Akitas are not for first time or inexperienced dog owners. While being highly intelligent they are also VERY territorial and don’t bond well with anyone outside of their family. To prevent this it will take HOURS of socializing with an owner that is equally energetic and an owner who is social. On the other side if you are wanting and extraordinary guard dog, and Akita is the best way to go! Get them as pups introduce them to every living being from day one and keep letting them socialize with them. They will know that they are family and will die trying to protect them. Akitas are amazing companions but not for the lazy dog owner.
@rsjrx no not like Akitas. If you do not introduce them to other people at a young age, they will not be okay with anyone but who's in your house. You will never be able to have guests again without locking them away. They have an extreme sense of loyalty and are naturally guard dogs. It's not nearly the same thing as say a lab. And even then it's not a guarantee, they might still hate other people and animals. It's just their genetics, all breeds have different traits and genetics if you didn't know. I grew up with Akitas and my parents bred them for a while, not for necessarily money but because they were hard dogs to get in my area. You had to go across state to the Amish, who treated them like shit.
They're also guard dogs so they need lots of socialization with people and other dogs from the get-go and do not let up on it. Theyre naturally apprehensive so you have to teach them that not every non-family member is their enemy. Theyre big dogs that can seriously hurt someone innocent in a misguided attempt at protecting you or your property so be sure to be prepared and research before getting one!
And even with all of that, they still being Very, VERY proud, and suspicious about others, you cant have an Akita from a gender, and a dog of the same gender, otherwise the akita will fight with him all the time, the only exception is: the other dog is very small, or he is old
The family dog is part Akita, Chow, and German Shepard. She’s the most loyal, calm, and loving dog you’ll ever meet. She’s smart and gentle and even let the littles use her as a step stool without moving. She escaped the backyard once when a little was in the front yard and she was following him as if ready to yank him out of the road. She is very sweet and just an amazing pet. My dad doesn’t think he’ll be able to get another dog once she goes..
I grew up with akitas and I love them so much, they definitely shaped my idea of what the perfect dog is. Not an easy dog to own or train, but a fantastic dog nonetheless
Oh I’d love to own an Atika dog. I met a couple of them in our neighborhood. They were so friendly, so neighborly. They saw me open my back door, as they were outside laying in their driveway. I didn’t say a peep, when they spotted me, they came right over. When my neighbor whistled for them, they returned home in a flash. It was such an unexpected lovely surprise and a moment I’ll never forget.
Aww, the same breed as Hachiko! (For those wondering Hachiko, or Hachi, was a dog in Japan. When his owner died, not returning from work, he still waited for 10 years until death for his owner to return. His statue stands tall where he waited everyday.)
Important to note that Akitas tend to be a protective but aggressive breed. They will be kind and loyal to their owner but can view everyone surrounding them, (close family, friends, partners and even their owners children) as a threat. Of course every Individual dog has their own temperament but it is generally a bad idea to have them around children. And this is coming from someone who grew up with Akitas
Not exactly, they are ultra loyal to the family core, not only the owner, if he was raised by 3 people, he would choose one owner to give absolute loyalty, but would fight for the other 2 too
Much like many. The breed is a national treasure because of one loyal dog, Hachikō. It’s worth noting the professor, who the dog was loyal to. Happened to have a student come across the loyal dog. To which the student looked up to see how many Akita’s were left in Japan… 20 were left including, Hachikō. Talk purebred. They recently added a statue to show the dog and his human companion reuniting.
Akitas are NOT dogs for inexperienced owners. They can be stubborn and hard to train, as well as being aggressive towards strangers and other animals. Properly trained and socialized they can make a wonderful companion though.
My family had an Akita for a good while. Lost the old boy end of last year, I miss him dearly (even though he'd produce an endless steam of fur). We were exceptionally lucky to receive such a kind and gentle soul, singlehandedly fixed my wierd irrational fear of dogs. Best cuddle buddy I've ever had. Miss you Pooch.
My friend has an Akita who is two months old. He is ginormous and very cuddly. although this is true, he is still a puppy and tries to bite us quite a bit. But it is so difficult to get mad at him because he is adorable and just wants to love us. But most pups bite so that's not even his fault.
