“Well may I ask what you expected to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House perhaps? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically across the plain …”
Torquay with nice palm trees is known as the English Riviera and there are cliff top hotels with views across Torbay to Paignton and Brixham. We drive to Torquay from Bristol for a day every so often.
Not sure what the point of this video? He doesn’t even lay out his criteria for making his choices. What does come across is the impressive architecture of several northern towns, and the host’s sneering superiority.
I'm Irish myself and living in Ireland but a few years back my daughter and my granddaughter both moved to Stevenage , my daughter got a job there while it was another country I told myself it's easy to get and I'll be to visit them while I knew my kids would grow up one day you hope they will always be near by at least but I can tell you now that the people in Stevenage were very nice people and were good to our daughter and our granddaughter. In the years they were there in Stevenage I'm very proud to say not once did anyone in Stevenage did anyone ever call them names or give them a hard time for being Irish not once. In fact quite the opposite I would say so ,I found this Stevenage in something like this to be extremely harsh. So from a Irish gentleman we are very grateful to all the people of Stevenage and we all still keep a eye on Stevenage and the football team as well who when our daughter and our granddaughter were there had a very good youth football academy. Again thank you all our daughter and grandchildren are now back a few years now and I'm sure you'll all understand we are very happy for that God bless and take care also please remove Stevenage from list as you're being way to harsh on Stevenage and her people
Stevenage actually has one of the best theatres in the area! From my experience far better than the overrated town/city of Cambridge which I find, overcrowded, congested and expensive!
@ PATRICK My parents moved from Donegal to UK in late 1960s. They found jobs and opportunities that they never would in Ireland and never experienced any negative comments ! It really annoys me to read comments here from younger Irish people slagging off Britain and praising the EU !
@@2msvalkyrie529 you may have understood me while I would not allow anyone blame a people in this case people in Stevenage who were actually helpful to my Draughter and granddaughter but that doesn’t mean that the people of the Eu are not as good because they are. May I remind you people in Britain wanted to invade my country Ireland 🇮🇪 not our friends in the EU if anything our friends have stood by Ireland 🇮🇪 for all the right reasons after all the Good Friday agreement is important to all of us. Now look at the six counties of Ireland where most people including some unionist people who can see the benefits of the protocol but you have the same old ones who have always wanted hatred for the Irish people and Ireland 🇮🇪 itself. Some day the English people along with Welsh and Scottish will see although I believe myself these people are starting to see what’s really happening in the six counties of Ireland. These hard core unionist are the real problem and when this is addressed by the English Welsh Scottish people you will find a totally different and better way for Ireland England Wales and Scotland to work together for better future for all of us . But as regards the EU have really help us and of course our families and friends in the United States of America 🇺🇸 who we owe a huge amount too . Now I could go into a lot more about what these people wanted to do against Ireland 🇮🇪 but most of it was fantasy but British politicians actually tried to get Ireland 🇮🇪 thrown out of the EU now that’s over stepping the mark and unforgivable and why I personally never want England in the EU again. I was a person who said they want out then out but like when Ireland 🇮🇪 fought and won our independence I’ll remind everyone Britain applied tariffs and I mean very high tariffs as much as 250 percent on certain goods. When you leave something you don’t take the good parts only your on own it’s that simple really. But it doesn’t change my mind about Stevenage or its people .
I can't agree with you about Halifax. I spend six months of the year there and it's a lovely town with lovely architecture, places to eat and the friendliest of people.
I wouldn't take it personally he has literally just thrown 10 darts at a map of the UK and said they are shit. Most of the places he stated were said with nothing but a loose generic justification.
You’ve missed out the biggest shithole of all. London and before anyone thinks that I’m from some part of the country that resents it. I was born and grew up and still live in The London Borough of Camden. It’s probably alright if your a billionaire but for the rest of us. It’s a hell hole
Fair enough if that's your opinion - but London isn't really "a town" is it? It's many, many towns spread over 600 square miles. Sure, Camden is a bit rough, but Pinner? Richmond?...not really...and I'm no billionaire! 🤣
@@dieselfan7406 At least it has a beach Bradford just has a stink and rats running everywhere. It's worse than some parts of the 3rd world. It's a dump mate.
I'm a Lancashire lad who hasn't visited Bradford but I always thought that white Yorkshire stonework looked really good, compared to the depressing red brick (now black) in most of Lancashire and Greater Manchester. Giving Bradford, from a distance, some nice looking architecture. Is Bradford really as bad as everyone says?
