In the most of the games when I downclock to -10 I don't have any problem but some game specifically as (Dead by Daylight, Rust ) still crash and it doesn't matter how much I reduce the frequency. I've searched in Reddit and it seems that at least dbd problems it something related to a game issue. Nice video btw
I'm noticing all of the comments are from 2 weeks - a month ago, is this a recent issue? I'm having the same issue, fixed with this video by downclocking -8%. If so, in what games is it most prevalent? Mine is rust, I'm not sure if the issue is game based or card based.
I have this issue since I've bought the graphic a couple months ago. Like I said the only both games that I have issues with are rust (which I noticed that the problems is only in the start menu) and Dbd which downclocking to -15 don't crash and I don't feel underperformance with the downclock tho
@@ohlson110 increase power limit to +50. after weeks of research ill just do a tl;dr When playing at high resolutions and high refresh rates, the GPU is going to use more wattage to output video to your monitor. what happens is, when it has some usage spikes, it goes over 150W, which is like the default max power it can use. when it reaches that, the monitor goes black. by reducing max clock, it's going to use less wattage, which means no black screens. you can also increase the power limit so it doesn't limit itself to 150w.

If anyone had this problem or "amd software detected that a driver timeout" first try this.. This at first didn't help me, I had problem when was stormy/rainy weather and power went off. Then all problems starts. Both HDMI on gpu didn't work, only DVI. After few weeks it starts to freeze 1-5 minutes. I tried all old drivers, DDU, undercloking, clean from dust (actually cleaning 1 time helped me when it was BLACK SCREEN).. nothing. I send gpu to electron service, after a week they said that nothing can be fixed, all components is fine. All magic happend when I bake gpu on 195c 10 minutes and cleaned with alchohol. Repeat steps ( DDU, new drivers etc) Both HDMI is working now ( I'm using monitor and TV). I had freeze again and reset PC (probably scared of me and my experiment) - second try.. I go immediately in AMD software underclock -30% and power limit +30%. I tried game no freeze no stuttering /flickering - temps are max 60c - fans need time to slow down, but it's okay with me . GPU works for now 5.8.2022 - I know it won't work much longer, but for now I'm happy! And if this help anyone again I'm happy :) P.S Try everything before you decide to bake gpu, be sure that is last option you have. (1. Clean properly with alchohol, 2. other cables, monitor ... 3. DDU, new/old Drivers, undercloking 4. other motherboard, psu..etc)

Hi All, I just want you to know that I fixed mine without underclocking the GPU. All I did was repasted the GPU (My GPU is Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580). This GPU of mine was already repasted by my friend before. I tried to open it up and I discovered that my friend used 1mm thick of thermal pads around the GPU processor which is too thick. The stock thermal pads of Sapphire Nitro+ Rx580 is only 0.75mm. Since I don't have the 0.75mm of thermal pads the day I opened my GPU, what I did is I temporarily remove all the thermal pads that my friend put on the gpu and only repasted the GPU processor. I installed back the heatsink without the thermal pads just to test if it will work. I tested my GPU without thermal pads and guess what, It works! Its working normally since then. Its not going black screen again unlike before. I doubt the reason why the GPU goes black screen and fan starts spinning fast is because when the GPU starts to render, the GPU temp will suddenly increase and because of the thickness (1mm) of the thermal pads that my friend put on the GPU, the GPU can't make it cooldown on the sudden rise of temperature due to the heatsink is not attached properly. Just my observation. When I got my order of 0.75mm thermal pads, I applied it to my GPU and it's still working. So, my suggestion is, repaste your GPU and replace thermal pads, just make sure that the thickness of pads is correct. You may try to research it on web what is the thickness of your GPU thermal pads. If you don't have a replacement yet, you may also try to remove your old thermal pads temporarily and try if your GPU will also work normally. But just don't use your GPU for heavy load until you replace the thermal pads. To anyone that will try my suggestion, please comment down if this will also work for you.
Yep, fixed it for me as well. I even had to clock it down slightly more and make sure i had a casefan pointed straight at the card. Probably something other than the core overheating. You could probably mess around more with undervolting/better cooling but this is the easiest fix and the couple of FPS you might save, aren't worth the hassle imo.
thanks a lot ... my GPU didn't have any blackscreen issues but I just wanted to lower the temperature an power drain ... at 1366MHz it was about 74°C (140W) now it's arround 60°C (100W) at 1257MHz
This seems to have fixed black screens on my RX 6900 as well. In the AMD software it was by default set 10% higher than the boost frequency... I set it just below the advertised boost at 2215, no issues since. I had black screens in NMS and Dying Light 2.
For those who hace black screen and must restart the PC again , there is no software Solution for It , i tried everything, changing BIOS , changing drivers , etc... The only Solution is to change your mother board , when i used my GPU in my dad's PC ( 1150 mother board ) , It worked perfectly Solution: Changing mother board
Someone else suggested to increase the voltage for the chip and also adjust the fan speed but this is the safer method. I guess the performance drop will not be noticeable when lowering the frequency to standard.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! But i think it also has to do with the thermal paste you may have applied on the card. Before i had used a white paste, now i used a grey one and applied your settings, everything back to normal.
It fixed it for maybe half an hour, then it came back :( This sucks, nothing fixes it. And a friend of mine who also has the RX 580 used to have the same problem but now it doesn't happen anymore to him. I don't know why.

