Absolutely legendary performance. It makes me even sadder that London didn't showcase Heavy Metal at the 2012 Olympics. Given that a strong argument can be made for Britain being the genesis point for a lot of the sound and themes that would be associated with Metal as a genre
What a missed opportunity! Think of the bands: Sabbath, Maiden, Zep, Floyd… If it ever came to the UK again, BMTH could be a great shout for heavy music given how huge they are today.

We Christians have given ourselves a bad reputation for allowing others to call themselves Christians while doing pretty much everything Jesus explicitly said no to. I think it’s too bad they got dragged into that other crap. That was a crazy set for them to perform on (for any band) and really, the only part of the opening ceremony I actually liked.
The biggest problem with listening to Andrew Tate is listening to Andrew Tate.
It was a history lesson set to heavy-metal. Hell, I’m American, and I know that.

I think they'd have a heart attack if they listened to actual satanic metal. This was literally nothing: nice little chug with some operatic spice. Very cool and very tastefully performed.

Well, I wouldn’t say metal isn’t Satanic. It’s pretty easy to find Satanic metal nowadays, and it’s been around for decades. It’s just not in the mainstream metal.

And that wasn't about da VInci's "The Last Supper". da Vinci was actually visually inspired by preexisting depictions of the Greco-Roman god Dionysus/Bacchus. The performance referenced the pre-Christian values of the Pagan-era Roman Empire.

I saw it as a long time metal fan and someone who has listened to Gojira for years this was epic! I totally loved the French revolution references and the way the set up the performance!!! I showed it to a friend of mine who is not a metal fan he unfortunatly didn't think the same he thought it was tooo show offy and too much fire and he didn't get the French revolution references at all. I did like a face palm 😅

I really dont understand why people mix metal / rock with satanism. Yes its aggressive. Yes its loud. Yes its heavy. But thats what makes it a unique sound to be able to show to the world your thoughts and emotions.
Likely because the black metal side of things had and has satanism as a dominant topic for quite some time. Also in the US in the earlier days of metal, the music was a medium for a counter-culture in opposition to the hypocritical arms of evangelical christians. It was a medium to be edgy and opposing. so there's precedent for those views. Not that they are right, but the precedent that allows the conclusions are there.

I live in a town with a deep Portuguese and South American population. Any time I wear Gojira, Rammstein, or other larger metal band shirts around town they compliment it and the bands.

Gojira was not satanic at all, it was badass and I look forward to seeing them in September during their tour. The last supper part though was horrible and the participants in the stunt being happy with the backlash shows that it was a mockery meant to insult people of the Christian faith.

This was a depiction of a Greek celebration. This had nothing to do with the Bible. All one had to do was a little research. There is no way that modern Christians could possibly be this stupid, and confuse two completely unrelated events.

@primordial radio I lean more rock than metal in my music preferences. Despite my preferences Gojira absolutely killed it! Great performance and video; they deserve all the success they have coming to them. I'm happy for them.

As a Christian , who just like all humanity Is a sinner, I don't find Gojira's performance satanic. The rest of the Olympic ceremony was an attack on Christianity. I don't argue with peoples right of expression but I am not watching the games. Again to all artists please don't defame my saviour.

The passage of Gorija has nothing "satanic" at most I do not see the interest in making fun of "the head" of Marie Antoinette who was locked up in this building under false accusations of pedophilia perpetuated against her own son before being guillotined was in questionable taste. On the other hand later, this interminable painting on the bridge imitating "the scene" with this child in the middle of adults in hyper sexualized outfits, one of whom is placed right next to the child miming the throat-slitting is at the very least "vomit-inducing".

Maybe I have only partially been paying attention, but I thought the controversy was around that artistic live rendition of what looked to people like Da Vinci's Last Supper. I think Gojira was just catching strays, which is unfortunate, because they were incredible.
But even that controversy is ridiculous. They were looking for a reason to criticize the drag and latched onto the last supper. The same people criticize the depiction of the headless Marie-Antoinette in the window. I don't usually like metal, but I thought this scene was amazing. I actually loved the whole opening ceremony!

France has been invaded so many times in history. Much French humor involves death and macabre elements. It's how a sane person deals with centuries of insanity. So yes, it's very much a reflection of history and humor. You can either be consumed by the darkness, or chuckle about it. I'm also a devout Catholic and Gojira fan.
When The Number of the Beast debutted, the argument turned out to be the same. I hope that we can get as an outcome the very same quality level of music as we got in the first half of the 80s
