Good question - but one which is difficult to answer. It depends on the type of concrete used, thickness of the rubber, texture on the surface, etc. These are production molds. Rebound 25 has very high performance characteristics and should provide a lifetime of castings when handled properly..
clearly you did not think before asking this Q. How long do you suppose bamboo will last as a fence? This is concrete, beautiful and different. Unique in its class.
This is really a great project. Could the panels have the colors mixed in, or does coloring after give it a better look? Thank you for uploading this video.
+lmullen56 lol bamboo rotting. Bamboo does not rot at all. Plus this concrete "fake bamboo" is going to be heavy as fuck. it does not have any metal structural support so it will break. I don't want to have to pay out for injuries sustained after someone gets injured after the concrete brakes and falls on someone.
+OnlineBackupServices Then why do all the experts recommend not allowing bamboo structures not touch the ground. Because they rot. ALL LIVING MATTER ROTS once they die, you idiot.
Smooth-On, I'm late to the party; How does it look, standing the sections on end using a single channel support beam, top and bottom? Like that bamboo pattern. -- What is the average workable time with the Rebound25 , example, 1 gal bucket , 1 man, 3 minutes or 5 gal bucket, 2 men, 3 minutes. How many cycles can you get from a Rebound25 mold? Noticed your guys were putting their weight into its separations. Thanks for the vids, super good looking product.
I like the detail and the concrete should outlast a bamboo fence, but I would really like any information on the sound deadening quality of this product. Would it make a good fence along the edge of a subdivision with high vehicle traffic? Truck traffic as well?
+phillip harden It should have a slightly better acoustic deadening quality then a flat GFRC wall/fence of the same thickness as the curves (if they face the sound source) will disrupt the wave pattern as it strikes the surface at different times. This will diffuses acoustic rebound and sympathetic resonance. That's the science bit. I don't know if CFRC has better sound absorbance quality than ordinary concrete, per se, but I suspect the fibres will act like air bubbles and give increase the insulation against heat and acoustic transfer you get with foamed concrete.
+snouty “the snout” snouterson the trouble for me is the guy spraying fiberglass concrete, and fiberglass resins and doesn't even have a MASK on! what's worse is according to the story they cast over 11,000 of these!
Why do you choose to use fiberglass instead of traditional/more alkali resistant reinforcement? It is well documented that fiberglass degrades rapidly in the harsh alkali environment of concrete. I realize that glass is "stiff" but what good will it be when it degrades to 50% or less of its original strength?
Bamboo grow so f-ing quick, is sustainable, and is well know for it's quality and strength.. I'd still use bamboo instead. Concrete end up cracking and sh*t..
Wouldn't the details have been even better if they would have created the grooves in the bamboo first instead of after the pour and scratching like they did? I would like to know how to create the bamboo color. Do you have any information on that or a link you can refer me to, please?
@565Customz You could, you'd just need to make sure you have a very stable support shell. I would recommend checking out our Epoxamite laminating epoxy as well.
Its a good video. I don't think I would have made a fence that way...but the architect and owners were happy. They made it in a labour intensive fashion (employment is a good thing) , and the workers probably should have had better ppe...even a damp bandanna...but thats not the point of the video. This fairly expensive mold did a fine job, and I learned a lot from the video. Thank you.
That may not be the point of the video but it is a telltale sign that the manufacturer has little respect for the health of it's employees. A company so blind that it would proudly and quite publicly show how it endangers the lives of its workers - would you agree to working conditions such as these?
KM HU I DID say they could have used more PPE. Thats Personal Protective Equipment. I have worked in similar conditions, and made sure I had a dust mask at the very least, a respirator at best, and safety boots and glasses. So to your question....sure...providing I was able to somehow get my own PPE. Do you feel that the company is responsible for providing PPE?
KM HU you know I would bet this is in an underdeveloped country somewhere the guys working are probably very happy to be working and could probably care less about ppe. hell their boss may not even know it is needed.
It's sad but very interesting that you think working people in an "underdeveloped country" don't care about the impact of toxins on their long-term health... I guess that means your only concern is for the price of the products sent from the "third" to the "first" world: they must be the cheapest possible, so no unnecessary expenditures like PPEs. After all, as you say, these people are so lucky to be working at all, so what if a few die, plenty more where that labourer came from... What a perverted view!
In fact my attitude about such things is quite different than you seem to think. My comment was observation driven, and not driven by an underlying attitude of indifference to the fact that ppe is needed here. Your assumption that I care nothing about people in third world countries and that my lack of caring is consumer driven is offensive and downright wrong. In fact, the driving factors in which products I purchase have nothing to do with price, and a great deal to do with value. I buy things according to quality standards cheap crap made in third world countries has no interest for me at all. I will pay 5 times the price for something that will last me a lifetime rather than buy five or more of that same thing during my life. By the way have you ever been to a third world country and tried to talk about things like ppe . A vast majority of the time they laugh at you. You see people are going to do what they do. When the big concern you have is where your next meal for your children is going to come from you don't give a rats ass about ppe. If you think otherwise you have never experienced anything like that. Now go make uninformed assumptions about someone else. If you want to do something about this I would suggest buying some ppe for these guys and hopping on a plane and taking it to them they will either thank you of laugh at you. I would bet real money if you did; that two minuets after you leave they sell it for some food and keep on drawing particles into their lungs.
