I used to play music with a dude, and there were always a few really beautiful theme songs I wanted to do a cover of (Gumby, and David the Gnome were the main 2, but there were a bunch!) We did David the gnome a few times, and it was so much fun, but I can’t sing for shit) But with Gumby, I just couldn’t decide whether to make it a somewhat fast punk song, or slow it down and make it sound really depressing… I think slow and depressing would fit the chorus much better, maybe I’ll get off my ass and try it one of these days.
Man do I miss being a kid in the late 60s early 70s, I was born in 64. Every thing seemed so simple and easy, Dad went to work and I stayed at home with my Mom and watched Gumby and other cool shows.
*"He can walk into any book with his pony pal pokey too, if you got a heart then Gumbys apart of you"* Man I used to always sing this part when watching an episode of gumby. I miss being a kid.
I haven't heard this theme song since the early 70's but I still occasionally play it in my mind. I too miss that simpler time of the late 60's and 70's.
You know...I'm 65 now, and I guess that is a pretty fair call there...Gumby was the "Spongebob" for my Generation of children at that time, considering he first made his appearance in 1958! I still love the 1967 theme song!
My parents said that they have seen it and was really good so I watched it and I was amazed that this show was stop motion and it's still good to this day!
Glad you said it. This show was unsettling and low key demented. Everything about it is slightly nightmarish. Gives me the heebie jeebies just remembering it. Even as a kid, I could still grasp something was way off...
Wow!! Absolutely awesome. Back in 1966, my dad and I travelled to Orange NSW Australia from Sydney. On the motel TV in Orange, I had my first glimpse of CBN 8 Orange and during the evening's programmes, they included Gumby, with the exact theme that you have included in your video. Thanks for sharing this video and bringing back a great memory. Well done!!
In my old neighborhood in Central LA, black kids weren't getting shot by the black gang bangers like the Crips and Bloods like they were in the 80s and 90s.@@SuperMiIk
I've been curious about the Gumby series because my Dad used to watch it a lot as a kid. That and I have vague memories of watching the film. I'm glad I went down this rabbit hole because now I can say the stuff with Gumby is awesome and interesting.
This takes me back to the summer of '86. I was 11 years old and the Monkees made their come back that year. I remember watching their old TV show weekdays at 9am on WKBD Channel 50 in Detroit. Then at 3pm, WXON channel 20, Gumby would be on. I watched those shows religiously that summer. 😄
I grew up watching this I always loved the 60s and 70s versions better... my mother was born in 65 grandma always put his on for mommy to watch on Saturday mornings. Then I grew up with my little brother in the late 80s watching it and now my daughter is hooked. Gumby and Johnny Quest have to be my favorite the top 2 cartoons of all time.
My dad would watch the 80s gumby which was still on in reruns in the 90s with me, and he was like 'that's not the gumby theme song I remember' and then he'd sing this one I thought he was being a little amelodic but it turns out that's how it actually goes. It really sounds made up as you go along XD
😲 Oh wow, talk about a blast from the past. Do not get me wrong here, I enjoyed watching Gumby when I was a young kid and I still enjoy it to this day. That's one of my favorites, I think they need to bring this back on the television. Matter of fact I think everything they played back in the 80s in the early 90s need to come back on regular TV again. Miss it all and I know they're not going to do that no more, I'm just saying. I just would love to see the younger generation see the things that we had back in the '80s and 90s growing up.
I only knew about Gumby because my French teacher had a Gumby doll. How did NWA decide to sample and interpolate this Gumby jingle? Im mindblown with the creativity 😂
I was born in 2007, but my father had class. Grew up on the og Gumby (the first show start to finish) and Gumby and Friends! I remember being to scared of the blockheads for some reason, looking back though, they did have some pretty scary scenes for a 4yo
Reading all of your comments I'm so glad that my mom bought me Gumby box sets growing up! I was born in 99' but this was a huge part of my childhood!! (Does make talking to people my age more awkward though!)
Imagine the random jingle writer from the 60s penning this little jingle, not knowing that it would eventually play a role in one of the biggest artists of the 21st century being accused of creeping on kids 🤯

I was born in the late 1950's....so I grew up on a classic children's show. Very fascinated by stop motion animation....I grew up watching this show and George Pal, Ray Harryhausen and Jim Danforth monsters! Those were the days.......
i remember watch a few episodes of this a as kid and being fine but something in my head made the thought "Gumby is immortal shape shift that can grow and shrink at will and make his hands into anything he wishes". from that point for the next couple year i was absolutely petrified of stop motion animation due to how jittery the animation style is. but ironically the movie that changed my mind was coraline.
So this is where the theme in the main menu for the video game comes from. Here's some context, in case you don't know what I mean: Gumby got a game on the GBA in 2003, called "Gumby Vs. The Astrobots", and in the main menu, this theme plays.
