11 months labrador retriever staffordshire terrier mix puppy and he started to be very fussy in the crate. I put him into the crate after I play with him, train him, and walk him, he starts barking for 5 -10 mins before he settled. No clue where he went wrong.

umboarr2010, you might want to revisit your puppy's schedule to make sure he's getting enough physical AND mental exercise. Have you heard of our new schedule mini course? It includes a sample schedule for dogs of his age that will be a great resource for you! courses.howtotrainadreamdog.com/puppy-schedule-mini-course
We are glad you liked it, Carolyn! You and Abby have really come a long way while working through the course. We love seeing you on Zoom calls each week!
Got a huge problem and no clue why it happened. I had a dog that was well kennel trained for over a year. Hes still only 1.5 years old. But when my in laws visited for 2 weeks, they broke his pattern. He didnt go in to the kennel for 2 straight weeks, whereas he used to run in there and wait for a treat when you said kennel a few times a day. Now suddenly, hes horrified of it. And he wont even eat at all when hes in there. Even if its a steak or something great. He acts nervous and has that guilty look the entire time hes in there now too. Give you a little more info, for some reason every time i got home when my mother in law was here, he would run underneath her like he was in trouble and hide from me. No clue where that came from either. I feel like him chewing up his bed in the kennel around that time made him scared to go in there because he thought hed get in trouble and that, plus never having to go in there for 2 weeks has just snowballed in to him losing all of the work of making him enjoy being in there for treat time. I wish i knew what he thinks hes in trouble for but im at a loss on this one. He was also a rescue pup @ 9 months old, but he's always been pretty happy go lucky. And the only times he ever gets me to raise my voice at him was when he would chew on stuff when he was a few months younger. Hes never done anything else to get in trouble and he listens well. Edit: Oh my gosh!!!! Crazy update!! And it was just after I typed that last one!!! I went to go try a few things after watching your video, and my 6 year old Poodle just gave me a brilliant idea!!! The poodle walked in there to get the pups treat since he wouldn't go. So then I kept handing the poodle more and more treats. 😆 🤣 suddenly the pup goes in there on his own!!! Jealousy got that fear out!! I'm going to keep trying that.
My puppy seems to absolutely lose her mind and PANIC the second she realizes the door is closed I have been putting her food in there and she can go in there and get put in there no problem but the second the door is closed or held closed she FREAKS She goes in there for every nap and gets closed in there for every nap but the second she's awake and sees the door closed she panics When she sees the door is closed she immediately starts screeching and digging at the door and walls
It sounds like you'll need to work on desensitizing the door closing process so she feels better about it. We can help you with that as part of our mini course on crate training. courses.howtotrainadreamdog.com/crate-training-course
Crate training is a life long skill, and I'm so grateful to HTTADD for helping us get Bitsy totally comfortable in her crate. We've moved her into a bigger one and she took to it without any fuss!
I have a 12 week old Maltipoo. The first nights on his crate he slept with no problem. But these past few days he has been having accidents in his crate. I make sure to take him out to potty before bed time but it keeps happening. Could it be the schedule?
Good thinking, Lia! Yes it sounds like he's a heavy sleeper so you might need to set an alarm to take him out to prevent an accident. It won't be this way forever, but maybe a few more weeks.
When the puppy is young and still new to the crate, we recommend all naps and nights in the crate (as long as there's no panic). After the dog is older and crate training is fully established, you can start to allow naps in other places if it works well in your household.
Hi Michelle! Can you make a video on how to train a puppy to like car rides and how long the rides can be? I wonder when I can take my puppy on a 2 hour drive. I suspect that it’s after 1 year :(
We have a video that's perfect for you! There's no age requirement for longer car rides. It's all about your dog's comfort level. Check out that video here. ruclips.net/video/npvb4dk8hxs/видео.html
The snuggle puppy is a soft toy that has a heartbeat and warmer inside. It's best for very young dogs who are leaving their mama and littermates. It can mimic the feel of littermates and help them feel more comfortable being alone. Here's a link to one: www.howtotrainadreamdog.com/snuggle_puppy