Really surprised, Oldham actually has a claim to fame even as one of the worst. You can also go with the high street is almost gone, the football team probably has less than 100 fans, the local council is getting rid of the inside market which is probably one of the only reasons people even go to the town centre. Is it really any surprise we locals have literally no pride in the place.
I'm from Blackpool and it's another case of the rich just all taking and no giving ,and a bunch of councillors who mostly live in richer nicer areas around outside of the town ,all very sad after everything the town has given to millions of this countries people over the years ,in the whole Fylde coast there is hardly any industry and since Fleetwood lost its fishing industry it's even grimmer than Blackpool .
Sorry but Blackpool is horrible. Vomit. Crap cabaret and karaoke. The needles and syringes on the gravel and pebble beach. Peter Kaye videos. Being called a unt by about every tenth person when you explain that you can't give them a fag because you don't smoke. Rubbish, low quality catering chips. Vomit. Out of control inbreds being wilfully ignored by their parents. Anorexic, geriatric donkeys being beaten by venomous owners. Rarely being given the right change. A football club with a long history of ownership by "colourful" sex abusers and their families. Vomit. The strange lack of trains willing to go to either station. Watery, fizzy beer. British Aerospace is one of the biggest companies in the nation. I thought that it's headquarters is right on the doorstep. "Hardly any industry". Hmmmm.
Bet some in those USA hoods seen on RUclips would think most of these fine places to reside. Lots of not so good towns around the world. It's usually the people not the place which is the problem.
Im american and live in England. I actually go through Birmingham all the time. My thoughts on it are the same as any big city. There’s always going to be good and bad areas. And there’ll always be good and bad people.
@@anthonylong9067 Birmingham isn't on the list for good reason. It's one of the better areas in the UK, not one of the worst. For exactly the reasons you stated. It's the second city with good and bad areas like any major city. The places in this list are not major cities they are towns with an overall bad feel.
I would suggest the 4 collective Medway towns. Gillingham, Chatham, Rochester and Strood. Medway council are turning the towns into one big building site. It's a horrible area to live. If I could afford it, I would have left years ago.
I'm sure it's PURE coincidence that most of ( if not all!) of these former British towns have been swamped and taken over by "Overseas visitors and guests"!!!!!
I have lived in Stevenage for 14 years. We moved here from Barnet because we could get a lot more house for our money. Yes there are grotty bits but there are a lot of very smart areas too and I am very happy here. There is lovely countryside nearby, the town centre is in the middle of a big redevelopment and we can catch a train to central London in half an hour. I have just left a similar programme narrated by an American man who could not even pronounce names properly.
Stevenage never struck me as particularly grotty. It looks a reasonably nice place to live with nice countryside around and a decent train service to London.
@Calisthenic Day Trader Agree about Luton. Plenty of good areas to live. It suffers from an image problem in that its largely surrounded by better off areas around it that love to look down on Luton.
Stevenage is near both Welwyn Garden City and Old Welwyn. Both are pronounced well in, not well win. Stevenage is a bit of a dump though. I worked there for many years but never seriously considered moving there. Ditto most of my colleagues.
Yeah, as a resident of Snorbens, I had to laugh at that pronunciation. As a Northern lad+ by birth, there are many places there I wouldn't want to return to, but got to say I'm not sure Stevenage is that bad....Luton mind, different question!
@@markfox1545 The Piece Hall is a beautiful historic building surrounding a square. It was where cloth merchants would sell cloth in a "piece" . I think a Piece was 30 yards long and about five to six feet wide, cut from a longer length woven from the loom. (those meaurements are open to variation)To educate you further, Yorkshire was known for woolen mills and Lancashire for cotton mills. Some of the finest suit lengths in the world came from Yorkshire, particularly Huddersfield where I am from, then you have cloth from mills such as Reids and Taylor, which I believe was Leeds - I am open to correction if I've made any errors. The Piece Hall has featured on The Antiques Roadshow and is also an open air concert venue.
Click bait. Obviously written by someone who’s first language isn’t English and then read by someone who couldn’t be bothered to make it sound more vernacular or even research the correct pronunciations of all place names (Welwyn is pronounced “Wellin”). No sources quoted to back up the claims. Just petty and divisive for the sake of it. Unfortunately people lap it up.
