    I always wanted one of those back then too. Great find!

      Yeah they are very distinctive I knew immediately when I saw it , thanks for the comment.

    I remember hearing one of those subs from out in the parking lot of an audio shop, I even checked the sky to see where the thunder was coming from. Really incredible sub, nice find and great repair. I'd have bought it on sight as well.

    I've wanted this sub since the early 2000s. Sucks that I've never been able to find one that was working.

      If you felt comfortable fixing one , that could be a good way 😀

    I remember those. They were sold in the more high end shops in Norway, and were quite pricey. I opted for a Yamaha YST SW 1500 instead. (Still have it)

    Throwing this out at all is a crime ong Shame they didn't realize they could just wire the sub up manually to a amp and crossover

    • @Sawdust_and_Circuits
      @Sawdust_and_Circuits  9 дней назад

      It was probably hitting max throw a few times, it was shaking everything in my garage , one thing you might be noticing is how nothing other than bass comes out that's a sign of a very clean crossover. Thanks for the comment 👍

      My sunfire true 12" i removed the amp...replaced the radiator because the wood split from the cone..with an earthquake radiator..
      Crown xls2500 runs is 90hz and below

    Hint. When fixing stuff, fire it up *before* you put all the screws in. That nasty distortion at the end needs to be attended to also.

      Some of the noise is the garage door , it was running a bass test also they can overextend a sub . Thanks for the comment

    We all know you tested it before you put it back together. I know I'd look at those 12 screws and think about testing it first.

    Where is the power supply? I don’t think that little low frequency transformer can powering this big subwoofer

    • @Sawdust_and_Circuits
      @Sawdust_and_Circuits  9 дней назад

      This brand was known for a high voltage amp circuit, the big current spikes come from the two large capacitors .

  • @keijojaanimets4460
    @keijojaanimets4460 9 дней назад

    Cant be much power with so small transformer...🤔

    • @Sawdust_and_Circuits
      @Sawdust_and_Circuits  9 дней назад +4

      it uses a capacitor driven amp at high voltage i believe the spec are something like 500w continuous and 2700w surge not bad considering

    • @childishtombino1275
      @childishtombino1275 9 дней назад +1

      @@Sawdust_and_Circuits All power amplifiers have some degree of capacitor power storage. 2700w peak is more likely.
      There's no chance it is sustaining that amount of power for any noticeable length of time. I even doubt 500w continuous just looking at the design. We all know that power delivery has very little correspondence to sound pressure output anyway...

    • @moffarocka3537
      @moffarocka3537 9 дней назад +4

      If I remember correctly, this subwoofer powers the amplifier directly from the mains. You can see the big bridge rectifier and cap on the rear panel.
      The small transformer only feeds the input stage which is isolated from the power amp using optocouplers

    • @childishtombino1275
      @childishtombino1275 9 дней назад

      @@moffarocka3537 Ahh now that's interesting. I've not seen this before, but would make more sense if the power specifications are true.
      I suppose there would be some pretty serious and foolproof limiter circuitry in place to make sure the driver isn't over-volted.

      It was making bass the range on this sub is very low like 75hz it was hitting extents a few times , I was running a bass test track, I used to build car systems smoked many a sub with those but wanted to show what is could do 😉

    Bob carver my have built the amplifier and power supply but he didn't build and design the actual subwoofer that being used in the sun fire subwoofers . Wich is also none to be one of the best designs and still really popular. The frame of the woofer used in lots of subwoofer and highly sought after. The builder was named telo stompler they call the speaker frame a TC he actually design most of the sun fire woofers from what i under stand. He's well none name to most car subwoofer buiders. 💯🫡😉👍✌️

      I heard some of the same still great info. I also noticed only a few sub where ever signed bob carver and not this one . The amp is strange because it's not widely used elsewhere 🙄

    • @josephsaucedo8691
      @josephsaucedo8691 7 дней назад

      @Sawdust_and_Circuits have you seen or heard of velodyne speakers they also make a similar style sub woofer with a small compact box model spl 12 and they also have use 1000w amp plate. I'd say there the closest in sound and build design. Both can play really low. The amp kinda reminds me of the Dayton audio amplifier . 💯👍👌

      Yes they mostly made front firing sub but they did have a kevlar one i believe
