It's our annual Belle Epoque en Plein Air where we dress up in costume from around 1900, and invite artists to come enjoy the scenery.

Sara, an IT professional & Stephen a graphic designer and artist are world-traveling Canadians who dreamt of moving to Europe, and France in particular. In 2020 they were working from home when Stephen turned to Sara and popped the question she was longing to hear, “What would have to be true for us to buy a chateau in France?” They searched online for months viewing hundreds of properties. They narrowed their search and toured some properties when they happened upon the one that captured our hearts, Château de Saint-Germain-des-Prés. A year later they made the move to France to start their new adventure in our beautiful Château. They created “Manor and Maker” to reflect the two sides of their adventure. One, to live as chateau owners with all the ups and downs and two, to pursue their passions as makers, creating art in all its forms. They will invite others to come together, united by their passions, to share in this adventure. We invite you to join us too, as we bring our dreams to life. Welcome to Manor & Maker.

The last screen shot of everyone in their outfit seated/standing in the garden is so beautiful😊
David did such a nice job for us!
So thoughtful of the previous owners to bring over the postcards ❤ They must love seeing what you're doing and how you appreciate the chateau.
Especially since we have some of her parents & grandparents furniture... she & her sisters came to visit for the Expo and were pleased to "visit" their treasures.
So lovely, so precious, wow!!!
What a life! Brocante right at your door, period costumes, rural France. Fabulous!
What an epic day!!! Thank you for sharing it with us! You all looked stunning!
The Brocant right to the door…
The retreat looks like it went well! 😊
So dangerous... and delightful!
What a lovely set of prints, I can see Steve and his laser cutter picking some idea’s off of them. You all look absolutely beautiful in your costumes, very elegant. Love to you both xx
Thanks so much 😊
Awesome. Love the costumes and the fun it looks like!❤
You all looked so beautiful in your costumes! Thank you for celebrating such an elegant era. All I can think is how much modern society's dressing standards have lowered. I'm sure the people of that day would agree!
What a fun event! I bet the people in town love having their Canadien chateau owners jumping right in to their local holidays.
what a great day -- the photos are real gems too! Just wow!
It's different somehow, taking a still over extracting one from a video, isn't it?
Beautiful pics and thx for sharing the fireworks. Love me some fireworks! ❤
Your photos of the day look beautiful.
Hi Sara and Steve, 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 on another wonder vlog. You both look very much the part in your wonderful costumes.
I love all these events that you run at your Chateau. 🥰🇨🇮
Thank you so much!!
Thank you for sharing your grand occasion 🎉❤
Lovely photos at the end of you all on the lawn, perfect!
Loved the video ❤
That looks so much fun!
Fun times at the chateau!
Beautiful costumes! The artists are so talented. ❤
What a fun day! It reminds me that even adults need to play and imagine.
Absolutely - it's part of the overall message of our events.
An absolutely beautiful event 🌹well done Steve and Sarah, the photography with your lovely chateau surrounds looked very authentic. I imagine them in sepia would be more atmospheric 👏❤️
Here’s some sepia photos for you!
What a beautiful photo shoot! 💗
Fun times! I kept waiting for the song tho lol La Belle Epoch, would have been perfect!
Your videos are always a pleasure to watch. Sarah you might want to consider getting old-fashioned wire framed glasses for when you are in costume
It was a fun-filled, joyous day! All credit to you Sara and Steve
And our talented artists that made it! 😉😉😉 Hugs!
What a beautiful chateau as a backdrop to the brocante😊
We received one unsolicited compliment - indirectly, when one of the salespeople said they loved the location!
Love those dresses
Thank you, I appreciate your kindness about the gifts 😊❤
We really do appreciate them! And it was such fun to put them to use!
Fun idea for your costume days: get some glasses that look old-fashioned (with your lens prescription of course). It would be a good investment!
Amazing fireworks 😮
What a fun artistic day! Very nice video of the fireworks!❣️🩷👏🏻👏🏻
How lovely. A beautiful surprise 😊😊😊😊😊😊
You are so kind!
@@ManorandMaker I looked up and saw my phone pinged. A special treat 😋
I love when you dress in period clothing 😍
its all about detecting treasures - and you are so good finding those (I do not mean the guitar playing frog 🙂 ) - thanks for taking us along - Oh, and those Belle Epoque costumes were gorgeous - your photos pieces of art again👏
Oh come on... someone out there loves a guitar playing frog ... 😂😂 Thanks for the kind words!
So lovely!
Loved this! It felt like a trip back in time…. Would enjoy spending just a few hours during that genteel time! Looked like a fun day for all!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice firework photos!
Oooh, we dont drop the 'eh' often, but so glad someone got the tickle trunk reference!
@@ManorandMaker 🥰💞💞
loved this latest video....a busy few days but with a great ending. Loved the Downton Abbey music to go along with the theme. You both looked spectacular.
I knew someone would pick up on that... I think they should call that piece "Not quite Downton" lol...
I’m was born and raised in Iowa!!! Such a beautiful picture of you all dressed up!! Lots of love from Tennessee!!!❤❤❤
Hi April-from-Iowa in Tennessee!