While everyone is also saying they are wary overly protective and stubborn, Akitas also do not do well with dogs of the same gender or other dogs much at all. This dosent apply to all esp if properly trained but most. Just make sure to do research
I know a man who was attacked at a park by two akitas. It was so bad he had to be air lifted to hospital, two weeks prior the dogs had attacked and killed another dog. These dogs are not for first-time owners and A LOT of work needs to put into making them social. I love big dogs, always have, always felt comfortable with them but if I ever see an Akita, I always feel weary.
I had a Akita named bear we got him in 2009 and at the time I was only expecting a small puppy but when he came home he was almost full size but only 6 months old and I was super surprised but I loved him, I was with him pretty much every single day, he got me through some tough stuff but then august of 2022 hit and he passed away, he was struggling with walking at his age at that point so my family made the hard decision to put him down, I miss that dog so much
It's funny that you guys say that. I have two girls they been with each other for four years now. I have no problems with them. Before never owned one last time I had a dog, I was 7. So it depends on the person and time willing to train them. Dog aggression is still there but controllable.
I really wanted a Japanese Akita but there are no breeders in Maryland I didn't see any in Pennsylvania or any other states close by so I settled for an American Akita and I love my baby boy do does get a bit annoying when people try to tell me he's mixed with a Husky and German Shepherd or German Shepherd in something lol
I mean... American Akitas do indeed have a lot of "mixed" blood, since the breed is very young and only came about because the Akita was mixed with different breeds, including German Shepards and Mastiff type dogs. But I get ya, we have a brindle Akita Inu and people often assume that he's a mix or a "designer dog" haha. And people always questioning like "Are you SURE? He looks like XYZ." xD
Keep in mind that they can easily become dog-aggressive (and even human-aggressive, in extreme cases) if not trained properly and consistently. So make sure you spend lots of time training! And always try get your Akita as a puppy. Adoption as adults rarely works well, because they are one-owner dogs. They don’t tend to accept more than one person as “their person”.
They only bond to one person. If you’re that person you have to train it (they need an experienced owner or else they’ll turn to be aggressive towards everyone and everything but their one owner), if not then you begged for a dog who’ll want no interest in you 😂😅
Loyal REALLY LOYAL, so loyal in fact that they would probally wait for their owner at a train station for almost ten years after they died for the owner to come out just saying yk,HOLY SH-
There is an old anime where the main character is an Akita Inu. The main villain is a massive bear. And the whole anime builds up to this dog leading an army of dogs to fight said bear. It's old but still freaking gold. Ginga Nagareboshi Gin. Also has the best damn intro of any anime I have seen so far.
I have an Akita-Husky mix called Aika. She's turing 18 this year and she's the sweetest, most affectionate and stubborn dog we've had! An escape artist in her youth, she'd climb the wire fence just to run 3 kilometers to my school to go back home with me when I finished the school day. She did that so often that the school gave up on trying to keep her from school grounds. Helps that she never did anything to other kids at the school and in 5 years of her doing that the only casualties was a sandwich the groundskeeper left on his chair and a fir tree sapling 😂
I love seeing everyone akita being super energetic, my akita is just lazy and maybe does a 20min walk and then decides enough is enough and just lays down.
if you're willing to invest a lot of effort into it, you might be okay. but you absolutely must, and i never normally say this, get the puppy as young as possible so that it can be socialised not to harm your other dogs (and also humans). they take a huge amount of patience and care, so as long as you can spend most of your time raising and training them you might make it work. you will have to take time off of school/work/college/whatever if you're serious about this, and you don't just want an akita because you saw a 1 minute vid and thought they were cute.

- very stubborn, if she is done with training she is (but I always push the bar a bit so she knows I'm the leader)
- can get very hyped and lose control when zooming, she is already heavy and strong, so if she jumps on me it hurts, if she does too rough i pin her down, and that was enough to teach her to be gentle with me but rough with my husband
- overall lazy and 2 small walks a day is enough
- likes play but doesn't last long

@@delavidaebella no, the one we hav barely barks except when she hears stranger passing nearby outside :)
Love you Hachiko
They're so beautiful! 😍
"But don't let their fluffy appearance fool you. Beneath all that fur is even more fur."
I miss my Akita, he was such a good boy. Rest easy, Rocky.
I have a shiba & his name is Rocky, sorry for your loss
All of Japan’s いぬ breeds are so cool.
I love Akitas. Just be respectful 😅 as you should be with any dog bred for loyalty. They'll hardly listen to you if you aren't their person
Another Akita fact is that they are one of the oldest dog breeds that still lives dating all the way back to 14,000 BCE
Best dog breed no matter what you have it for . Period
They are also temperamental and territorial around other dogs. They can be quite difficult to train and despite their loyalty can be standoffish.
