What a great, sensitive restoration. It looked very sad at the start, and there's something very emotional about these old cars, having been about when they first came out in the 80's, and going into my local model shop, trying to decide on whether to get a Frog, Grasshopper, or push the boat out for a Manta Ray!! The driver did look a bit terrified!! Maybe it's the bouncy suspension!! 😆 Nice job, and loved the music over this. It added so much to the entire atmosphere. 😎👍🏻
Hi Rob! Yeah, so satisfying shining up these old 1980s icons. And yeah, ha ha. He looks very terrified. Non-intentional from my side. With my simple driver paint jobs it’s always exciting to see how my random eye dots at the end transforms his expression. I kinda liked this one. Funny looking ☺️
Hi there Mikael, a successful restoration indeed, looking beautiful again, worthy of being in your collection. Best wishes, hope you had a lovely Easter 😊😊
Hi bro! Thank you so much! Yeah, it’s ready for round two now ☺️ Good I got a couple of other GH2’s, so it will hopefully stay shiny for a while. Easter vacation was good. Back at work again, hope yours was enjoyable too. Best wishes ☺️
Well that was a bit of a mess and slick tyres on the back!! Ah Glassoppa you will come back from the dead and flourish again. Someone else who applies decals the same way I do Yeah👌👍 Well it looks fantastic Mikael and fits in very well with the rest of the fleet. ATB my friend.
Hi Rob! Thank you so much for watching and the comment my friend. Uhhh, I probably picked up some tricks from you along the way 😅 Yeah, nice addition to my growing GH2 family. Next up I need to build my black edition. ATB to you too!
What a beautiful video to watch, Mikael! Great to see what a dab of epoxy and some elbow grease can do to a "hopeless" old relic. Great proper restoration, it is definitely back to its former glory, without any crazy mods and modern gimmicks, except for the electronics of course! God påske, min ven! Solen skinner og sneen smelter her i Finland!
Hi Mads! Yeah, took some time this one. Washing and painting. But yes, even more satisfying in the end due to the time invested. I actually managed to not buy a single screw although I’ll probably have to buy some new white primer and paint after this one. But fun to see how a long way one can go without buying new parts. God påske til jer deroppe også! Foråret er også kommet til dit gamle land hernede 😊
One thing is for sure Mikael, this Hopper has had a hard life! More wear and tear than any Tamiya I own, even the rear tyres had been transformed into slicks! But your hard work paid off, what a transformation! Similar to my recent Neo Scorcher restoration, but you did it even cheaper - I love the way you restricted yourself to stuff you had lying around. A very enjoyable video to watch as always, mate! :O)
Hi Mark! Uhh, yeah, that one was a real runner 😅 Hope it had fun back then and is pleased to get one more round. But yeah, amazing how dirt and sun can wear down a car. Yeah, I remember your Neo Scorcher. Didn’t it get a new body too I think. And yes, sometimes it’s good to restrict oneself, otherwise a restoration can quickly get out of hand (which is also fun sometimes). Thanks a lot for the enjoyable comment and fur watching my friend. Best wishes to you and the family.
I do have a GH 2. Bought it back in the early 1990's, along with a Thunder Dragon, both are on good shape, I wanted to have a rear wheel drive and a four wheel drive off road RC models, and those two were my choises, I thought about buying another and my eye was on the Avante, but never bought it 😢. Both Thunder and Grass have a Futaba radio, from time to time I drive them, I'm still a boy 😂, and I still love my old RC cars. The one I'm restoring is a Lotus 99T, it had lots of "action" and its body and front wing/suspension needs a replacement. Front wing and suspension I think I'll go for a 3d printing spare part and I'm gonna try to save the body, This Lotus RC body is not cheap, and I don't want to expend a lot of $$ in an old model. Let's see how the body ends, I'm striping the paint wich is a pain in the a... so I can paint it over. Thanks for the vídeo, it gave me the inspiration to restore this Lotus. Oh, it is the original 1987 release, not the around 2010 newest release. Let's see what comes of this restoration.
After i was finished with my grasshopper it was unrepairable. Really learned to drive with that car and it was badly abused. 30 years later i would love to own another one
Nice one! You've reminded me I have an original Hornet rebuild to finish. I still can't understand why Tamiya haven't re-released the Super Hornet. It would be pretty easy and they'd sell lots of them..
Thanks, Ian! Uhh, nice. Hope it’s gonna be a good rebuild. Yeah, well, I think they need some left for the next 20 years of re-releases - to keep it going. Still need the Falcon and some others too.
Wie immer traumhaft dabei zuzusehen wie aus einem alten Modell etwas Großartiges entsteht.
It sure is satisfying to see the end result, compared to what one started out with ☺️
Shows how some simple love and care can make an old Hopper shine.
Yeah! Some paint and epoxy can really do wonders sometimes ☺️

And thank you! I have fun editing these videos, choosing music and so on 😂
@@NordicRC the eyes are always the worst. Having tried to do the head on my son's Blitzer Beetle, I know what it's like. 🤗👍🏻
Stunning
Thanks!

Awesome video and great job. Thanks for showing all the steps in detail
Thank you so much for the kind feedback my friend!
Great save of this one, well done 👍
Thanks, Jesper! Do you remember this one? Thanks for providing it my friend! Sorry it took so long ☺️
@@NordicRC Yep remember, and know the condition it was in, so it really needed some work, to look this pretty.
@@mrjesperklausen Yeah, luckily my plan worked out, only using what I had lying around 😀
🤩What a difference
Hi bro! Yeah, end result can really be satisfying sometimes with these simple restorations ☺️ Thanks bro.
Well Done👍 I need to do that to my old Kyosho Lazer too.
Thank you! Yeah, it's a real rewarding process to see the old ones come back to life again :-) The Lazer is cool too and deserves it.

Those metal shock towers were pretty interesting. Do you think they were a vintage upgrade or just a homemade fix?
Give love to old Tamiyas! And they give it back 🙂
Yeah! :-)

You know they brought back out the candy green grasshopper again.
Yeah. Third or fourth time now. The Candy Green in this video is the Grasshopper II though.

Uhh, the re-releases are cheap nowadays. Maybe some day experience it all again ☺️
Going to get myself a grasshopper 2, bit scarce in my country so it'll have to be online.
