  • This was a fun test to make, not knowing what will happen is the biggest fun of it all, Since the 7.3 is such a big old school diesel engine i knew it was to put up a fight for sure an she did!!! Next video i want to see how many starts i can get per each jumper box on one full charge with the Silverado 5.3 engine.
Also i want to find a 6.7 started from a 2011-2017 F250 and see if that can fit and if that would improve the starting process perhaps????
If you were thinking about getting one of these chargers here are the links bellow, I would suggest the Audew because its the cheapest and seems to be the most capable, Noco would be my second choice because its bigger so im guessing it can jump start more times than Audew and the JNC Air is also great because its a compressor all in one and its capable of starting all sort of engines as well and pump some tires.

The dirt cheap charger I bought in 1988 is much better and more robust. Only bought the Noco because my motorbike had a lithium battery.

I have the NOCO GBX75 and according to the specs it is able to start diesel vehicles up to a 6.5L. It has started my son's 7.3L diesel several times easily with no sign of strain.. That's even without pressing the override button. Never even gave it a thought about needing to press the override button. Hook it up, press the power button, wait for the white light to turn on, you have 60 seconds to turn the key, turn the key to start and Bam. No hesitation. Starts right up.

Before using the Manual Override feature, make sure the
HD battery clamps are connected to the correct polarity
battery terminals. To use the Manual Override feature, press
and hold the Manual Override Button (a red exclamation
point icon inside a red circle) for three (3) seconds. The
White Boost LED will flash “On” and “Off” indicating you
have successfully entered into Manual Override and it is
ready to jump start your vehicle. If connected in reverse
polarity, the Red Error LED will illuminate and the unit will
    not operate.
I say give the Noco another chance it just might have a little extra to it.

There's a lot of negative comments and some of them are right about reading the manual But one thing that was completely missed is that truck is a 7.3 diesel and the GB70 is meant for starting 8 litre Gas trucks and 6.0 litre Diesels, Not 7.3 L diesels that's where you need the GB150 which goes up to 10 Litre Gas or Diesels. based on these facts I did not expect any of them to start that 7.3.

The 7.3 "wait to start" light is the major cause of cold start failure on these models.
The light goes out at around 8 or 10 seconds, if you listen closely you can hear the glow plug relay continues to run for another 15 seconds and clicks off. It sounds like an electric fuel pump running. Best fix? Turn on ignition, wait 30 seconds, start.
    Square biz.

The ability to start an engine depends on the CCA rating. Your truck batteries are each rated at about 730 CCA. There is no correlation between peak amperage and CCA. Lithium batteries cannot be rated by CCA as they will not survive the GCI test - they will fry.

The jump starter I use when my 7.3 needs a jump is a 4KW portable generator with a 200 amp 12Vdc power supply. The engine shuts off when the voltage is low on the batteries because the alternator output has a lot of ripple which increases with load. The battery acts as a filter and a rippled voltage confuses the computer, causing the engine to shut down. I have had this happen with the Powerstokes, but it cannot happen with the IDI engines. They can run with almost no battery as long as the fuel solenoid stays energized.

Hi great vid as always👍. The reason it stalls when the battery is disconnected basically the pcm regulates the voltage from the alternator and the alternator only keeps the batteries charged but can't keep up without a battery because of the idm takes 14v and converts it to 240v to fire the injector cylinoids and if the glow plugs are on and working the battery voltage at idle should be 11.9 to 13.1 depending on if it is a single or dual alternator setup and the glow plugs stay on up to 2 mins even after the wait to start light goes out

Im surprised here. I have a Jumtop which claims to have 2500peak and 1200 at crank. I see no reviews on it tho. I also got the Audew , mainly bcuz every review ive seen for Audew shows it kicking everything else arse. I also have the GB40, which is magic, for a few seconds. What's interesting is i have several shops who have the GB70 and compared to its size and build quality, it really doesnt FEEL as powerful. You could hold down the red button for a while and that will it force it to power on HOWEVER im not sure if that wouldve done much difference here. From all the ones ive used, the Noco isnt limiting how much power its using, its just smart enough to know a battery isnt connected, so it doesnt turn on the power. In the video, he was able to trick it to turn on, so that SHOULDVE been it. And when he took off the battery the lights on the GB70 were still scrolling, so it was still powering. And since the truck was able to even ATTEMPT to crank , with no batteries means it was the GB70 using its power. I dont know if this is another impressive feat for the Audew or a negative for the GB70. Also , most of the Audews that look like that one are actually 2000 amp peak with only 500 amp start. I begin to learn where these folks manipulate the wording. According to Noco, the GB40 delivers a whopping 1000amps "within seconds" of powering on. This wording SHOULD place it above everything here except the GB40. However, in most reviews the gb40 cant cut it, so i doubt its using 1000 amps. sorry for the rant, good video

The reason that the noco didn’t start the truck is because it doesn’t go above exactly 12 volts. It does actually have more amperage as advertised and 2000 amps is plenty to start the 7.3 but unlike the other two you tested, the noco doesn’t go above 12 volts. The other two probably have more voltage. If you had only 400 amps going to the engine, it would be plenty enough amperage as long as you had like 18 or more volts. My point is that the noco has the amperage it advertises but it doesn’t give out as much voltage so it is a good product. Also I have seen this same noco start that same truck in other videos. Other than that it was a good video.

Why people don't read the manual?
First and for most, this booster can start up to 6 liter diesel engine. It says on the box, therefor asking it to do a job it's not qualifying to do is not fair.
Secondly, when the battery is dead the device can't sense the dead battery therefore you have to press the override button.

“Actual Amps” is always about half of what the “Peak Amp” rating is.. Peak Amps is just marketing..
For the record - the compression in a 7.3 powerstroke is like 17.5 to 1.. hence the dual battery setup to begin with. They also need to hit a min rpm I believe and oil pressure on the high pressure oil system for the injectors to even be “allowed” to start.

Engine shuts off because the alternator needs a 12v supply to the armature to continue to supply voltage. You disconnect voltage supply and the armature magnetic flux is now gone and no more field excitation....therefore all voltage is lost. The injectors require 10.8 volts to fire so engine dies.

The fuel shut down solenoid activates when there is no power supplied to the vehicle by battery. That's why the engine died with the 73 diesel engines, as well as with other diesels you must have power from the battery to keep the fuel shut down solenoid valve open.