I have an Akita! They’re so sweet and fun to play with!!
Akitas are just so CUTE 🥰
I got bit by an Akita when I was a kid and I’m not scared of any other dogs but dogs that look like akitas
Instantly reminded of Hachiko... 💖🐶💖
They're family for sure
Shiba Inu: *i am sleep*
Akita Inu: *circular zoomies*
They're still adorable
hatchiko.. :'D
That's what I was thinking
Don't remind me😢
I have one, she's a real gem
My family had an Akita, she was one of the best pets to ever live.
Not exactly, they are ultra loyal to the family core, not only the owner, if he was raised by 3 people, he would choose one owner to give absolute loyalty, but would fight for the other 2 too
I love Akitas❤❤❤❤❤. Most special and intuitive dogs that are deeply loving!!!
Love all dogs, but I think Akitas and Shibas are among those who have cutest smiles, ranging from sincere to extremely malicious
Come on guys, we all know what's going on in our heads....
Good doggo
I just kept saying “look at the baby”
Goodest of the boyes
Yes
@@dafuq2445 ever heard of the story of Hachiko?
I was thinking more like 'doge'
Everytime I see a Akita I can’t help but to think about Hachiko
They're also the progenitor of the breed that later became the Australian Dingo.
Thank you for posting this very interesting fact ❤❤❤❤
The playful part was ...... Damnn !
I love akitas so much man
Why are japanese dogs so cute
I don’t know but they almost went extinct as a breed.
@@benpurcell4935 which breed you're talking about?
@@btsismyoxyjin2013 Pretty much every Japanese breed was almost euthanized to the point of extinction.
@@benpurcell4935 oo....ok
So cute! They must be adorable to have!
Hachiko❤️
You made my day I love doges❤
Along with being insanely stubborn and independent to a fault. They are like cats, if they don't want to do something, they won't do it
Ahh, so a Japanese husky
What's with Japan & the cutest dogs ever?
Akitas are NOT dogs for inexperienced owners. They can be stubborn and hard to train, as well as being aggressive towards strangers and other animals. Properly trained and socialized they can make a wonderful companion though.
i have an akita german shepard, he is 7 now, and is absolutely the best dog there is.
Just basically the perfect beings. Yeah
I love Akita inu and shiba inu❤
I love my AKITA the only dog I would ever get
There was literally an Akita that waited 9 years for his owner to return at the train station
If that isnt loyalty idk what is
They should also be known to be extremely temperamental dogs that will put their own goals before yours.
i would know because i have one and she is such a sweet heart
My dog running around like a wind-up toy after a laser dot
Me: ah, yes, the majestic house-wolf, a truly fearsome sight.
I love my akita
Akita, the thicc boi of Shiba inu.
Hachiko!!!! ❤
One time our Akita took the bag with her treats an opend IT with her paws.😅
Damn🤣🤣
Akitas and Shibes are adorable. They're also like Dragons in ASOIAF, where they bond to one person for as long as one or the other might live.
According to every youtube vide about dogs, every single dog is intelligent
I never heard "its a stupid dog" 😅
Every dog is intelligent if you train it right
But stupid dogs are cute too
Well, that's true, but there are levels, Akita is on the top, with german shepherds, border colies, and goldens
I had a Akita named bear we got him in 2009 and at the time I was only expecting a small puppy but when he came home he was almost full size but only 6 months old and I was super surprised but I loved him, I was with him pretty much every single day, he got me through some tough stuff but then august of 2022 hit and he passed away, he was struggling with walking at his age at that point so my family made the hard decision to put him down, I miss that dog so much
give me the dog now.
N o w .
I owned one despite he's so stubborn but he's a superbly loyal dog 🐕😊
I started to like this dog after I watched the movie or heard the story of Hachiko
I want Akita❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ and so cute 🥰🥰❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I KEEP ASKING MY MOM FOR ONE SHE FINALLY SAID YES
Aww so happy for you😊
Keep in mind that they can easily become dog-aggressive (and even human-aggressive, in extreme cases) if not trained properly and consistently. So make sure you spend lots of time training!
And always try get your Akita as a puppy. Adoption as adults rarely works well, because they are one-owner dogs. They don’t tend to accept more than one person as “their person”.
