  • Did the Southern Army investigate Culp's Hill before attacking it? It is imagined the Southern Army attacked Culp's Hill for two days without knowing what they were walking into, or how impossible the task. It is generally presumed that if some forethought and investigation of the ground and circumstances had been carried out earlier, the 12 hours of combat there may never have occurred. How much truth is there to hastily attacking the hill without prior knowledge of Union strength, location, and morale? Troy Harman will explore and explain through multiple vivid accounts, illustrations, and maps.

Great content, terrible audio. Thanks Addressing Gettysburg for picking up the slack

Yes, Its 2023. There has to be a better audio solution. The other lecture series from previous years have been well done. What happened?

Addressing Gettysburg have absolutely upped your game when it comes to your winter lectures. We can now actually see the screen and the lecturer properly. Thanks for letting them do the 2024 series - you’re all amazing

3 things. Good speaker. But sounds bouncing off the walls . It's hard to see what's on the screen because of the angle.

Enjoyed hearing the presentation. Fills out and adds to the reasoning presented in Troy Harman's book on 'Lee's Real Plan at Gettysburg.' Harman suggests that Lee saw the Union Army of the Potomac (AOP) salient that bent around Cemetery Hill as hinge upon which the AOP position depended, and believed that the Cemetery Hill position could be got at from the east via Culp's Hill or from the west up or across the Emmitsburg Road. Army of Northern Virginia (ANV) efforts directed at that AOP Cemetery Hill salient from the north and northeast had already been nullified by AOP artillery superiority and by the difficulty attendant upon attacking through the town.

As someone who livestreams as well, it's a complicated process & sometimes trial & error is necessary. They acknowledged problem in yesterday's chat & they worked to fix it.
Bet next one will be much better. It's not how you start but how you finish. 👍🙂

Don't know why most of the comments are so negative ? I'm listening with headphones with the volume at max and can hear perfectly, even with music playing in another tab at a lower volume level. And as far as I can remember, the lectures have been recorded from the left side, but from the right side, the projected images are closer and more clear ! Thanks for sharing with us, at least I appreciate it along with 27 others 👍

Even a smartphone on the lectern would have been better. Then overdub that track onto the video. It's always good to have a backup anyway.
