Good morning all. Still chilly and damp here. Sharpening chains and catching up on things at the Stihl store today. Take a moment today and pray for all those souls who lost their life are those still suffering as a result of the unprovoked attack on our country 19 years ago. Have a day.
I don’t got a plan, but I got a machine full of fuel needs to be on a shirt. Haha. I’m gonna have to steal this quote and use it in a video because it hits home a lot for me.
Hey Mike! Enjoy your videos. I want to give you a great thumbs up. I ran a heavy construction for almost 40 years and one of the things I was most proud of is everyone said I always had the best operators. I watched your latest series of videos and you could have worked for me anytime. Well done my friend!!!
Mike, you sir are a much better operator than you give yourself credit for. I love watching you operate your equipment. Doing so gave me the confidence to do some road building on my farm. Though I only had my Kubota L4701 HST and a box blade I was able to cut and level a sloping, butt puckering" hillside into a little over a quarter mile of traversable road. Thank you for your time and efforts. AND, the rest of your family as well! Have a day!
Mike a WV hillbilly here, I live in Bridgeport and am in sight of the Harrison Power station you mentioned. You are right about our slip clay, I have been battling it for a year now. I bought a used JD 35D excavator and is the best money I ever spent.
I guess I want to thank you for the regular, worth-watching content. You and your family give us all hours of good entertainment, and thanks for sharing your ideas for building, landscaping, and other projects. OWTM is a great place to hang out on RUclips.
That would have to be the best advert Kubota could have had. Mike handled the machine extremely well for a man who does not do that as an everyday job. Kubota should be very pleased with the time he had use of the machine.
Our farm has a bank like your going around the garage... 1 bulldozer and 3 excavators later it was finally fixed. Every spring it would start a mini landslide and to finally fix it we had the last excavator put football sized rocks on the bank and it seems to have fixed the problem. So good luck :)
You make that work look so effortless. Even sped up, your smooth control of the machine looks flawless. It is entertaining to watch and I love the rambling stories. It's like chatting with a friend I have never met.
well , I like when you ramble. I am in a hobby club, we would meet on Sundays, after a couple of hours we would put our chairs in a circle and have a lunch break--that's when the stories would start. I enjoy that as much as the reason we get together in the first place.
This was such an enjoyable stretch of videos these last few weeks. Learned a lot of great tips and your conversations in the cab were very enjoyable. Sad to see the machine go but looking forward to that new building. You work very hard and so deserve that building. Thanks for everything! From Granville Ohio.
A great video as usual Mike, you and letsdig18 with Chris are two of my favorite channels to watch, I will miss seeing the excavator as well but I like your plan to get one for your retirement you have very good skills with an excavator and a tractor I have no doubt you will find plenty of side jobs
Thinking all of us along the Eastern Seaboard are going to get hammered !!! Way to many storms at sea right now !!! The next month could be bad . Winter I think is going to nail us big time !!! I think a wall would have suited you better . With your operation there , would have been a good spot for the wood mill . Nice big wall behind . That being said , you sure can use that machine !!!!! Looks Fantastic !!!!
Here in Northern California the weather is and has been Smokey. With all the Wildfires still burning, with temps in the mid 80's. Haven't had rain at all since April/May. Humidity in low 20's. Nice work on the slope. I enjoy your channel, keep it up.
Sometimes no plan is the best plan. I used to come to mt. Storm and work on trucks and equipment. We've been over some of the same ground. As far as the winter here in VA. We're past due for cold and snow.. great video thanks for sharing, see ya next video
As far as weather goes I've heard the almanac is calling for the northeast to get a good amount of snow and colder temps this season. I'm in northeast Ohio. I'm ready for the snow so bring it on. We got a brand new kubota L2501 last month. Will be looking forward to putting it to work all year 😂. Hopefully we'll be able to see you all at the Paul Bunyan show if they still have it!!
I just rented a mini excavator Bobcat E35, I really struggled to get the hang of it, I watched your video on how to operate one and that helped. I wish I could have operated it better, I was able to get the job done digging our pond bigger.
Regarding your question that addresses the upcoming winter, my thoughts are a much colder and snowier winter than usual. According to the weather experts, the jet stream is forecasted to drop lower in North America. Typically that brings more cold and precipitation. One sign that the fall season is fast approaching is the leaves are beginning to turn in Northern Vermont and Northern New York.
