I have rented my fifth wheel camper 4X this summer so far. It has been a good deal so far this year. All times have been that I deliver and setup/teardown and bring it back. The pricing has been a bit of a learning curve as to what to charge. I have set a limit of 50 miles. Over that and I add a lot. I charge an hourly rate that I feel my time is worth and then a mileage rate. 165 miles one way cost an extra $400. It has been an average of one a month and makes the payment for me. Since it doesn't get used anyway, once a month is good.
Thanks for sharing from your experiences Jim. Our viewers look through comments like yours and are able to glean helpful information. We’re glad to hear that renting is working out for you.
I rented my 20 foot trailer. I got it rented a 9 times in 2020. The trailer now has all kinds of problems. I just think people treat rentals poorly (I know I used to) also, people who rent rvs really are not experienced. They simply just abuse it and return it. It's just not worth it anymore.....
Thank you so much for sharing from your experiences. Food for thought for our viewers to consider. There definitely can be some cons to renting. By us not allowing most to tow and us usually doing the set up and take down we have reduced our risk. But we are definitely not risk free! Thanks for watching!
I'm thinking about buying a used camper to just use to rent weekly I'm also really thinking about Saturday to Saturday only this is because I have a full time job and I'm only available on the weekends

Great question. Unfortunately I don’t have any experience renting with toy haulers so I can’t speak from experience. If there is a demand for toy haulers in your area, then maybe. Thanks for watching :)
Make sure you include the many reasons NOT to rent out your RV. And there are many. This is not some simple, lay back and count the money kind-of-thing. Been there - done that. Will probably never do it again....
Good point! Thanks for being transparent. Can you comment below on a couple examples for our viewers as many of them do look through the comments. I think I will do a video on that to balance things out. Please consider subscribing if you haven’t yet and thanks for watching :)
@@SilverLiningDayDreams As you know, most tenants are good, nice, honest, etc. But the few who aren't ruin it for everyone. Many have little respect for your stuff, your time, your anything. And sure, if your RV gets damaged, there's "insurance" out there - but similar to car insurance - you get in an accident - even if the other person is "insured" it doesn't mean it's a simple, get it fixed and move on with your life situation. Many insurance claims are DENIED (even though the situation is 100% legit.) AND if it gets damaged/repaired it's value goes down down down more. Let alone, if it gets damaged now you can't rent it out until it gets repaired or maintained, etc. That, and many people are dirty, smelly, don't clean up after themselves, etc - and the "landlord" has to do all of it - even though there are fees, etc - the landlord still has to spend the time doing it all. Let alone the before/after time of renting it out. Gotta be available to the tenant while they are gone. You can't really have a life while they are gone - because you want to be available to them. Then they say they are going to bring the RV back at 1:00pm. They don't show up til 8:00pm. Driver of the vehicle has no clue how to tow a "thing." And you don't realize this until they show up to take your baby for the weekend. If you are a busy person with kids at home, lots of honey-do projects, personal projects all the time, this sort of thing is probably not for you. These are just random examples. Many people HOPE that this is their ticket to financial freedom. Some are more realistic about it. It's not really a way to make money (net profit.) It's more of a way to have your RV paid for - but you still have to handle the repairs, maintenance, cleaning, servicing, etc etc etc. And the more it gets used, the more all of that is required. AND the value is going down down down due to so much wear / tear / cleaning / maintenance etc etc. I could go on for hours. It can be GOOD. CAN BE. But for many it becomes too much to deal with - especially if you rent it out frequently (as you hope to.) Probably good for a couple or single who has no kids at home (nor in college. LOL) And someone who has plenty of free time on their hands. Just my experience though. Be realistic about your expectations doing this.
Good points! Everyone needs to evaluate their own risk vs benefit comfort level with all things. For us we’ve had really good luck with our renters! Thanks for sharing!
I found this quote online “Researchers have found that infants who use more hand gestures at 18 months old have greater language abilities later on, indicating that talking with your hands could just be a sign of higher intelligence - at least where communication is concerned.” I find hand gestures to make conversation more passionate and are an important part of communication.. I personally tend to listen more when people articulate with both hand gestures and body language. Yes, I too tend to speak both verbally and with hand gestures. 😀
Thanks a million for this video
Your welcome!
Take care 😊
You are super informative - thank you so much.

Damage is always such a huge concern. Thanks for the encouragement!

I bought my camper when I was 22. I’m 23 now and am considering this for added income to pay for a house one day.
That’s awesome. Dream big! Thanks for watching:)

Is it better to rent out a toy hauler due to it being less of a liability? (way less mechanical problems)
Great question. Unfortunately I don’t have any experience renting with toy haulers so I can’t speak from experience. If there is a demand for toy haulers in your area, then maybe. Thanks for watching :)
Silver Lining Day Dreams ok, thanks for the feedback!
Great orator skills and valuable information.. having an RV that can pay for itself is a great way to go!
Thank you Shelley. Renting has really lessened the cost of ownership. More to come!
Great video! Very informative. I didn't realize you can earn extra money for set up and take down of the RV you're renting out. That's really awesome!
Thanks Rachel. More to come :)
Thanks Brad. Another informative video.
Jim Pohlson thanks! We love making them!

All of that hand motion make me dizzy

@Shelley Klock lol!
@Billy Bob sorry! Lol! I’m super expressive and I do tend to use my hands a lot when I’m talking! Haha!
