- Welcome to my last post of the year: a video of Opeth's only performance of Harlequin Forest in 2023.
Taken from the second of their two nights in Santiago, Chile, the band were on fire throughout the night. On this track in particular, Fredrik's lead vocals through the start were outstanding; Mendez's playing was heartfelt and flawless; Joakim's keys set a delicate dynamic leading into the twin-guitar interlude; Mikael's growls were on point and he was clearly into it; and Waltteri was a total joy to watch. He's incredible! I'm still so excited that he's joined.
Lastly, a special shout out goes to the crowd - the crowd who sang along at full volume and ADDED A SPONTANEOUS VOCAL HARMONY (around 6:00). Unreal.

Well, this video brought back so many memories. I went to the Brazil Concert in São Paulo - February 8th. Was my first Opeth concert - I don't live anywhere near São Paulo, In fact I had to make a 2.600km trip just to see them, lol. Anyways, it was awesome. I've been watching so many videos of them live, in this very channel and many others and still the live experience was beyond me.
It was a weird felling to see them playing in front of you, its like: fuck, they are really real goddamn! Since Brazil was the first show of this tour, we didn't know what kind of setlist they would play, but i had in mind they would peform something like the last Euro Tour and i'm glad they did. Black Rose Immortal and The Moor was something else.
Needless to say they are impecable. And i would like to mention that they sound like no other band live, you could literally hear everything crystal clear. One of the things that surprised me the most was the clarity of the Waltteri cymbals specially in Black Rose Immortal.