Michael Sudak - Had a summer job with the State of Ohio Highway Dept. in the ‘70’s. We would mow behind the guard rails and occasionally had to tie a rope to the sickle bar walk behind to keep it from rolling over. You comment reminded me.😂
Sounds like a great plan... and a good use for the winch on my Jeep. Lower it down with gravity...suck it back to the top with the winch. Shoot. That may be a business plan. Lol
As I watch the beginning of this video, there is one point in the slope that is smoothed by the excavator’s bucket. That is about as steep as my front yard and I mow that every couple of weeks. Just travel up and down the slope, not across. Now, I will watch the whole video and see how you fixed it, which, I’m sure, will be fine. Have a day.
Great video AGAIN! I enjoy the intermittent fast forward to see a large amount of work done in a shorter time. But I REALLY enjoyed your stories a LOT❣️ Would you let us wave goodbye to the excavator as it leaves- please. Marcus from Chesapeake VA.
At 9:42 "I am going to miss this excavator...I am" That's pretty easy to see when the end is getting near and you don't have time to start anything new. You're just kinda "piddling" around because you don't want to get off it. I get it. :-)
The squirrels in CT have been taking acorns out of the trees! I predict a serious snow this winter (thinking I may have made a mistake selling the snowblower for my BX...) I'll miss watching you work that excavator!
It's amazing how much work you can do with the excavator ,you have a lot of experience working the land. The weather for this winter is going be bad, look how the rest of the year went. Plus we are due for one. We have been having mild winters for a while.
Good morning Mike, great job with the mx80 !👍👍 You definitely operate that machine in a professional mode, you make it look like you are painting with it. I hope you can get one of those models you were talking about before you retire you will put it to good use and give others demonstrations on how to operate them. Take care out there and be safe. Tell the family 👋.
Dang nice job on the grade. Can't wait to see the build. Hope you don't have any problems getting materials. Might want to look at ordering doors right now or as soon as you set posts. Waiting 11 weeks for custom. Also steel roof and siding is way behind as are shingles. And throw in all the hurricane damage and a lot of material going south. Sorry for the ramble but building is my thing.
Look at the amounts of fruits and nuts on the local trees. Heavy with acorns and apples expect heavy winter. Also look at your wholly caterpillars the winter will be heavy, where it's black on the body of the caterpillar and mild where its brown. I haven't spotted a wholly caterpillar yet here in Michigan, That is how I guesstimate the coming winter weather.
In Western North Dakota we have a fruit tree here, more of a thorny bush called The Bullberry, or Buffaloberry. Very tart until it freezes. The foliage and the wildlife work together to spread their seeds. During sharptail Grouse season these brush patches are where you will find them. If it's going to be a bad winter with a lot of snow the bushes will be full of berries high on the tree. If it's going to be a mild winter there'll be fewer berries on the top and more on the lower branches.
Eugene I Iive in wayland Michigan and have see two catapillers and they were almost all black. Hopefully it is a nasty winter can't wait to get the snowmobiles out
Hi Mike. I live in Central New York, the day is a little dark, had a little rain and it is 55 degrees at 12:45. I was out cutting, splitting, and stacking the last of my firewood. Mowed the back yard cleaned the mower up. I have a feeling that snow is coming early this year, Feel an urgency in my heart to get outside work done.I enjoy your videos very much and how you like things neat and tidy. (I do also.) God Bless and take care.
Hi Mike. That slope might be a candidate for a planting of crown vetch or some other vegetation that won’t require mowing and provides good erosion control. Don’t build in dangerous maintenance on your landscaping
Mike they shut the windmills down. When not needed for power. They turn the blades and apply the brake. I worked at the windmill farm in Palm Springs California. They are huge and require a lot of maintenance. However they produce a lot of power. God bless
Love your videos! I'm not trying to be negative in any way but y'all cut mulching too much good wood. I make canes and walking sticks for a hobby. Some of the wood that you cut for fire wood and mulching I would love to have. I guess it's just me. But red oak or walnut trees looks the best for a cane. Y'all keep up with the videos, can't wait for the next one to come out. Cliff from Social Circle, Ga.
Mike - Such a joy to watch you operate that excavator. Kubota is definitely getting the better part of your deal with them as well as you show off their gear.
Use logs to build a wall to support the wall of dirt secure them by driving large rebar into the ground through the logs put a vapor barrier between logs and dirt .
A Batwing brush hog, could probably mow most of that from the top and the bottom. I haven't used , or shopped for one of them in a long time. I wonder if they make one where you can shut the two side gear-boxes off and just use the center one for trails?
