now that I am playing as a futsal goalie the same problem came with the split save. It just feels unnatural for me to do it on my right(i do it, but it isnt as good as on my left). Do you have any tips on how could I improve it?
I'm the first team futsal goalkeeper in my school but sometimes I make a blunder and mistakes so I lost my place in the first team and now I'm the backup goalkeeper, I hope by watching your video can improve my skills and my mentality to took back my spot! cheers man thanks for the helpful video!
Hey Ivanno, I was second choice goalkeeper for a long time, it was hard at times sitting on the bench but I have worked really and kept trying to improve and tried to learn something at training every session. I kept improving, I found my mistakes were fewer and I eventually got picked as the no.1 by the coach. So keep at it bud, chin up, believe in yourself and keep well!
After i do this every day.... people from my high school called me the guardian... it's all thanks to you man...
Thanks man . I’m playing as a goalkeeper and i feel sometimes that I’m not enough flexible. Now I’m going to learn this
Asked you about this save in on of your earlier videos, since im feeling stiff and am struggling with it atm. Very happy and thankful you made this video. Thumbs up!
I love to be a goalkeeper but I don't have a lot of techniques and I'm watching your videos and getting it, let's do this
Ay how's it going now
One thing I wish you covered was recovery from the completed split save. Compared to the blocking shape it requires a lot more commitment, and is harder to reset from.

Até que enfim, um brasileiro
Thats one of the finest videos on split saves i've come across...thanks for this David

Just learning how to be a GK. This vid accompanied by the stretches to prevent injury and promote better movement for the save is great! Kudos!
Thanks for the video,Great job, I´ve just realize that I have 0 flexibility xD
I did not think that i could get all the way down into a split save but after i tried this i realized that i could
That's very helpful, we're awaiting for more videos!

I'm playing in the futsal nationals on Sunday this advice should help
Awesome. one thing to add, do the stretching until you feel like crying, b4 crying, for gods sake switch!
I play football in the big goals and this is the 1v1 technique which most gks use.I use this as well ofc
Really appreciate this video, subscribed!
You're welcome! Thanks man! :)
I never did the split save a lot when I played futsal... Do you find the more you do it you're less reliant on collapse hand saves?