It is spelt Welwyn for a reason: it was pronounced Wel-Win. It is not the non-locals fault that the lazy-tongued locals couldn't be bothered to continue pronouncing the 2nd w. A common problem in England, lazy pronunciation and then righteous indignation that some outsider says it correctly, namely, as it's written. Written language followed spoken language, of course, and vowels and consonants were placed in a word to reflect the pronunciation of the spoken language. So Welwyn would have been pronounced wel-win, just as Warwick would have been pronounced war-wick.
@@leod-sigefast I don’t agree with you. Language evolves, pronunciation changes and correct pronunciation doesn’t always match the spelling. But the main point is that it is not right for a channel from one country to stir up arguments and ill feeling in another. I wouldn’t criticise Ukraine or tell Ukrainians how to pronounce the name of their town. A Ukrainian channel shouldn’t do that about Britain.
Torquay had the best night life when a teenager in the 60’s. The Scotch, Casa Marina, Hot Spot and of course The 400 amoungst others.i have taken my S. American family back to visit in the summer and they really enjoyed it.
Oh my goodness, Casa Marina, Hot Spot, The 400 Club, etc. The Casa Marina is long gone now and was slightly before my clubbing days to be truthful. But The 400 Club is where I met my wife back in the 1970's. Sadly that's no longer a nightclub, but when it was I had many great nights there. Thanks for reminding me.
I don't think Halifax should be there but Bradford, Peterborough, Oldham, Walsall, most of Birmingham, most of London, Wolverhampton, Derby, Hull, Leicester, Stoke, Northampton, Scunthorpe, Burnley, Huddersfield, Bolton, Blackburn and Coventry are dire places to live
@@EmoBearRights Well I was at uni in Leicester too, lived and worked there as well - it is not the worst place but I didn't really like it. I'll put Leicester on the better end of the dire places I've listed and the ones on the video. On the plus side, Leicester city centre isn't too bad, has good curry houses, nice areas like Knighton Fields (and Oadby, Birstall, Groby, Wigston). I have lived in Birmingham, Leicester, Coventry and parts of London too outside of my home city
I thought he was quoting from something he had read initially. Then realised, nope he wasn't. What an unpleasant video and what a condescending tone. Lazy, stock images too.
Torquay, the third worst place to live in the UK? Are you kidding? Have you ever actually ever been here? Apparently not, judging by that back-to-front picture of Meadfoot Beach you included in this debacle! Very amateurish, I'd say. If it's so bad here, why do so many grockles keep coming back here year after year to stay? And why do so many blow-ins move down here and buy up all our houses? Crime rate very scary? You've not been around. Any crime here is often down to certain outsiders who swarm here to live anyway. In fact, to put the town where I was born and raised in this perfidious list indicates that you've not really visited very many places in the UK at all. But I'll say one good thing. If you hate my hometown so much, at least we'll never see your mush here anytime soon.
Well said Anthony! Like you ,l doubt that this moron has visited any of the towns on the list and I wonder where he does his research. For what its worth, Torquay looks really nice in the photographs and would now consider it as a place to visit.
Before you revise or update this list I’d suggest you visit Barking on the border of east London and Essex. Don’t make eye contact with anyone though, and don’t dawdle near Barking train station. Just sayin’……
Take your pick from the vast majority of towns in the West Midlands and Birmingham. I was raised in Smethwick and you could drive through miles and miles of grey, grim, rundown, deprivation, concrete, tarmac, abandoned buildings……to reach anywhere pleasant.
From Moor Street Station, which is quite nice, Cross the road, walk up Carr’s Lane, Union Street, Cross Corporation Street, and up Cherry Street. Buy a Jacket potato from the lady there, and eat it in the grounds of the Cathedral then Waldo along Colmore Row into Victoria Square, turn right into Chamberlain Square between the Museum and Art Gallery on the right and the new building on the site of the old Birmingham Central Library on the left. Turn left into Centenary Square past the new Library of Birmingham and through the Symphony Hall building onto the canal. Several nice places on the way, and it’s only about a 10-15 minute wa ok.
Being a yank who lives in Solihull, i feel like my opinion can qualify for this post when i say this. Small Heath looks like WW3. I go through there all the time to get to Dudley and Brierley Hill to play for a football club im on. Small Heath is just sadness.
At least you were able to pronounce the names of the towns better than your American colleague (?) on a very similar video covering the ten worst cities . Not very convincing.
I went to Blackpool, and found the people polite and respectful. They ARE when you go further out of London, and people aren,'t in such a rush , and have a bit more time to speak to you! It's as simple as that! Inside Blackpool Tower, it is simply luxurious, in a Victorian style. They have a telescope on top, and I was looking out to sea, so I wouldn't have to look at the buildings - which are most unfortunate in nearly all the colour of strong tea! The area surrounding Blackpool is the same colour, too!
