  • Hey guys,
Video two of our Canning Series. This week we stumble upon some of the most epic camp sites we have been too around Australia. We hike through thick bush to a hidden Pool and hit the dune country. Things only get harder from here

When did you guys go? We just finished the Canning the 21st of July. South to North. The oldest cars on the track, an 88 All Leaf Patrol GQ Ute and a 92 All Leaf 75 series Troopy.
Definitely a bucket list adventure! I think I'd like to return and do North to South next time but the floods changed the plan.
The land changing out there is amazing especially the wild flowers.
It is sad about hearing that a man passed away the other day though. Whoever created that link track from 43 to 44 created a real dangerous mess. We didn't even realise it was a link track until we realised the track was based off bearings and all the dune approaches were straight on. Just glad we were ahead of the pack and doing it at last light after we had overtaken everyone with the first convoys going South still not on the track yet.
Oh and I found using a snorkel sock then turning the snorkel onto a 45 degree angle facing the windscreen resulted in my air filter being perfectly clean and my snorkel sock not ripping on the bush along the side of the track.
18 litres per 100 on both cars, Both new tyres BFG K02s no punctures or problems but Bridgestone 697 A/Ts with heaps of sidewall and a few tread punctures, both sets 285 / 75 r 16. Both cars NA Diesels and on Club Reg. The track is beyond all belief ridiculously brutal to the cars so make sure everything is in serviceable order. We found rust holes appearing where there were none before. Just go do it, if our old beaters can do it likely you can too, the difference is the old beaters will not completely breakdown in most cases like new cars. People are anal about radios and sandflags so be aware of that. Most people are retirees over 60 in brand new or near new cars. A tip is to place your sandflag somewhere between the edges of your radiator as the bush along the track rips flags off, we found two strays on the ground and had to drill and add more zip ties to our Bushranger flags. We did the track in 9 Days same as Drifta, but would advise 14 if you can do it. You want to spend more time on the southern section as its quite simply nicer with more functioning wells and more money invested in signage. 200km a day is achievable especially in the North as it's dunes but in the South it's like the high country and 150km a day. But we wanted to get off due to the amount of issues arising but that's what happens in old cars. 100% would say aim for 100km a day in the south with 8-9 days budget and then 4-5 days from Bililuna to Kunawarritji which is around 800km but Kunawarritji to Wiluna is a full 900 km plus you need some reserve for taking wrong turnoffs or new detour alternate track routes you have to take like well 3 to well 5a/well 6. It's the perfect track that encases all types of driving, you can be in an open section and all of a sudden change from a high gear to being 1st doing axle twisters through dry creek beds and rock gardens/steps then hit sand dunes around the next bend. Oh and fuel is $3.00 per litre for Diesel but a week before it was $3.30 most likely due to the floods in Bililuna and Kunawarritji. Oh and lastly your car is going to get scratched to pieces so either take an old car, get it wrapped or expect to respray if you don't like a thousand pinstripes down the side of the car.

Thanks for a great series team, I'm enjoying all of it. I am highly unlikely to ever get to do it myself so I will travel along with you guys. I've learned over many of your videos you come from Tumut. I lived there for a few years for start up of the Visy Mill and made many friends during that time. I haven't been back for a while but still make irreglar visits and keep in contact with my closest friends. Also good news we are now getting Batlow Apples in stock at the Bris Vegas local fruit and veg stores, so good to see them making a strong comeback.

The side with all the dirt and pollen isn’t the side to worry about, it’s the other side being clean. The 70’s have a notoriously bad air box from factory.

Nice drone shots, dirt also is a good coagulant to stop bleeding!😉😁.. love how you’ve fitted in a leaf blower, vacuum cleaner, clothesline, when are the garden ornaments coming out, brush cutter, log splitter(petrol), you talked about heavier suspension, maybe look at a heavier vehicle, medium to heavy rigid, something like Christopher on Aussie Salvage😀. But you seem to be enjoying yourself a bit more.