Well, here in the Southwest, typically, if we have a wet summer (monsoons rains) , then the winter tends to be colder with more snow amounts, we shall see! We always need moisture, whatever the form is, usually snow, here in the higher elevations of New Mexico. Pie Town Larry
Mike - Great video. Nice touch on the excavator controls. The hillside looks super. Blessings to you, Melisa and the kids. Hi to Hunter, Hannah, and Eva.
Mike, keep up the great work. Looking good and should be great for NEXT Years Fireworks Display and your Wood Facilities Processing Area. Now, LET the Building Begin and So Long Excavator, until Next Time. From the Oregon Gerlach's
That came out really great. A little seed and you’d never know what you did there. Yeah, I bet you’re going to miss that excavator, so many possibilities with it.
I really enjoy watching your videos. I just purchased 10 acres of wooded land here in Maine to build a camp. I'm tempted to rent an escalator to clear about a 3rd of an acre and to rough in 150 driveway. I pretty much do everything myself but I have never run any equipment larger than my JD 2025R. lol. Trees are mostly red oak and maple 16" or less. Having no experience running an excavator do you think I should just hire it out?
Thumbs up 👍🏻 first! Haven’t seen any Woolly worms yet to make a determination about Winter. We have an early Youth Deer 🦌 hunt this weekend in Michigan. The kids always take nice Deer in the early hunt.
Old Man Fred, there sure are a lot of old wise tails of what the winter will produce. The latest one is how high the ears are on the corn. My father-in-law who is 91 and still remodeling home for resale says the hieght of the corn cobs is an indication of snow depth. If that is true I am glad I have two tractor snow blowers.💪
Hey Mike, I think winter in the northeast will be a snowy one, I’ve always noticed that Mother Nature balances out the droughts...not always but a good percentage! Plus I just bought a couple sleds, getting back in it after being away a few years. Tell Hunter Hey for New Hampshire! Keep up the good work!!
Same thing down here in NC .we are still getting hot and humid days from the tropics pushing up out of the Caribbean Islands and yes im sick of it and hoping for some nice 70's temps and good weather. But hurricane season is in full force in the south Atlantic so I guess it will keep pushing humidity and warm weather up to us. Probably going to go from summer to very cold winter Temps like you said. Better then the terrible fires and dryness on the west coast. I believe the good lord is trying to tell the liberals something. But they don't no any better.
I really enjoyed spending this morning w you Mike. Really satisfying. I look forward to your channel every day. You make really great videos. May you be blessed for the rest of your days. Thank you so much for sharing. I'm Keith, 65, in Hickory, 45 miles North of Charlotte, NC.👍👌❤
I watch your channel from Morgantown West Virginia. I’ve been watching since your first video. I am fascinated by your skill in doing everything that you do. I am Retired and I’m 81 years old. Someday I hope we can meet.
Well Mike over here in the Uk we would have cut back square put in some wire gabions probably 1 m tall and filled them with 3-4” clean rock ,lined the back with filter fabric ( teram over here) and back filled with shale a topsoil con top , hey ho neat vertical reasonably priced retaining wall👍❤️
Another awesome video love watching the excavator work. You could throw some wildflower seeds on the hill that might look cool and maybe save you from having to mow that area
*Dear Kubota KX-080:* "You were a good, trusty steed. You dug out my pond. And, prepped the site for the best hobby garage on this side of the Mississippi River. I'm gonna miss you old friend. I'll swing by the rental yard from time to time and check in on you. Until we join forces again." ---- Your friend, Michael Morgan
Mike: I think you better have a box of tissues ready when you return that excavator. I don't think I've ever seen you more in love with a piece of equipment! Sometimes the best way of dealing with a loss like that is to buy another piece of equipment! Lol 😂😂😂
Great video as always! keep up the good work!! I deer hunt in Townsend Delaware, in the last 4 years, we have not had any snow while the season was open. So I am going to go with another mild winter.
I believe that this winter is going to be a deep freeze and tall snow. This weather is topsy/ turvey. Break out the winter gear and lube up the snow machines!
Fun watching you sculpt that cove shape into the hillside, Mike. Creating a radius along a hillside is one of toughest jobs with an excavator bucket, and takes real skill. You've got to see the end result, first, which is like Michelangelo seeing David in a block of marble. Got any Italian in your family tree? :)
True...but at the rental yard they are super geared up for that chore. They have pressure washers, a cleanup mud area...etc. it's not a problem whatsoever if a machine is returned dirty... unless it's in the rental agreement. Your paying to USE their equipment... but, they may give you a discount and better service in the future if you save them that work. Just hosing off the mud from the cab and any excess that could fall off the machine during transportation should be fine.