Both sides needn't be so thick - it could just be a cosmetic backing. Anyway, just because the poles aren't made to support another panel doesn't mean new poles can't be designed! :)
very good this idea, the more you have seen a recyclable bob never seen more can see right now is only accesses recyclable bob on youtube and you will see this good idea.
Los felicitó por su arte muy novedoso los felicitó por su vídeo muy intructivo les voy a contactar para ver si empredo con esta interesante técnica constructiva
Enjoyed the craft but maybe cheaper to grow bamboo and use some kind of preservative on it? When the concrete has to be stained - that stain will eventually wear, so not as low maintenance as you'd think. Plus real bamboo will be more resilient to being struck, lighter to transport, safer and less polluting to the environment. As well as looking real.
+V T Stain can be protected with urethane based lacker, but i agree with you, that this is stupid for a wall. Good idea thought for lets say shower wall tiles etc wet application.
just a point on the detail, you guys should check out the Royal Festival Hall in London, close up it has amazing almost microscopic grain detailing all over, and that was built in the 50s.
It's incredible how these workers never wear a mask, even applying fiber glass!, it must be an unavoidable rule in this factory, this is owner's responsibility.
No its not...not in THAT company and likely not in that country! Never assume the nanny state will take care of you...get your own PPE and check that its not some cockamamie Chinese counterfeit. (got counterfeit cartridges for MY mask, and they were filled with toilet tissue! Grin! IF the company was about to get sued for damages to workers lungs, they would find the masks quick enough! But sadly, even where there are laws, who could afford a lawyer? I don't care for such working conditions myself, and would not run a factory that way.
Why is it the owner's responsibility. The employees looked like adults, should we treat them like little children just because they are working for somebody? They are adults, they can buy and wear a mask, quit or do as they are doing. It is their business and responsibility.
I've worked in many high end companies with fiberglass (among other things) and the only time they required PPE is when OCIA was coming to do a "suprise" visit
Great creativity! That said, it was hard to overlook the fact that no precautions were taken to protect these workers from fumes at all ! How could anyone NOT be aware of the deadly hazards ! They're all going to die....
pretty cool process, but you have to be pretty rich to even dream up something like this.. who the heck can afford a fence like this. sOOOOOOO much labor involved!!
If you want promises about strength, & durability look on the label of anything, and believe it. This is a thorough demonstration of the products capability. Careful you might learn something along the way though.
hi i want to make an experement like this so i want a tow barrel a and b of liquid rubber how mutch it cost including shipping to palestenian territory also spray pol -ease 2300 and 2650 release agent
Thanks for watching Alok Kumar. We do not provide moldmaking services, but we do have a list of moldmakers on our website: www.smooth-on.com/moldmaker/
That's a crazy amount of work and time to make a fence. Yes it is a beautiful fence but dang. Maybe a different lighter material could be substituted instead of that concrete. Just my opinion.
What about all of that over spray on everything? Won't that eventually build up to the ceiling of the building and then they would have to move to another building? I think about things like that.
Don't know about that. A vehicle can be driven through environmentally friendly bamboo. Put a bit of rebar inside a product like this and you can have beauty and security.
Thanks for showing entire process, that was really interesting.
Good question - but one which is difficult to answer. It depends on the type of concrete used, thickness of the rubber, texture on the surface, etc. These are production molds. Rebound 25 has very high performance characteristics and should provide a lifetime of castings when handled properly..
Fantastic video. Thanks for showing how this is done. Seems like repeating this 11,000 times would take a good while!
thank you so much guys for posting and sharing your thoughts.
clearly you did not think before asking this Q. How long do you suppose bamboo will last as a fence? This is concrete, beautiful and different. Unique in its class.
great video....But I worried about lack of respirators, really not good when working with glass.
Wow that was great. A fair amount of effort but the result pays off!
At $1 a day labor cost no big deal.
This is really a great project. Could the panels have the colors mixed in, or does coloring after give it a better look? Thank you for uploading this video.
Spraying fiberglas+polyester resine with no masks... bravo!
yes, I noticed that too...
can you sale me some mold?
xemivaigfort jeu
Is concrete morons
Ricky Cruz GFRC - glass fiber reinforced concrete
The concrete castings will not degrade or discolor over time.
Wonder how many cycles those molds can be used...
for some reason this video was captivating.
Good job!
Just a little question: how many times you can use the same mold?
how many pulls can you get from one of the molds pictured in the video? (using the same process shown in the video)
Wow that was incredible. Never seen anything like it. Well done!
With all that labour involved, would it not be much cheaper and much quicker just to put real bamboo fence in?
+DazzaBurns22 And then in 15 to 20 years replace the rotted bamboo fence with another bamboo fence?
+lmullen56 lol bamboo rotting. Bamboo does not rot at all.
Plus this concrete "fake bamboo" is going to be heavy as fuck. it does not have any metal structural support so it will break. I don't want to have to pay out for injuries sustained after someone gets injured after the concrete brakes and falls on someone.