Thanks mate! You saved me. RX5700 here and it works 100% now without black screens.
@@herford_ yup, same issue. In rust its as soon as I click play game
@@ohlson110 increase power limit to +50. after weeks of research ill just do a tl;dr
When playing at high resolutions and high refresh rates, the GPU is going to use more wattage to output video to your monitor. what happens is, when it has some usage spikes, it goes over 150W, which is like the default max power it can use. when it reaches that, the monitor goes black. by reducing max clock, it's going to use less wattage, which means no black screens. you can also increase the power limit so it doesn't limit itself to 150w.
I'll try it
A simple easy fix with better performance is install only drivers no Adrenaline and use MSI afterburner settings disable ULPS. Enjoy
Yooo bro can you teach me how to do it?
-4% -- state 7 at 1312 MHz
-5% -- state 7 at 1300 MHz
-6% -- state 7 at 1285 MHz
-7% -- state 7 at 1271 MHz
-8% -- state 7 at 1257 MHz
-9% -- state 7 at 1243 MHz
-10% -- state 7 at 1229 MHz
-11% -- state 7 at 1215 MHz
You can check my math, X will be the % in decimal form, A will be the outcome from the first equation.
1) 1366 · (x%)= A
2) 1366 - A= (new state 7 clock)
EXAMPLE
1366 · 0.08 = 109.28
1366 - 109.28 = 1256.72
Meaning, State 7 at -8% is 1257
-1% = -14
This method did not work for me unfortunately, but I found something that did! In the Radeon software, go to Settings > Display > Overrides > HDCP Support (Disable this via the toggle) - that's it! Have not had a single black screen since doing this a week ago.
Just gave this a try!

I was struggling with black screen issue for weeks. Your Wattman settings works. Didn't know about Bass Frequency of rx580. Thanks for help man!
Thanks for the guide. It saved my Powercolor RX470 Red Devil that bought with miners. Condition were so bad that i thought it can't game for 30mins. It so bad the Heatsink corroded & white color stuff will fall down from heatsink which so disgusting. Now de-tuned the Power Limit & GPU frequency both -11%. It runs so cool & stable under 70'celcius & 80W power consumption. So far after a week of gaming it didn't go black screen.
Havent had a crash since doing this for a full day, after getting them at least every hour. Dude you're my hero!
My screen goes black whenever I try to render 3840x2160 on Lumion 10 with my RX 580. At first, I thought my power supply was faulty or even my video card. So I tried your fix and so far everything is going well. I really appreciate your tutorial. Thank you.

Hey, thank you so much! In my case i fixed it only by reaching -11% on max frequency. Have a good day y'all :-)
man i've been struggling with my rx7800, simce warzone 3 season 4 update. Launching even the game I had hard resets. I've checked the max frequency and was above than the amd specs just lowered the frequency to 2300 instead the max which was 2465 and solved my issue . Thanks a lot my friend
Wish I had found this ages ago, I've been having this issue with several games, including most recently BG3. Completely fixed the problem!
This worked for me as of 1/10/21. I have had things stop working later, so I will update this comment if it doesn't work. However, I would like to also mention that this could be a different problem such as using the built-in anti-aliasing in the software which conflicts with in-game anti-aliasing. This can only be turned off by reinstalling your drivers and setting the mode to standard.
Edit: It is 1/20/21. My card has crashed again playing Warframe. Same problems. Black Screen, Fans Speeding Up, and the whole deal. I checked my drivers and it seems that my setting was changed without my input. This means the drivers are EVEN MORE S*** than I originally thought. I corrected this and I will get back to you if anything changes.