WAVETUBE84 If I remember right there was no charge for the machine. I would wash it, grease it, and fill the tanks and fluids. They have a pressure washer. But one of those fixed nozzles that just has a hard stream about 1/8 of an inch on a water hose does a good job of washing the mud and dirt off. Then a good brush washing with soap and rinse off with the pressure washer. It was a brand new machine when it was delivered to them. It would be a good jester to return it ready to go to the next coustomer.
No plan - but a machine full of fuel.....get to work. Like that, it works better sometimes with No Plan and see where it takes ya. Worked out pretty well I would say.. Nice grading & More Room! On to the next now. Have a good and safe day.
Even if it’s steep you could plant Mini clover. They use it in golf courses, grows 4-6 inches tall. Needs mowing twice a year. Then it’ll grow 3-4”. No real need to mow later.
Mike, I just have to say that you are one of the finest operators I have ever seen. That boom and bucket are just extensions of your fingers, I grew up on tractors and all sorts of ag and industrial equipment, and I have to say, you got it all goin' on there guy. I doubt that there are many people who do this every day who could do it better. I have made it my mission to make sure I have seen every episode, and I wouldn't miss it. No bell icon, I look for your stuff every morning. OWTM goes great with a cup of black coffee.. I live within a mile of the Rio Grande at Brownsville, TX and we got our first 'cool front' yesterday. It got to 70 overnight and it sure felt good to go outside without the sweat dripping. We get into the 90's in march, and it goes up from there. Cold for us is the low 40's. Keep up the good work. You have a great family who have a father who has taught by example the value of hard work. When you retire you will have a beautiful place to spend your days. Tell Hunter I said "have a day'...
Nice machine work mike! That saying needs to be on a shirt - “ I don’t have a plan, but I got a machine full of fuel”. When we have the guys dig borrow pits for sandstone here in Clearfield county we fill them back in and put 45’s on the sides. Which is exactly what you did. Cya on the next one!
My son is a Bobcat mechanic, works for a local dealer, he was able to buy a trade in, 8000 hours, S300, with tracks, for 1600 dollars.........the thing works perfectly, after fixing one minor problem, invaluable on my 40 acres, I bought a 2000 $ grapple for it, and my 40 acres is beginning to look like a park!! you Morgans are a great inspiration for this old man to get moving......I'm 65.......gettin it done!!
Hi Mike, very nice work. Glad to hear you are thinking of getting an excavator in a few years/retirement. You will not regret it. A machine around 6 metric tons is perfect. There are 4 or 5 great machines in that class.
I have been hearing that they are expecting this to be a record breaking winter here in PA. Very cold and a lot of snow. As for the deer, I have been seeing a lot in my yard with quite a few of the bucks in the 6 and 8 point range. I did see a road kill the other day that had to have been around a 12 to 16 point. I still had to cut my grass weekly, even with that drought. I have a couple of natural springs in my yard that never did stop flowing and as such, areas of my yard got plenty of water and kept growing. Now with all this rain, I have had to cut it twice a week.
Thats god and mother nature working together to confuse the moron rioters.hopefully the cold will send them indoors but there not that smart obviously.
I'm in Northern Lower Michigan (Leelanau County) and we also had a hotter then normal summer. And the switch to fall turn fast. Just hoping we have at least 2 months of moderate weather. MY thought about this winter is that it will be short but hard. I think its gonna start early December and go till the end of February. Thinking we"ll see about 135 inches of snow this year
Have you considered planting a ground cover plant instead of grass? The soil looks darn good and should promote good growth. Some kind of ivy maybe. Something that doesn't grow high. Just a thought. Do you ever have the opportunity to find large rocks for free. That would look nice too. You could always move them to another location down the road should you want to change the terrain.

A Batwing brush hog, could probably mow most of that from the top and the bottom. I haven't used , or shopped for one of them in a long time. I wonder if they make one where you can shut the two side gear-boxes off and just use the center one for trails?
Ventrac mower. Maybe they will let Motor Mike work a deal.
Well, here in the Southwest, typically, if we have a wet summer (monsoons rains) , then the winter tends to be colder with more snow amounts, we shall see! We always need moisture, whatever the form is, usually snow, here in the higher elevations of New Mexico.

