Hey Jim, thank you for everything you’ve done so far. I’ve always struggled with anxiety and meeting new people has always been hard but now that I can play the banjo all I have to do is sit outside and pick a little and people come up and talk to me about it. It has taken my anxiety away and I have made many new friends. I love you, keep doing what you’re doing.
Yet another tune that you play at a medium lick, and I think "no way!" But when you break it down into bite sized chunks it all magically becomes doable. You have a rare gift Mr Pankey
Hey Jim, I’m 15 and I just recently bought the banjo in March. I’ve been practicing everyday for at least 30 minutes, and your videos are a tremendous help. It’s more difficult to find videos on the banjo compared to more popular instruments like the guitar or the piano. I have grown to love the banjo every day, and I would like to say thanks. Keep up you good videos!!!
Hi Jim , I'm 78yrs old and just started learning to play the banjo. Your beginner videos are brilliant and I have learnt a lot from them. Thanks to you I am picking it up well. Many many thanks ❤
I really appreciate these lessons Jim. I pulled my banjo back out after about five years or so. I can go at my own pace and don't have to worry about trying to impress someone.................. Keep em coming~
Hey Jim. Like some others, I have pulled my banjo back out after about 20 years ( been working more on guitar and penny whistle). Back then I was able to get through many of the standard beginner tunes and now that I got it back out it is slowly coming back to me. I bought my first banjo when I was about 18. Now I am 59 and I wish I had of stuck with it all those years. Your lessons are helpful, especially on this Old Joe Clark version. I like that little Cripple Creek lick that ends part A.
Hey Jim, love that video. I just love hearing you play. That is a great format you are using, intro, breakdown, recap. It works well. I am learning clawhammer but I still learn something each time. Thanks brother.
I have just got to say. Thank you! I never thought I would learn 3 finger banjo. I seem to understand your lessons best. God bless you and thank you! I can now play the banjo!
Heya Jim, love your videos as always but I really appreciate the fact that you played the full at full speed for this one, gives me personally a better ear for the kind of sound/song I'm trying to learn. I'm trying to catch up on your more recent vids so I suggest doing what you did with this one here and give us a look at your insane talent at the start of the video. Keep up the amazing work, mate! Cheers from Australia and see you soon
Ole Joe Clark had a house, 16 stories high, and every story in that house was filled with chicken pie... Get along home, ole Joe Clark, get along home I say🎶 Get along ole Joe Clark, tomorrow's another day🎶🪕
My favourite part is always when you play the tune trough at the beginning... it's like magic when music SEEMS to come pouring effortlessly from a banjo. Have a great Christmas or whatever you do Jim :-)
I really like the option of the F-chord on the low part.....It sounds great.......I'm studying this melody......it's a pity that I can't play it fast.....but I will get there ....I hope 😊
Love your videos, Jim!! I've struggled with the banjo for months, with very little progress. Until I found your channel!! I've learned more in the past few weeks by following your channel than I had in mornths of trying to learn from others. Thanks for what you do!! Any chance you'd be willing to do a lesson for "Not if Nottingham" for the banjo?
Wow! Thanks for your reply!! The tune I'm talking about, Not in Nottingham, was written for the guitar by Roger Miller. There's a fellow here on RUclips named Moses Barrett who plays a version of it on the banjo. I thought if anyone could do a tutorial on how to play this song, it would be you. Your teaching style can't be beat.
These fiddlers and their key of A. It can't be that hard for them to play in the Key of G. I say this as I don't have the capo set yet, and it might take awhile before I do, as they come from the USA. Great lesson.
Jim, please make a tutorial for 'Sweet Home Alabama' as Im sure most subscribers are dying to learn this one. PS: Bless you, thanks to your videos I can now play Banjo. Regards.
@@JimPankey awesome that helps, tho i still struggle a lot with speed and timing of the notes i play :( it's like there's a wall that stops me from going faster, just like cripple creek, i can go to medium tempo but not rly over that
I have played this song many times and I can play it slow no problem.... It sounds nearly identical to you when you play it slow..... But..... It sounds nothing like the faster version when you play it. I can't figure out the timing. What's the secret?
It's ok. I always figure that the things I do aren't for everyone. Some people think I talk too much, or I don't have fancy enough split screen multi-camera setups with onscreen tabs. I'd love to have those things, but the main thing I want is for the folks that do like my videos is just to have a good time and learn a little banjo.

