Raina was interested in your books, or so I thought. She wanted those treats! What a love she is! I liked your review and thank you for the info! I have read a few of them and have a few of those on my shelf. ❤
I am looking to read from your list. Just will say, for the last three winters I have binge read the Beartown series and one year read all three twice! It is such a strong story. Thanks for your recommendations.
@lyndajohnson7190 thanks! I hope you enjoy the books - "Beartown" seems to be one of those books that everyone likes. I'm so glad I got a chance to read it this year.
Thank you! She really is the best! I've had a lot of dogs in my life - all were different, all were loved. But this little girl has stolen my heart! She's as sweet as she looks - everyone LOVES her!
It's good to see you, Reney, with your co-host. :) Bridge to Terabithia. I made the mistake of reading it my first year of teaching (fifth grade). I hadn't read it before and when I got to the end I started weeping in front of my students. But it was a good thing for them to see how books can effect us. Good memories! Wishing you and your family a very blessed 2025! :)
Loved your selections for your 2024 favorites. The Giver is fabulous and you will enjoy the others in the series equally, I’m sure. Bridge to Terabetha was popular with my daughters and I when it first came out. It’s a beautiful, heart-wrenching story. The Women is sitting on my TBR shelf right now. Oh, and I also agree with you about Bel Canto. I just have difficulty getting into the Patchett books I’ve attempted though one of my dear friends absolutely loves her. A thumbs up to you for reading so many banned books! Have a happy new reading year!
@susan3037 yes, I should have mentioned that! I read 18 banned books, in all - fell a little short of the goal of 24, but still - I'm proud of my reviews and discussions about all of them and the variety of those I read. Will I do 25 in 25? Let's see!
Terrific video, Reney. You've had a great reading year. I have to tell you that I did laugh out loud when you mentioned Bel Canto--especially when you said you meant to take it to the little free library and you forgot to bring it with you. It's as though you're never going to be able to get rid of that book. But seriously, you did read so many really wonderful books, and you did such a phenomenal job of reading banned books too. Raina absolutely seems to have had a good year too. She's such a great co-host. Here's to a healthy and peaceful 2025!
@@BookChatWithPat8668 Honestly, that book haunts me! LOL! Isn't it crazy that most of my favorite books are the banned ones!? If you're going to take away books, I guess you just start with the BEST ones! I hope you have a wonderful New Year, too. I'm going to take a tip from Mr Roger's and look for the helpers!
You definitely had an awesome year 🤩 I didn't see Bridge to Terabithia on your channel because I don't think I was around in January, but I'll be checking your video on it. I totally forgot about that book but I remember really loving it as a kid, even with the tragic ending. I might have to add it onto my TBR, and get around to it! 100% agree that Beartown to be recommended. I didn't expect to enjoy it so much, and I didn't expect for him to be able to write such an intense story surrounding a small town & hockey. Lots of awesome recommendations, I definitely added Bridge to Terabithia & To Kill a Mockingbird into my TBR for the future ✨ I love the recap for Raina as well 😂 Happy New Year!
@itsmimiduong Happy New Year! I didn't know much about "Bridge to Terabithia" before reading it. I was quite pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it! Happy reading!
I have read To Kill a Mockingbird several times but it's been a number of years since I have done so. I'll have to give it another re-read! I'm so glad you enjoyed Beartown. I loved that one. I just started reading the last in the series!
I really loved TKAM - but, one warning - the first 30 - 35 pages are kind of boring. It's not just me, lots of people have said it. Later in the book, you realize why you had to know so much about her neighborhood. Beartown is so well-written and such amazing characters. Everyone seems to find to like in that story.
I love your co-host. To Kill a Mockingbird is my all time favorite book. I first read it in high school and have read it multiple times since high school.
New viewer and really enjoyed this! About 10 years ago or so I ran a book club for young girls and we read many of those ‘banned books’! I can’t imagine children and adults not having access to such amazing stories and ideas!
@SandyTCF Welcome! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! Yes, it's important for young people to "see" themselves in books. I can't understand the bans. These books are chronicles of real issues and dilemmas that people are grappling with every day. Difficult as it may be to face them, the stories need to be told.
@ agree! My group started off ranging from 6-9 years old. The depth of discussions we had was amazing. Sometimes the parents/guardians joined but they had to let the kids speak first. It was interesting when parents were concerned with the content the kids got it! and had profound insights. Instead of banning some of these books so much can be learned by having frank discussions about some of the topics that are problematic!
This whole book banning business in the US is heartbreaking, so mind-boggling, bewildering... A fantastic review video, Reney, very enjoyable, clever to combine least favourites with most favourites, added some spice. A very fun video to watch - thank you.
What a list! I agree with you about The Women, The Giver and The Nickelodeon Boys. I read Bel Canto for Bookclub and really liked it. @@KellyLovesBooksandMovies I was a little surprised by how much I enjoyed that book. It's difficult for people explain what that story is really about. I'm not that surprised that have some of our top books in common. It just shows what great books they are!
