Oh I miss my necchi Supernova Julia sooooo much! My Mum had one from brand new in 1962 and I found one in my local sewing machine shop second hand in the early 1980's. I used it regularly until the wiring burnt out in 2005 and I couldn't find anyone willing to re-wire it. Here it is in 2022 and I am about to buy a new (modern) machine tomorrow but if I could find another Supernova Julia I would buy that first, in a heartbeat! I made everything from wedding dresses, men's suits, my kids and my clothes from silks to heavy woolen coats and everything in-between. I used it for upholstery - re did my dining room chairs, all the seat covers plus sail covers and more on my friend's yacht, plus leather jeans, jackets and handbags as well. The best machine EVER!!! I even still have the instruction manual plus an advertising pamphlet used to sell this machine - PLUS all the cams for the fancy stitches and many other accessories that came with the machine. I just wish I could find another machine that comes close to how good this machine was.
I was fortunate ate enough to have a friend give me this exact model of machine. They don't make machines like thisany longer. I am blessed! Your video is EXCELLENT! Thank you, you are a FANTASTIC instructor! WELL DONE!
I have a Lelia 513. Great machine. When you thread the machine, the thread should go in the slot between the white front door and machine body before it goes to the needle not across the white door. Great info in your video.
Thank you so much for this video! I inherited one of this sewing machine from my grandma, and while she is still alive, we live in different cities and she is getting blind so she couldn't teach me how to use it. I've never used any sewing machine in my life and I was trying to figure it out on my own without any success . This video really helped me out, I was finally able to get it to work today!! It really means so much to me to be able to take on my projects with the same tools my grandma did so many years ago, thank you so much, my grandma will be so happy to hear this!
Melissa, thanks for the quick review of the operation of the Necchi. I just bought mine recently, so I’m still learning the details or using it correctly. Your video helps out tons. Thank you.
Thank you so much, your video has been a real helper for my mother, she just bought one of these excellent machines and we couldn't find a manual in our language but your tutorial helped us out.
Thank you for this video, I just bought one of these machines, and will be receiving it in a few days. The one that I have is a mauve color. Your tutorial for working this machine is excellent
@@zabangxaza1418 I would grab that, it is a bargain. Mine is currently at the sewing machine technician, in the meanwhile I have bought another Necchi a Supa Nova Ultra, which I haven't played with as yet (because due to the pandemic my husband is here and he will only carry on when he learns that I have yet another vintage machine) but I soon hope to. I believe Necchi machines will be very collectable so yes, treat yourself and buy it
I really appreciate that you gave us a thorough demonstration of how to use the two types of cams. I hope my machine comes with the complete cam set. I’ll see once it arrives. If I’m missing Necchi parts, could you recommend a site or sewing shop where I might find vintage Necchi accessories? Thank you in advance for your kid help.
I changed the needle because it broke. It slides in very easily with the flat side of the needle facing left. After the change I worked for hours making it work until I suddenly realized that the flat side must be facing right. Now it works very well again.
To wind bobbin you need to bring thread through the door hole down to wrap around guide then up to bobbin that is why it keeps coming out of door hole.
Hi Mel, this is my first video with you. I learned a lot, and I thank you for that. I have one small suggestion. While pointing out areas or points on the machine, I fund your hand or nails cover up what you are showing us. Many other presenters with long nails use a pointer, such as a stylus to clearly locate the area about which they are talking. That’s just a suggestion, that would be helpful to me, as a new Necchi owner. Please do not take this as a negative criticism. My intend is to be constructive for those of use who need to see exactly what you are pointing out and describing. Thanks for a great video. I’ll be a new follower and hope to learn more about Necchi machines from you. I just received a Supernova BU and am not sure where in the history of Necchis that this one falls from oldest to newest models.
So I have this exact machine. For whatever reason I cannot get it to pick up the thread. I’ve adjusted the machines tension and everything. I can pull the thread up from the bobbin but it will not pick up the bottom thread and pull it through the fabric. Could you possibly help?
Thank you! I love my Necchi Julia. What throws me off is where the mark on the single cam should be. I know the notches should fit, but the bar mark on the cams has to face a certain side in order to get the right pattern. The other thing I have problem with is making buttonholes. I struggle with trying to figure out how to use the micro-electro control. Can you make a video on how to use the micro-electro control too?
I recently figured out that I might have the wrong bobbin but I did notice it tends to stop in the middle of sewing. it will hang up then u wind the wheel and it starts to work again.
The Julia takes a class 15 bobbin. The class 15 bobbin is the most common bobbin and what you will find in most stores. It hanging up while sewing can be several issues. First is needle position when starting if it is close to the fabric all machines will struggle there. Either start with the needle all the way up or all the way down. Next could be the belt slipping, they do stretch out over time and have to be replaced. If you have recently oiled your machine you may have gotten some oil on the belt causing it to slip. Something I just recently noticed with mine was it struggling but would take off as soon as I turned the hand wheel. I had switched over to minimum speed because I was doing some tedious stitch in the ditch. As soon as I put the motor back on full power it went back to having no issues at all. Those are the places I would start. If you need more help just get ahold of me I'll do my best to help you figure out what is wrong. :)
So recently I changed the bobbin to metal bobbins and still doing some of the same stuff it will so sew for a little bit then not. It is getting very frustrating because I really want it to work. Is there a place I can get a new belt? I guess I'm going to have to take the top off and look on the inside to see if there is something I can do to fix it. I want to keep my sewing machine but if I can't I don't really know what else I can do.
Are the bobbins new metal bobbins or old metal bobbins? What do you mean it stops sewing? If you want you can email me at melissa at quiltingroomwithmel dot com
A few days back I had ask why I couldn't get my machine to run. Still haven't found my problem, but I think it has something y o do with the wheel maybe a belt. I can't fine in my book that it has a belt. If I open the door where the bobbin is threaded and kinda move the belt it will start to run. I can't see with my finger up there. my question can you change that little belt. If so how and how do you know what part number to order.
Jo Ann I'm sorry I had someone ask a very similar question on my Facebook page with a similar name and just assumed you were the same person. To get the belt off you have to take the motor shroud off the back so you can get to the belt. You will have to measure the belt and just order the same size. The book doesn't list the belt size and it's been a while since I changed mine out.
Hello, I am having a few issues. I can not move the lever that changes needle position and I can not get my zigzag stitch to go greater then 2.5. They are stuck.

One of the best sewing machines of all time

This isn't a Lelia, this is a Julia, different sewing machines.
Yes, I noticed that too. If you thread the machine with the front door open and then close it when you are done, it will correct this. 👍

Hi Melissa! It sounds like you need to clean that area up. The blog, quiltingroomwithmel.com has a section about cleaning up machines.
Could you show us how to use needle threader,i am a beginner ,thanks very much.
My needle threader doesn't work and I've never fixed it. I just thread the machine without it.
I wonder if I could 3d print cams
I’ve always thought you could but haven’t tried it.
THANKS! I am sure that's my problem if not the belt is in rough shape.
