  • This is an instructional tutorial RUclips video lesson teaching my 5-string banjo version of the traditional public domain tune "Old Joe Clark" on 5-string banjo. As usual, I teach the instrumental tune lick by lick using on-screen tablature, then put it together -- slowly at first, then faster toward the end, adding guitar audio overlay, as well as guitar chords toward the end.
    Hear it played with guitar rhythm backup (slow, medium, fast) starting at 13:00.
    Free tab and play-along tracks at different speeds are available at my website, littlerockbanjo.com.
    I have posted this teaching video for instructional purposes only. Hope you enjoy.

    Hi! I just want to thank you for your amazing teaching-techniques. The way you explain makes playing the banjo more interesting, cause' you make it look simple and fun. Many other banjo-players sometimes "overdo" tunes I beleive...
    Also, the fact that you teach us your knowledge about the banjo for free (including tabs) is just great! Thank you once again!

    I have returned to this tune after a twelve month, and miraculously during this time it must have been subconsciously sinking in AS success! I can play it, so with this in mind I have revisited all the tunes I have learnt through Bills videos and WOW they have all sunk in ! I have been and do practice everyday, rolls slides, hammer ons , and bits of tunes, foggy mountain etc trying to build speed ( driving my wife mad) but now! Re discovering those early tunes I tried to learn it’s like something has just clicked, any one else found this? That leaving things for a good while, when going back to it , it’s just there? , I just love it, thank you Bill for your videos and all the supporting stuff you provide, regards

    Hey Bill your lessons are great!! Very easy to follow, but very cool up to speed. I notice that it seems like you play light-ish gauge strings... Seems like that gets the best "bluegrass" sound. You agree, or am I off the mark?

      @williamanesbitt  3 года назад

      I use the GHS Crowe set, "Stage" gauge. 10, 11, 12, 20, 10... pretty light.

    • @williamanesbitt

      It's just a parts banjo with an RB-75 neck... the rim and resonator are Kalamazoo and the ring is Blaylock. Rest is Gibson parts. Glad you enjoyed!

      Thanks a lot. I have a '97 Gibson parts banjo myself, that's why I was asking. Yours is a good one. I put a RB75 neck, Cox rim, Huber HR30 tone ring and a Fults tailpiece on mine several years ago. It is a stud hoss!! LOL Thanks again