Music can do that! I've made a lot friends because of the banjo

It’s not so hard, is it? Knew you could do it. :)

It's great to hear about kids learning to play! I was 14 when I started. You'll have to post some videos of you're progress.
Dear mr Pankey, its so hard to find a banjo teacher in South Africa, this is the most wonderful gift!! Always wanted to learn this!! Thank you sir!!!!
Thanks for letting me help 😀

Very welcome!
Because of your video. I could pick the high part of this my first try. Now it's time to get that low part. Thanks Jim!
That's awesome! You should post a video once you have it down.
I really appreciate these lessons Jim. I pulled my banjo back out after about five years or so. I can go at my own pace and don't have to worry about trying to impress someone.................. Keep em coming~
Glad you're finally picking!
Awesome Jim, Thanks brother
Welcome!
My Mamaw was trying to teach me this song before she died. Thanks for posting. Brought back memories
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Thank you, Jim! I’ve really enjoyed learning this song and appreciate your straightforward approach and positive attitude.

That’s fantastic! Thanks for watching. 😊
One of my favorite tunes and you've done another great job of breaking it down for me. Thank you.

Oh... I try to keep the insanity under control. :)
Thanks for the kind words.
Thank you Jim! I would have never been able to play the banjo without you! Great Teacher!
Thanks for letting me teach you! 😊

Fun song!
Woah, didn’t even have to watch twice to get the hang of it, this will be a great one for my next jam session, thanks Jim
Awesome 😎

Have a great Christmas or whatever you do Jim :-)
Thanks. Merry Christmas!🎄
Another absolute belter Jim. Many thanks and keep doing what you're doing 😊
Glad you liked it!
Thank you so much. I am really excited to be able to play such a great tune! 😁
You're welcome. How's the tune coming?
Thanks for the lesson! I like you showed both chord options, I heard it mostly with the F but options are terrific.
I even add a C sometimes! :)
Excellent as always Jim thank you!
Thanks! ...and you're welcome!
Thank you Jim for another great lesson!
You're welcome!
If that's slow to medium tempo, I can't imagine what fast sounds like. Whew! I need to practice.
Just take your time. Speed will come.
Awesome tune. That banjo sounds awesome too! I really like my RK82.
Thanks. It's a good one for sure. I'm lucky to have it.

It’s a fun song! Keep picking, your speed will improve.
Easy to understand THANKS A BUNCH
Glad it helped!

G on the fiddle is about as easy as A on the banjo. ;)
I've made a capo from a short pencil and a rubberband. :)
Thanks Jim, your the best!
You’re welcome ☺️

Did this for a student, and it's mostly just notes for him without much explanation. Maybe it'll be helpful: ruclips.net/video/5OE8TFsTscQ/видео.html
Great vid
Thanks!
I love this verson of the tine.
Thanks 😊
Great video as always! I sometimes like going to the F but leaving strings 1 and 3 open doing the same roll. Kinda spooky soundin! 😉
I do that too! :)
Cool I love the song
Thanks 😊
Oh boy, this seems complicated for me 🤣 thanks for sharing!
me too! but hell, Jim's videos are fun anyways haha
Bookmark it and come back to it later. :)
Thanks Suzi!
Have a good time with this tune by substituting the D's with F's.
Yup, you could do that.
6:14 in this part instead of an hammer on i tried a slide, as it felt more comfortable. Is it still a correct move?
Sure thing! Most importantly is that YOU like how it sounds and feels.
@@JimPankey awesome that helps, tho i still struggle a lot with speed and timing of the notes i play :( it's like there's a wall that stops me from going faster, just like cripple creek, i can go to medium tempo but not rly over that
