People say Vijay don't try to do serious films but in reality he gave Atlee chance in his second directorial now Atlee is working with SRK.He gave chance to Lokesh after his first release and now he is the biggest Tamil director . He gave chance to Nelson in his 3rd film even though Nelson mess it up but he got a chance to work with Rajni sir in jailer and he gave a solid comeback to Rajnikanth on box office. His project with Vetrimaran is on hold for years because Vetri is busy. Now he is doing a 100% Loki film and his next is with Venkat Prabhu which is going to be another different story for Vijay. In his upcoming line up he has movies planned with S Shankar, Karthik subbaraj , Atlee and Vetri maran. When Lokesh said Master was 50% his and 50% Vijay's that doesn't mean Vijay told him to add something in script. Lokesh said Vijay never intefeared with story he will do whatever director told him to do. It was him who wanted to write story in 50-50 formula because he wanted to cater Vijay fans. Like in Master there are so many reference to old Vijay movies the entry scene, interval dialogue, kabbadi match etc. All that was to cater die hard fans that is what lokesh called 50 % of Vijay's. And that flawless superhero type character of Vijay is created by Atlee and A R Murugadoss which later became typical Vijay character Movies in that category's are Sarkar , Mersal and Bigil and Varisu.
Vijay is legit a good actor, people dont pay so much attention to his talent (he is also a good singer and dancer and great in action) couse he is a comercial actor, just like with SRK (well SRK have some non comercial movies) but watch some of his movies and you will appreciate him, the man deserve all the love and fans that he has.
The problem is there r not many movies of Vijay without any mass moments & pure acting but SRK does have it like My name is Khan or Swades etc. Ofc both r more commercial actors & Srk has done more movies. Also, I'm not saying Vijay is not an actor ,u can see that in many of his movies like the one these guys r talking about there r moments like the jail scene where he portrays emotions beautifully ( in kaththi or Theri or even in Mersal) but ig he doesn't get many scripts of non commercial movies much like u said. I love his mass films too but I'd love to see him in a gritty & grungy film like Asuran or a grounded & pure acting based movie

This movie was done in a short time and in covid restrictions.. So it was kinda like an experimental movie. Neither a 100% Vijay movie nor a 100% Lokesh movie. You will see that in Leo. But all theater owners and distributers are still thankful to Vijay for releasing this movie in cinemas while other movies were released on OTT platforms back then. Vijay strictly said no to it even tho they asked for huge prices. He said he wanted to release this movie in cinemas for his fans' celebrations (50% occupancy) and to help the theater owners who were struggling during the lockdown times..
I grew up watching malayalam films, but also did dabble into tamil cinema. For sure, we have the OJs and after analyzing, Vijay is the only superstar left in the zeitgeist. This is not a comment on other actors, but his ability to act on different themes and still be able to portray that mass movie element is admirable. It's pretty thanks to Lokesh, and I'm really looking forward to Leo.
Different themes😂 dude he is a very mediocre actor... He is just a star .. Calling his acting as great is an insult to other great actors like kamal, vikram, suriya, sivaji ganesan etc who were both actors as well as stars.. He does the same masala concept each time and doesn't leave his comfort zone unlike the above mentioned actors.. I agree he is a great entertainer but calling him an actor is so far fetched

Vijay is a bigger star than suriya Or vikram but they are all-round better as they have decent stardom and are great actors... Doing masala films will give u more success than doing challenging roles.. Rayyappan and Michael are just decent acting not great.. Not even 1/4th of the range of kamal, vikram Or suriya have done in their films.. None of his film characters are memorable like the anniyan, pithamagan, deiva thirumagal, ghajinj, vaarnam ayiram, nandha type movie characters.. Same story.. Same buildup, same 3 or 4 expression and mannerisms.. That's it.. Bro being a malayali and after seeing great actors like mammukka, lalettan, fahad etc you still think him as a good actor🤣 he has improved a bit in the past few years but nowhere near the calibre of those actors.. Versatility matters dude.. Whenever he has tried different genres which is very rare like kannukul nilavu has always misfired coz of his mediocre acting
From my understanding what the OP means is picking up different theme and delivering it with both a emotional pov and mass pov. So mass is constant (which makes the movies look similar) but the theme certainly varies. Like in Kaththi he picks up Farmers issues completely dwells into it (as Jeevanantham) but the mass element (Kathiresan) is still there likewise in many other movies withing a single character. I don't know why you feel he is a mediocre actor? I understand the he doesn't do much experimental roles like Suriya Vikram or Kamal but Vijay is a very convincing actor be it while he see the kids han*ging in Master or watch the framers sacrifice themselves in Kaithi or his conversation with his dying wife in Theri all these prove he is a very good actor more than what most people credit him for. He can make people laugh, he can make them cry, he can make them clap, he can make people pity him, he also could make people he can give people goosebumps, he can make them dance etc. and etc. All in all I feel he is an excellent entertainer and a great actor.
I recommend Theri. It is honestly kind of balanced swag and stylish Vijay performance with simple plot story but very interesting and engaging for us as the audience.
Watch lokesh Maanagaram his debut film and u can argue his best film to date. It is a hyperlink thriller film and man one of the best film debut by any indian director. That is the last film u have to checkout to complete his filmography so far.

Korbin was right. Least favourite of their watched 3 loki movies, though its one of greatest vijay movies. This sums up Loki standards. Length of movie is a disadvantage. They must watch Loki's first movie maanagaram, how crisply the screenplay was made, grounded as well since that movie didnt have popular stars. Based on screenplay with less compromise to star values or masala contents, Kaithi > Maanagaram > Vikram > Master

Korbin was right. Least favourite of their watched 3 loki movies, though its one of greatest vijay movies. This sums up Loki standards. Length of movie is a disadvantage. They must watch Loki's first movie maanagaram, how crisply the screenplay was made, grounded as well since that movie didnt have popular stars. Based on screenplay with less compromise to star values or masala contents, Kaithi > Maanagaram > Vikram > Master

Vijay movies are always entertainment but they are some that are not just entertainment but also really good like Thuppakki, Kaththi, Mersal, Theri, Sachein (one of the few not action Vijay moviesm its a romcom), Nanban (another not action Vijay movie) that is the reamke of 3 idiots, one of the few remakes that are as good as the original; Kushi (another not action Vijay movie, a romcom), etc