We have a 7mo Welsh terrier puppy who is sleeping thru the night fine. The problem is he will bark crazily when he is in his crate at other times during the day. We have him in his crate when we eat, when we are gone, and when we can’t watch him. Help!
Our crate training mini course has the games that you can use to help your puppy love the crate even when he's awake. Check it out here! courses.howtotrainadreamdog.com/crate-training-course
Should my 9 week old puppy stay in her crate while I am at work, or can I have her in a small dog pen? I come home during my break midday to let her out, play, potty, and eat. I worry she is in her crate too much throughout the day and then Im trying to train her to sleep in the crate as well. She really doesn’t like her crate right now, and she is not interested in the treats I try to give her for reward.
Dogs should always be in the crate when you are away from home. This keeps the dog and your home safe. However, a 9 week old puppy has a lot of needs so you'll probably need to line up some extra help to drop in on her. You also don't want to put her in the crate if she's not comfortable in there, so you could be creating more of a negative association. If you can't put her in the crate yet, you can use the pen, but you'll still need someone to take her out very frequently so she doesn't have accidents and create a habit of going potty inside. This video can help you! ruclips.net/video/Vcl33se8dEA/видео.html
I’m trying so hard with our 14 week but he goes BANANAS in the crate. He will literally try to breakout. He is too smart for his own good. Learned sit and a ton of basic commands in seconds. If he even senses I’m going towards the crate he will not budge. What do I do?$?!
This will take time and training him to love the crate. We do the training in small increments with fun games designed to help him love it. During this time it will be critical to avoid negative experiences in the crate (like crying, barking, scratching at the door, etc). No learning takes place if he's in panic mode and if he has negative experiences in the crate your training will be undone. The games to work on this are in our training program: www.howtotrainadreamdog.com/30-days-to-puppy-perfection
Hi there, our pup is 9 months old and she seems to like the crate less and less. When I tell her to go in it, she runs away and I have to chase her around the house! I try putting in special treats (chicken breast) but she’ll only go in voluntarily to eat them if I’m far away. 😂 Any tips?
It sounds like you'll need to work on this with the fun training games designed to help her feel comfortable in there, even when she's awake. You can find those here: www.howtotrainadreamdog.com/puppy-perfection-course-learn-more/
I got a 5 1/2 month old Weimaraner puppy from a puppy mill. I feel like I paid her ransom and rescued her. She was not socialized but is quickly coming around. She is terrified of her crate , it’s a large size. I feed her and put treats in her crate and if I sit down in view she will eat nervously and I can close the door. She starts to panic if I leave her line of sight. She paws at the bars . I’m afraid she will injure herself. I think she has scars on her feet possibly from her previous incarceration. When I hear her pawing I return and sit down and wait for her to stop . Then I let her out . I’ve been just leaving her loose in my room with my other crated dog if I have to go out. She doesn’t tear anything up. Yet . I sometimes will find pee and poo on my floor when I get home. My other dog loves her crate and will nap in it by choice. I don’t know how to crate train her to like her crate and do not want to further traumatize her. She’s been sleeping in the bed with me. Help!
It sounds like you're on the right track by trying to make it a positive place for her, but if she's panicking in the crate we need to try a different approach. She's not going to learn to love it by repeatedly having scary experiences in the crate. We can help you with this step by step guide to crate training. You'll learn how to detect panic, what to do about it and how to do the games in a positive way so she learns to love it. courses.howtotrainadreamdog.com/crate-training-course
I have an 8mth old puppy, she is half Jack Russell and Pug. She absolutely dislikes the crate or being confined. She howls for about 15 or 20 minutes. We are struggling to get her to relax and enjoy the crate. Please help
We know the struggle! It can take some time to get your puppy used to the crate. You need to really focus on helping your puppy build their confidence in the crate. We just launched a mini course for those who are struggling with crate training. We'd definitely recommend it for you and your pup: courses.howtotrainadreamdog.com/crate-training-course

My puppy Coco is 7weeks she started sleeping in my daughter room since it was spring break now that school about to start I need her to sleep in the living room but she's will whine until someone comes to get her out and she'll probably be at home by herself for at least 5hrs. Help!!
At 7 weeks old she will probably not be able to go for 5 hours with a potty break, some food and exercise and engagement with humans. You might need to find a pet sitter or dog walker to come relieve her. This won't be forever but for her age it's important.