@@ManorandMaker lol!! We lived here in Tennessee for 16 years!! I’m telling you it gets humid!!!
How’s the weather where your at!!! You both take care. Can’t wait til your next episode!! Lots
Lovely costumes. The photographs looked awesome. Hope we see more. It seemed like a smaller group this year. Seeing some of the artists at work is lovely. I hope we see thier completed pieces. Those old prints are very cool. Great find. It is wonderful that your neighbor gave you the postcards of the chateau. ❤
No Alabama license plate 😢
I’d love to see some of the photos in Black & White as the Victorians photos would have been . Very fun😎
Such a great idea! Made a short for you with blk/wht photos.
Very talented artists I love seeing all the joy you share w friends
It's just a hoot!
Great filming of the brocante thank you! Nearly like being there!
Glad you enjoyed it
One of my fave events you do. ♥️
How kind that they gave you the postcards. ♥️
We love it!
❤wonderful ❤
Women’s outfits are darling.
Oh my gosh, that is so cool. ❤love
Thanks so much!
oh My SOUL IS SAD. I love those books the prints areeeeeee GOOOORGEOUS. Those etchings are exquisite. Perfect video. I hope someday I have the opportunity to be right there with you enjoying all those great weeks of happy memories.
We loved them as a find! Looking forward to seeing what we can do with them!
How convenient to have a brocante right outside your door! June's journey is very confusing to use. I'm not a computer player.
There is a lot of play choices in JJ. If you just stick to the fun main story (the hidden objects scenes) you get a feel for the game, and can branch out later. I'll admit I found all the options a bit much at first, but then I realized I could explore them at my own pace with no penalty.
Of course you NEED a 2CV van, converted, to pick up guests at the train station!!! Holler at me anytime you need rationalization for a ridiculous expense! (Having an annual brocante / vide-grenier delivered to your doorstep has to have been reason enough to buy your chateau! LOL!) Loved the Belle Epoque Weekend footage, too!
yes -- what a location! Having a bakery within walking distance of my chateau would be a real plus -- if I ever had a chateau!
just checking in to say "Sara" you are looking fabulous this morning, you are definitely enjoying life! Love It!
How wonderful and potentially dangerous to have a brocade tight outside your door 😂😂😂😂😂Love your purchases ❤❤❤❤❤
Merci de faire revivre nos châteaux français ❤
Avec plaisir!
Great photos & fete! What funnyou & guests have...I love it ! 👏👏🫶🌟🥰
Gorgeous.
Interesting Stephanie and Philip missed it.
They are also running a business, and attend suppers with their guests. Much as we all love to, we can't always attend each others events.
@@ManorandMaker Sure...
It's great that you 2 show up for her.
so cool
Thanks Joy!
It was such a fun filled weekend!
Has there been a vlog which tells the story of how you two met? If not, I would be keen to see photos too! Thanks! ✨🇦🇺
Nope... also not a lot of photos available because I really hate(d) being in front of a camera.... lol.
I have a fan from Indonesia that is made of sandalwood and connected with a ribbon.
How lovely 😊
👋👍❤️
Love you guys and your contene but "Please" discourage fireworks, so dangerous for those that make them so damaging to the environment and wildlife/pets/farm animals & there are much better alternatives. Just look at the White Night festivals that I believe originated in Paris and now are held all over the world. Laser light displays are also less invasive and less damaging.
🥰🇨🇦
Hello, back from Iowa.
Ha! I knew I'd find some Iowans (?) out there...
Wow!! You’re brocante shopping for viewers!!
Any excuse :)
Beautiful video today. Two Quick questions, what is the status of the patio next to the dining room? I recall that the volunteers were helping to fill in with rubble to raise the level of it for finishing. And second, what is the status of the barn roof? You showed covering it with a tarp, but that’s just temporary. It can only be deteriorating further if not addressed. I hate to see you putting off needed repairs. Do you have a plan as to how you will fund these repairs? And, will you be updating these issues in a future video? I wish you well in your endeavors.
I have been born in the wrong time.....
Lol... it's a fun thought exercise. But the health science was yet to come....
@@ManorandMaker Yes, of course. I would be creating herbal remedies :)
Where did you get your parasols from?
we bought them at a brocante last year in Haute Forte
Your glasses were to modern for the photographs
Our vibe for this is to have fun, and be 'historically adequate'. And I really can't see without glasses (and cant wear contacts anymore for reasons).
I am uninformed here, what does the title mean in English?
No worries. Belle Epoque is a time period in France between 1870-1914. Parts of our chateau date from then. The outfits are from that period. Plein air is a fancy name for painting onsite. We invite artists to capture the scene like they would have during the Belle Epoque era. Hope that helps.
En plain air means in the open air and la Belle Époque translates to. The Beautiful era. So the beautiful era in the open air. Google Art nouveau you images Elaine you will see some beautiful things natural forms were used to create flowing sinuous lines and curves full of natural inspiration in almost every including architectural style there are some stunning buildings in Barcelona La Pedrera- Casa Mila comes to mind amongst others it’s time in history is one of opulence and a luxurious appearance just stunning in all its forms
