Thanks man for the video. It's amaizing as always, but not even close to your course. Just mind blowing! Your course just changed my life! Thanks for all you do!
Excellent explanation as usual. This is the way Andrew teaches in his course. Make yourself a favor and attend the trial class and you see how deep it goes. After I've attended it I've enrolled immediately! 😃
They Don't know compression, they only use their famous names to sale you another one so called ''greatest plugin of 2024' promising that with their plugin your mixes will sound right. Thank you very much Andrew for such a great explanation! Andrew's course is highly reccomended if you want to know all those nuances of sound - check it out!
Great video Andrew! Top-notch knowledge from a non-BS audio engineer. Really happy mixing experience after your course, I'm progressing every year like crazy thanks to you. Last 2 years I had the biggest jump in skilland still go back to the notes from lessons from time to time to remind myself.
I completed a 9-month course with Andrew in 2021 as additional informal education while studying at the National Music Academy of Ukraine. Now I work as a top-category sound engineer in one of the capital's theaters in Ukraine, and also run my own recording studio. Andrew taught me: - to read manuals for equipment and software - to be skeptical about all kinds of "soundGOODizers" and other "wands" - to perceive sound as a wave with three characteristics: frequency, amplitude, and phase - to trust your ears, not your eyes - how to conduct a blind audio test correctly - how to do level matching correctly - to perceive headphones as an additional control tool, not as the main monitoring tool This is far from a complete list of what Andrew puts into his course. However, even with just this knowledge, I feel myself much calmer and more confident both in working independently on musical projects and in communicating with professionals.
Glad you did this video. I've ran into this issue with some de-essers but I didnt know what exactly it was but it always sounded off. I would love to hear your thoughts on spectral de-essers like Tone Balance Sibalance for example. Cheers!
Man I always felt this way about deessers but I thought I was trippin!! Lol We need you to redo all the classic plugins in our toolbox now that would be worth buying 🔥
You probably won't believe me, but I actually noticed this problem with iZotope's De-esser a month ago, so i had to manually create my own de-esser out of stock Reaper's compressor. Sidechain highpass at 5000HZ, lookahead 3ms, attack 1ms, release 10 ms, still not sure about the ratio... But i think 4:1 is fine with a hard knee... Peak detection, not RMS, of course.
@@MalikAmer87 Hey don't spill the beans! 😅 I was thinking it might be it, but honestly i don't see wideband processing as in issue for regular de-essing duties... In fact, i think wideband mode sounds more natural in many cases, it sounds closer to manual gain automation.
Pro DS is the only good de esser anyway. You could use the pro mb in the "free" sidechain mode as well. For the best results, lower the s sounds manually. I like to use the RX audio editor in spectral mode for that and lower the entire frequency band during the sibilant sound. You won't be taking out any useful information anyway, as the mouth can't create more than one sound at once
The only question what we see and what we process - is it the same? Because UI and processing are 2 separate world and can be completely different in fact.
@@AndrewZeleno1 out of all plugins released currently Andrew, would you say it would be more worth it to go for a psp vintage warmer 2 for vox or getting that warmth from a different plugin like a compressor or a channel strip
Thanks for sharing knowledge. Superb level of information. One little thing : in the description of the video, you are talking about Fabfilter (meaning "in this video, you'll show this", i guess). Even on the thumbnail picture of the video, you are using their logo to make your point "they don't know compression in Deesser". And then, when you arrive on Fabilter, you just says "i'm gonna keep this information for my students". A bit weird, in my opinion (and misleading). If you want to keep this information for your students, why talking about Fabfilter ? Please, be consistent, as you always ask consistency from the companies. ;-) Thanks, anyway.
Idk what the pro ds bug is but it seems to darken the vocal I usually manually de ess with clip gain the only plugin I’ve found that sounds good as a de esser is weiss

Phenomenal! Andrew is at a different level! And his course is the best thing in Music Production IMO.

I prefer to deal with sibilance, plosives, and breathing with manual gain adjustment automation, or manually in melodyne

Mr Zeleno, What do you have to say about Serban Ghenea mixing skills?? ... What's "wrong" in "his sound/mixing style"??
Wow! Great info. Tx
Thanks!
I remember the fabfilter default issue from the class😜☺️.
I'm gonna guess it's a too long lookahead time by default? I'm probably wrong, but who knows... 😅

Please tell me, which deessers would you recommend using then? Will Metric Halo Deesser or HOFA IQ-Deesser be okay?
It's a long story and something what I keep for students.

The relase is not there to stay untouched at default setting.... why dont you judge the plugins in a proper setting instead ??
Nice point but the consumer won't detec this
Then don't process the sound with plugins. Most consumers will not hear any difference.
The only question what we see and what we process - is it the same?
Because UI and processing are 2 separate world and can be completely different in fact.
but I proved it by ears. Didn’t you watch?
Nice
Thanks
Seems like the best thing to do is simply lower the gain manually on your sibalent spots
Are there any good affordable deessers ?
Congratulations on the knowledge thanks for sharing bro rescuing us from Babylons salesmen of snake oil lol