Mike - Great video. Nice touch on the excavator controls. The hillside looks super. Blessings to you, Melisa and the kids. Hi to Hunter, Hannah, and Eva.
Mike you made that bank look amazing . While i watch i always think how i would shape it up. Its really fun to watch. Thanks
A good community here is right Mike. The only channel where I enjoy reading most of the comments. Cheers from Eastern Pa
Mike, keep up the great work. Looking good and should be great for NEXT Years Fireworks Display and your Wood Facilities Processing Area. Now, LET the Building Begin and So Long Excavator, until Next Time. From the Oregon Gerlach's

It's easy to understand why you will miss the excavator, it's definitely super handy to have on hand.
The slope looks good should be able to live with that!!👍👊
That came out really great. A little seed and you’d never know what you did there. Yeah, I bet you’re going to miss that excavator, so many possibilities with it.
I want a T-shirt with "I don't really have a plan" on the front and "but sometimes a machine full of fuel is better" on the back!
I'm going to miss seeing the machine there also Mike. Give it a hug before it goes. Going to start cooling off here in Lancaster county Pa.
Nice wrap up project with the excavator. Tough to say goodbye to a piece of equipment that useful. You got really handy with it, Mike!
Winter forecasts are generally fairly accurate in the Old Farmers Almanac. I buy one every year.
The bank looks nice Mike. I will miss watching you work the excavator.

Real,
I just went out back and measured the Corn Cob height in my field I lease to a farmer.
48 inches on the taller ones!!!
I surveyed over between Davis and Mt. Storm. One day it was 65 and sunny and the next day it was 30ish and 6 inches of snow on the ground.
Reckon it is going to go from summer to winter quick this year.
*Dear Kubota KX-080:*
"You were a good, trusty steed. You dug out my pond. And, prepped the site for the best hobby garage on this side of the Mississippi River. I'm gonna miss you old friend. I'll swing by the rental yard from time to time and check in on you. Until we join forces again."
---- Your friend, Michael Morgan
One good indication of the impending winter is the deer. Their coats are changing to winter hair already
Mike:
I think you better have a box of tissues ready when you return that excavator. I don't think I've ever seen you more in love with a piece of equipment! Sometimes the best way of dealing with a loss like that is to buy another piece of equipment! Lol 😂😂😂
lol
Great video as always! keep up the good work!! I deer hunt in Townsend Delaware, in the last 4 years, we have not had any snow while the season was open. So I am going to go with another mild winter.
Hello Tim, I live in Elkton, but work in Smyrna, nice to see you on here
@@j.chrisbeck7492 Like wise!
Would like to see you clean the excavator up and get ready to return to the dealer.
@@billmorris2613 that would be very nice. Yeah, abrand new machine should be cared after
No plan - but a machine full of fuel.....get to work.
Mike- really enjoyed your rambling. Found your stories and experiences very interesting. Would love to hear more. Thanks for sharing.
3 string trimmers painted pink could help.
ted,
Ha, Ain’t happenin’!
Good question on the winter expectations. Here in the Pacific Northwest, all the signs are for a heavy winter. We'll see if I'm reading them right!
Western PA winter prediction, cold, gray, wet and of course muddy. Have a great weekend..New Castle
Always a pleasure watching your skills with that machine Mike. That area is coming out nice!
You sure demonstrated your skills with that machine today.
👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🗽🙏🏻I call that the "Lets Getter Done Plan"! It seems to work out most of the time. The slope looks pretty good.
I think we're due for a cold Winter and some snow. Cool today. Maybe you can find a nice used excavator, Mike?
We already had our first snow here in Denver on Tuesday. 90 on Monday and 35 on Tuesday.
I heard that, thats crazy
I heard you had 90 degrees one day and snow the next.
That is Crazy!
Thats god and mother nature working together to confuse the moron rioters.hopefully the cold will send them indoors but there not that smart obviously.
Such is life on the Kubota for now. Beautiful work you did with it and it will last.
Thanks for sharing part of your life experiences. I'm envious of your diet. All I've got here in East Tennessee is rock and clay.
thanks you bring alot of joy watching # BE SAFE
Still hot in Georgia. You use that excavator like it is and extention of your arms and hands. That new spot would be great for the splitter.
Thinking we"ll see about 135 inches of snow this year
Steve from Ohio . Love Watching your vidio's .
Yes those little excavators are easy to fall in love with . I am 69 , retired . Wish I had one.
Good morning Morgans in eastern Ontario we have lots of apples and acorns I think its going to be early