Be careful. Akitas are NOT recommended for a first time dog owner. Bred for guard duty. They tend to have human and dog aggression..
They only bond to one person. If you’re that person you have to train it (they need an experienced owner or else they’ll turn to be aggressive towards everyone and everything but their one owner), if not then you begged for a dog who’ll want no interest in you 😂😅
@@testerwulf3357 so helpful! Repeating what two other people have already said, but adding some snarky, condescending bullsh** to the end. How nice…
Loyal REALLY LOYAL, so loyal in fact that they would probally wait for their owner at a train station for almost ten years after they died for the owner to come out just saying yk,HOLY SH-
Always that one person getting a shiba or Akita in Florida
There is an old anime where the main character is an Akita Inu.
The main villain is a massive bear.
And the whole anime builds up to this dog leading an army of dogs to fight said bear.
It's old but still freaking gold.
Ginga Nagareboshi Gin.
Also has the best damn intro of any anime I have seen so far.
Akita's give me straight up Huskey and Shiba mix vibes
I have an Akita-Husky mix called Aika. She's turing 18 this year and she's the sweetest, most affectionate and stubborn dog we've had!
An escape artist in her youth, she'd climb the wire fence just to run 3 kilometers to my school to go back home with me when I finished the school day. She did that so often that the school gave up on trying to keep her from school grounds. Helps that she never did anything to other kids at the school and in 5 years of her doing that the only casualties was a sandwich the groundskeeper left on his chair and a fir tree sapling 😂
Shibas and akitas are my 2 favorite dog breeds
Cute little fluffy ball 🥰
I love seeing everyone akita being super energetic, my akita is just lazy and maybe does a 20min walk and then decides enough is enough and just lays down.
Same thing happened with my husky. I walk him at night but, every other hour of the day he is laying around me
That's correct, they are semi-sedentary dogs, and dont eat too much
Akita dogs are cute ❤❤
Literally me on my way to tell my parents that i want another dog:
Do not
They are not good with other dogs or other people
Don't, speaking from experience. They are difficult dogs to keep

if you're willing to invest a lot of effort into it, you might be okay. but you absolutely must, and i never normally say this, get the puppy as young as possible so that it can be socialised not to harm your other dogs (and also humans). they take a huge amount of patience and care, so as long as you can spend most of your time raising and training them you might make it work. you will have to take time off of school/work/college/whatever if you're serious about this, and you don't just want an akita because you saw a 1 minute vid and thought they were cute.
Their so floofy and cute
Aren't Akitas one of the breeds that are barred by insurance companies for homeowners/renters' coverage? The only Akita I ever met was a neighbor's. He killed a couple of other neighbor's dogs. Master of escape. A friend had one that never got used to the family. Maybe they wanted to stay in northern Japan.
I'll bet the neighbor's dogs were making trouble first.
@@brianmclaughlin4419 Not unless sitting in the sun in their front yard is troublemaking, lol. The akita's human saw it happening and tried to stop it, but akita's are strong. And bull headed.
@@grovermartin6874 My Japan-type baby girl followed a giant, retarded male Akita in a yard escape.Took themselves for a walk after he demolished a new cedar fence and got jumped by a vicious Rotti that had killed other dogs. The baby, at 6 months did the bully in while being watched by 2 animal control officers. Took1 second per them. They Told me' thank you '. I got in no trouble. 100% self-defense is my view w/ them.
Yes these dogs are not for first time owner! There’s a lot of missed info on this video. Akitas only like their family and are not dog or ppl friendly.
@@brianmclaughlin4419 Akitas can be VERY aggressive to strangers and other animals..especially so when not trained properly (they need highly experienced dog owners! But no one checks for that so some people get them without being able to handle them)
This dog give him a award for being too cute
Akitas are unpredictable. I have had many bad experiences with them. They will attack without warning and for no apparent reason.
They’re loyal to usually only person which causes them to be more likely to be human and dog aggressive..they attack others because they don’t trust anyone but their owner (they’re a hard breed to train! Only experienced dog owners should own them however sadly not all that own these dogs are experienced enough to properly handle them)
@@testerwulf3357 do u have one? just wanted to ask and i have one
They likely weren't socialized from a young age.
I have an Akita they do be cute fire and giant lap dogs
Seeing this just makes me cry because I just lost my dog who I loved very very much
He was a huskita that I had just over a year and I’m still upset over having lost him 😢😢😢😢❤❤❤
