    great vid I think you proved just how clever Porsche have been by developing just a few changes into your car, by taking the track out of it and in doing so make it appeal to whole bigger audience, clearly they knew that.. which is why it exists at all. Is the RS4.0 that much better than the 3.8RS or even the base 3.8 GT3 of the same vintage? Honestly would Iove to see a comparison. The 3.8RS and the standard 997.2 GT3 are a lot more accessible. How much of the experience are you giving up relative to the price? These days at least in the US a 997.2 GT3 can still be found sub 150k and you still can find the occasional RS for under 200. Far shy of the 500-600k for the RS4.0

    • @888mf4
      @888mf4  3 года назад

      The 997 GT3 RS 4.0 was limited to 600 cars, hence it will always command a premium. The 4.0 engine really defines the experience, however the addition of carbon bonnet, thinner glass, plastic rear window and rear side windows, carbon front wings, carbon rear spoiler, carbon seats, optional PCCB, all help to reduce weight and that's what makes it feels so alive. There are some differences over the 3.8 but I am not sure of all of them. The most obvious is the front canards that the 4.0 had for extra downforce that were not fitted to the 3.8. I have driven a 997 GT3 RS on the channel and that was a great car, and for the price I think great value. However the torque in the 4.0 is just wonderful and is a distinguishing feature of the car. It will go down in history as one of the best Porsches ever made, if not one of the best sports car ever made.

    Funny how you say nothing compares to a 4.0, I would agree but I think with RWS it would be even more special. Like you, I have a 4.0, but I also have an R. The chassis comes alive on the road with the RWS and it never feels vague at the front. The older 911’s need to be driven harder, really leaning on the brakes and the front end, to get the best of them. The later cars are just more rounded, but not to their detriment. However, there is no ‘best’. It is what gets under YOUR skin that counts, no one can tell you what is better. IMO.

      Market value ≠ Good drivers car. There are lots and lots of very special and extremely expensive Lamborghinis from the 60s and 70s, nevertheless those cars are known to drive (let's say it in a diplomatical way) suboptimal. Cars are often seen from an art and and collector point of view and not as driver's cars.
      The term "best car on earth" is silly obv as there is no such thing. But that a 997 4.0 is more fun to drive than let's say an Enzo i could imagine any time. Hypercars like Enzo, Pagani, etc are known to be delivering a 10/10 in terms of show but not so much in terms of "Today is a nice day for a ride which car do i take?"

    If the touring is not limited then why are there only 64 in the UK

    • @smoovmoover
      @smoovmoover 6 лет назад +2

      The Touring was an option when you ordered a GT3. It was only released in September 2017 and by then the first batch of 991.2 GT3's had already been built and sold. Also if you wanted PDK then the Touring wasn't an option as it is manual only. And if you wanted the wing then obviously you wouldn't go for the Touring option.
      I am lucky to have one of the UK Touring GT3's and find it is an awesome car yet understated and unassuming when driven at legal road speeds. Open it up and it is a totally different animal. There is no right or wrong choice, just personal preferences.

    Great video other than , they have the same torque and the touring kills it on the track and everywhere else .

    No mentioned of the Touring's electric steering. I guess the difference in hydraulic vs electric is negligible by now.

    Mark, you should have tried my 991.2 GT3 manual club sport with the wing to have a direct comparison. I believe the suspension is firmer than the touring and is a more focused car. Although in terms of investment you are sitting in the right car depending what you paid!

      I own the GTI Clubsport (vids on channel) i find it alittle weird why it seems VW borrowed the Clubsport name for the GTI though. Im wondering if the CEO at present was behind it (former Porsche CEO Matthias Muller that took over VW after dieslgate..?)

      The owner just came back from a European tour and hence it got cracked.

    GT3 TOURING over the 4.0 any day. Materials and Engineering has advanced since the 4.0

    • @freedomrider266
      @freedomrider266 5 лет назад

      True, but not the point. The guy loves the 4.0 specifically BECAUSE it is more analog, especially the mechanical steering. Depends whether you are looking to also daily drive your ride, or just track it. He only tracks his 4.0. Me, I'd have the GT3 Touring as my daily driver.

    Ignoring values and in particular investment value I'd take the GT3 touring based on the type of driving I'd do.

      Why is everyone so obsessed with the cracked windscreen?? The owner just came back from a European tour and let us film the day after. So he didn't have time to get it replaced.

    • @888mf4
      @888mf4  6 лет назад +1

      The Turbo S is a great daily driver, but very different. GT3 Touring is naturally aspirated and rear wheel drive.

    On camera the 4.0 sounds weak/muted compared to the Touring...what a note on that thing, very Motorsport. That said these two cars are different animals anyways and you should never have to choose between the two, imho

    The 991.2 GT3 Touring has the better engine, slightly forward placed engine for better balance, rear wheel steering, better chassis & more compliancy for road handling but scrap ALL THAT he of course chooses "HIS" car! Lmfao 😂😂😂😂😂 why even have a video
