- Music festivals, like most cultural events, were badly affected by the coronavirus pandemic, impacting both the smallest of DIY festivals to behemoths like Glastonbury. And this was no different for the neo-Nazi music scene.
Rechtsrock is a German term for music that acts as a vehicle for far-right ideology.
A key part of this scene are music festivals that act as key networking hubs for neo-Nazi groups across Europe. Festivals in Ukraine, Italy and Greece feature bands from across the Continent, and there’s a strong scene in Germany, which is home to some of the largest neo-Nazi music festivals in recent years.
One of those festivals, held in the German state of Thuringia, drew in an estimated 5,000 neo-Nazis. It was organised by the Turonen, a violent neo-Nazi gang who were recently targeted in a raid by police where large amounts of cash, weapons and crystal meth were found. These festivals can make organisers hundreds of thousands of euros, which are then pumped back into the neo-Nazi underground scene.
From Athens to Milan to Kyiv and beyond, far-right music is a vital cultural weapon for right-wing extremists. And as the far-right music scene looks to make its return after a COVID-induced hiatus - all eyes are on the authorities to find ways of dealing with this dark and twisted subculture.

I agree Celtic crosses are a pretty commonplace icon in Europe similar to how yin-yangs are all over Asia but the Celtic cross has been turned into a white supremacy icon in recent years. Check some footage of Charlottesville riot.
But they are "racist" for they belong to a people, there is a ethinc and racial connection, the people who used the Runes in Europe for instance were not black people, just like black or asian cultural products or elements belongs to them and not to others. They are inherently exclusive by their own nature. Just like if i go and dress like a chinese person, in traditional clothing, it does not make me chinese. There are elements of peoples and of culture that can not be exported and still retian its inherent authenticity and identity.

The Celtic cross, much like the swastika, is a peaceful religious symbol that has been appropriated by Nazis/neo-Nazis. It’s a fairly minor infringement in comparison to their much more serious crimes. Nevertheless I think it’s important to say, they have no right to abuse either symbol. Silver lining though: now those far-right nationalists in Ukraine have a productive avenue to channel their violent impulses. (Which they had in 2014, and the Russian invasions have made neo-Nazi groups like Azov Battalion and Right Sector beloved in Ukraine. Hopefully the war between those two nations will chew through the political extremists rather than give them a halo that they can use to influence policy after hostilities have ended.)