Thanks! Sorry about the late reply. Cycles depends on the mix being cast. Rebound has a 15 minute working time.
Thanks. Looks great.
That was quite impressive. Three miles of fencing made this way. I'll bet that took a good while to prepare all those panels.
Wow🤩 you can install it vertically right?
You could as long as an appropriate support structure was created.
Wow really great idea what is size of post and do you have other video for casting post please
Can you send us a tech ticket? Our team can help you - www.smooth-on.com/support/ticket/add/agree/
Excelent job very profesional i like so much how i can get those fance in my house is hard to find people do good job like this video

This is awesome guys. Great Job! I would build a concrete halflog house with this.
It would cost you about 5 million dollars.
Very informative video. One of the best! Thank you.
the trouble is for me that it looks like a well crafted, painted concrete fence.
+snouty “the snout” snouterson the trouble for me is the guy spraying fiberglass concrete, and fiberglass resins and doesn't even have a MASK on! what's worse is according to the story they cast over 11,000 of these!

Does the mould silicone not stick to the one part silicone between the bamboo pieces
Bamboo grow so f-ing quick, is sustainable, and is well know for it's quality and strength.. I'd still use bamboo instead. Concrete end up cracking and sh*t..
fiberglass on the concrete would prevent cracking, bamboo can crack too
fiberglass is the best

You can tell those guys take pride in their work
Nice concrete fencing! What does a fence panel like that cost?
I want to order 2 hundred and I want it by next year, what are my chances?

Zachary Pike Google has a translate link for your comment...
i think a living bamboo fence would be best...grows very fast and spreads...but must have a special root control trough?
@565Customz You could, you'd just need to make sure you have a very stable support shell.
I would recommend checking out our Epoxamite laminating epoxy as well.

Spraying fibre glass and resin with no mask? Nasty.
very nice. give us full details.
What a great video ... I was edified!
Why is there no respirators being used when spraying the fiberglass?
No use saliya in concrete, can we get readymade rubber design like that if yes where we can purchase
We have a list of moldmakers on our website: www.smooth-on.com/moldmaker/
Very kool! Looks High Quality!
Stunning fence very beautiful😘
This gives me a tone of ideas
This looks excellent
that mould was one well
Why wasn't the SuperSeal applied to the bamboo first?
The bamboo was previously sealed with a water based sealer.
Great work
Thanks for watching, Carina Yang, and don't forget to subscribe for more how-to videos!
Where can I buy a bamboo mold like this? I want to create an oriental garden.
beautiful stuff, very educational!
Doesn't the crete have calcium in it? And wouldn't that have an adverse effect on the silicone after awhile...?
Bravo , l'Artiste un grand merci
some metallic epoxy as a finish and you have a pretty groovy fence. impressive
why make an image of bamboo and then mount them horizontally?
I think this will be perfect for my wall.
Really nice work
Perfect for Disneyland. Anywhere else, not so much.
what??
+Jamie Walker Because one side of it looks like garbage, I'm guessing. I don't see why you couldn't put two facing opposite sides, though.

I would like to purchase the Moulds
We do not sell the molds, just the mold rubber.

Smooth-On how much the mold rubber?
Why have you not used vytaflex 40?
they are using a polymerized concrete and did not want to use a urethane rubber.
I love your work
very good this idea, the more you have seen a recyclable bob never seen more can see right now is only accesses recyclable bob on youtube and you will see this good idea.
would have liked the bamboo fence, that is some strong stuff!!

nice!...didn't know this existed.....cement won't crack because of the fiberglass reinforcing and because of the type of concrete used

You're going to have to come up with an automated production technique for this ever to be economically feasible for anyone other than the rich.
The time to cure materials in so many steps would still be a limiting factor! But what a beautiful result.
Thank you very very much, I was wondering for years,- now I`ve got the idea !!!!
Thanks!°
Damn your company makes such cool stuff. Aaaaaaamazing
hi there, can I get cement post rubber mould
Cool! Thank you!
love the music at the end of the video
And how much for 1 of that ?
All that spraying with no face masks? were these done in Mexico?
Those guys should wear mask when spraying fiberglass.
no mask needed when spraying Fibre Glass?
