An excellent point was made for the magnet location on the oil filter case. The bottom is not ideal for flow and the side would prob be optimal, so that any metal collected would not obstruct oil flow! Another PRO for the FilterMAG

The cheaper expensive magnet looks like the same one that Polaris Industries used for ATV cupholders without the sticker. Think I have one still.
Think a magnet would be better on the sides of the oil filter. The middle is where the oil returns right?

I have used microwave oven magnets for over 40 years.Big and extremely strong.

I think any magnet would help collecting any metal with the filtration media. Unless it's not metallic. I seen magnet oil pan drain bolts too.

The Harbor Freight/Amazon/eBay magnet would probably work better on the oil pan since it's flat. Trade off would be you keeping the metal in the pan instead of the filter. I would guess that if you removed the magnet before draining the oil, a lot of the magnetic debris should come out with the oil. I've always wondered about the oil filter magnets, so I, for one, am glad you made the video.

Depends on if you have sludge on the bottom of your oil pan. Even a new pan of mine had a sludge layer from the assembly lube and that sludge trapped a broken lifter clip with other debris as well. I've seen the FilterMAG results myself on multiple of my vehicles, same as picture on the box.

Also it will stick/magnetize to the pan metal somewhat. When you remove FilterMAG, metal is still stuck to the inside of the filter case. So unless you can be sure to get the magnet in the exact same location on the oil pan or can physically wipe it off.

Thanks! They make one that looks a washer. That fists where the filter screws into the engine, traps the metal coming into the filter. Keeping the oil filter material it self from getting as much metal in it.

Drain plug with a magnet has been around a long time. And they do pick up some stuff. A flexible magnet positioned on the side of an oil filter might actually help also . And, if you want , you can salvage an old big magnet off an old speaker and put it on the side of the oil pan. A 4 inch or bigger old speaker magnet will stay in place and not fall off unless you bounce the heck out of the vehicle. And if you're so inclined you can take a small 3 inch flat steel bar and stick it to the side of the oil pan using JB weld just under the speaker magnet. That'll support the magnet from slipping off. You can also try using one of those really strong fishing magnets . Just place it a little forward of the drain plug hole. Then remove it when you go to change your oil. With any luck the accumulated metal left there will follow the oil out as it drains. Of course, do this while the oil is still kinda hot for best results.

Got mag bars.2 per side. Drops of 180° glue to stop hopnswitch. After use I screwdriver pop them off. Next filter clean glue install.

If you had to glue them on, prob not working when HOT(operating Temp)

you could use magnets w/o the metal ring, and silicone the magnet to the filter canister. I think some manufacturers put magnets in the oil pan.

Got one I'm gonna tear apart for the magnet But it's going in my parts washer. Just watch out for the "Beryllium Oxide" in them, think it's the pink part.

Thanks for the Video.... I have used the magnets from a "Speaker" in the past. The hole in the center was a larger diameter so it fit the bottom better.... However...They didn't always make it to the "Next" oil change...And I suspect heat was the reason.... Thanks for the tip....Regards.

Bottom is not ideal placement anyway, not much flow down there. My bet is on the bottom they collect what settles between run time.

    1. Premium oil filters will catch all this. 2. Change your oil every 3k. 3. Oil plug magnets are fine if your anal.
Does anyone really want to take a chance when the filter goes in bypass to flush that crap out...

    • @BOOT
      @BOOT  9 месяцев назад +1

My filters are non-bypass(don't think any of my vehicles ever even used a bypass filter) and often block the engine filter adapter bypass for a SBC