Started happening to me too just a few hours ago while playing warframe and it only got worse to the point where I don't even reach the login screen anymore.

I endured a whole year and finally found a way out of this problem, I can play new games.Thank you! (i have rx vega 64)
The fix I used when I bought mine a year ago was installing only the driver without the AMD Radeon software and using a portable version of it just to tweak screen color and temperature, and for the fan curve and undervolt I use MSI Afterburner
hey, may i ask how you were able to do that ? i think that, when i want to download the driver, the amd radeon software comes automaticly with it
I'm using a MSI laptop with integrated Radeon graphics. Any fix for that?
Thank you!!! I've been trying to figure out what was causing this problem for 3 years.
Hey man. Here in Brazil is 2am. I'll not get up to try this now but for all those positive feedbacks u've got it definitely worth a shot. Thanks for the excellent explanation. After doing my test I'll be back with my own feedback all right? Cya
As promised I'm back for the feedback.
Here in my RX 570 Gaming 4GB I had to put it's core at 1170Mhz to stabilize the VGA so far. 11am in Brazil, same day. I was able to play 3 matches in Warzone, then I left the VGA when I was sleeping doing a stress test at MSI Kombustor looking for artifacts or instability. I'll be back another time to give you my final explanation. So far my friend. Thanks a lot. Here I still have to figure out how to solve the black screen while alt+tab because on games works fine but if sometimes I need to alt+tab then come back for the game... black screen again but no restart, so I have to alt+F4 the game then open it again.
on my rx 570 it's like magic. my gpu more cooler than before. thank you so much

Thank you for this tutorial. It really helped me to resolve my problem with my AMD GPU. MSI RX 5600 XT 6GB Mech OC
It helps with AMD Freesync signal loss (black screen) 1-2 seconds on my RX580. Thank you!
Repeat steps ( DDU, new drivers etc)
Both HDMI is working now ( I'm using monitor and TV).
And if this help anyone again I'm happy :)
P.S Try everything before you decide to bake gpu, be sure that is last option you have. (1. Clean properly with alchohol, 2. other cables, monitor ... 3. DDU, new/old Drivers, undercloking 4. other motherboard, psu..etc)
u a w because my gpu was giving me black lines everytime it overheated but when i did what u did it fixed it and now i get more fps in games other people videos worked but it just gave me 60 fps but this video gave me more fps in games and made my games run better thx w bro

Hi All,
I just want you to know that I fixed mine without underclocking the GPU.
FRIGGING FRUSTRATION FIXER!!! Thank you! I can now enjoy crash free gaming
Thanks a lot for your help ! It allowed me to play to CyberPunk on My HP old Workstation equipped with a ATI Rx570🎉🎉🎉🎉
Yep, fixed it for me as well. I even had to clock it down slightly more and make sure i had a casefan pointed straight at the card. Probably something other than the core overheating. You could probably mess around more with undervolting/better cooling but this is the easiest fix and the couple of FPS you might save, aren't worth the hassle imo.
thanks a lot ... my GPU didn't have any blackscreen issues but I just wanted to lower the temperature an power drain ... at 1366MHz it was about 74°C (140W) now it's arround 60°C (100W) at 1257MHz
you are a genious... i ve had this problem since last year... and thank you now i can waste my time on rust, i love you
На своей RX590 выставил заводские 1469 там где он показывал, и вылеты прекратились! Огромное спасибо!

This seems to have fixed black screens on my RX 6900 as well. In the AMD software it was by default set 10% higher than the boost frequency... I set it just below the advertised boost at 2215, no issues since. I had black screens in NMS and Dying Light 2.
I'm using the 6900xt too! What numbers did you tuned? Im having the same issue when playing R6 Extraction
You can also try to increase the power limit to 50%, which helped me with the problem.

Thank you much! Worked on my rx 560 ❤️
It fixed it for maybe half an hour, then it came back :(
This sucks, nothing fixes it. And a friend of mine who also has the RX 580 used to have the same problem but now it doesn't happen anymore to him. I don't know why.

highly recommend doing this undervolting, 1-2 % fps loss but worth it.
This saved me for years, but now the PC automatically restarts when I change those settings and it reverts back to the default values, it must have been the new version of AMD Radeon.
If this doesn’t fix your crashes. Reflash the bios on your gpu, and then under lock it.