I was half expecting Watford to be on the list as the London boroughs shove their undesirables onto us and a lot of our houses are knocked down to make way for cramped flats with no parking. The place has turned into a real dump. Good to see Luton at number two, biggest shithole I have ever had the displeasure of visiting.
Luton really should be no.1. It has no redeeming features a real shithole. I come from St Albans and as you know is between Watford and Luton and is becoming a shithole too. I got out of St Albans a few years ago as I saw them coming.
Grew up in Luton and nearby areas ‘54- ‘74. Yes it’s awful and frightening. I visited a few years back to see the place I lived in for the first 10 years. It was just so decrepit.
Yep. My cousins lived in Leagrave around the same period. We used to ride our bikes around the neighbourhood without a care in the word. I visited Luton on business approx years ago. OMG what a scary place. I was so glad to get out of there alive.
I've been to Halifax and thought it was really nice and it's full of beautiful buildings as well. There are several towns and cities across England which are way worse like Swindon, Tilbury and Scunthorpe
I will have to agree with an earlier poster, Bolton is bloody awful. I have lived and worked her for nearly thirty years and the decline is significant. The town centre is worth a special mention. Just have a stroll from the train station down Newport Street on any day of the week. Imagine a cross between Chipperfield's circus and the video for Thriller with few beggars thrown in.... lovely!! :)
There are plenty of dreary towns next to you in the Republic of IRELAND . Also, an abundance of poor, run-down towns and cities here in the U.S.A. Also a huge number of poor, crime-ridden cities and towns in Latin-America , India , Pakistan , Africa , continental Europe etc !! SO why does YOU TUBE carry this Britain-HATING " LEARNING CANTEEN " ?! And as for the narrators having English accents --- unfortunately self-hating Englishmen are not uncommon . I am an Italian- American . I counted well over 20 of these anti- Britain episodes of the so-called LEARNING CANTEEN !!
Seven kings, Goodmayes and Chadwell Heath are awfull. I've had my car number plates stolen from my drive. People dumping their house hold bulky waste outside schools and communal bin areas. So many rats around Greenlane area. Crime is rife. Kids are like hooligans, fighting on streets, throwing their rubbish in peoples front gardens and showing no respect to others around. Ilford Exchange shopping centre has gone bad to worse, selling toot, all good shops are gone and cheap shops have opend. It's quite scary at night going out in any of those areas. East London is a total shit hole, nothing like it used to be in the 70's and 80's. Such a sha😭😭
Agreed. The smug Southern narrator is showing his complete ignorance when he says there's nothing good about Halifax. He's obviously never set foot in the town.
Rochdale has or had a lovely town centre with all the banks, post office and in particular town hall. There is a lot history associated with Rochdale particularly with Co op movement starting here.
Ill nominate the once fine mining village of easington colliery in east durham and indeed the wider area of east durham in and around peterlee.. Since the pit shut in 93..it has died a very slow death and is now an unburied corpse. Useless council and abandoned to its fate by successive govts.
Halifax is the nearest large town to me & while it's definitely not the greatest place I've seen a lot of far worse places that didn't even get a mention. High Wycombe . I totally agree with Oldham though - Stand in one spot on a Saturday night in Oldham town centre & from your vantage point at any given moment you'll see at least one girl being sick, a man passed out drunk on the floor, & a couple having "relations" in a shop doorway. And I've never forgiven Oldham for the parking ticket that got slapped on my car before the time on the meter had run out. If it were cities then you could save yourself a lot of trouble by just putting Bradford as all 10 entries on the list. ;)
I have visited most towns in England so I can't speak for the other parts of the UK. My only surprise from your list was Torquay. I think I would have included Runcorn, with Dagenham and Grays in Essex as close contenders.
Yes , grays is another shithole gray by name, grey by colour , drab n grey n drab n drab ...... drab..... drab ....... dra.... drrr........ du .....huh urck!!! 😖🤮zzzzzzzzzzzz doh !
My Dad was born in Middlesbrough, but moved to Australia at 21. I moved to England 46 years after he left. Although I love living in London, I am glad I wasn't born in Middlesbrough. Johnny Clegg was born near Rochdale. He must be lucky to have only spent 3 months of his life there
Well Captain Cook was glad he was born in Middlesbrough. We have a lovely muesum here in Stewart's Park dedicated to his life. He discovered Australia so you should be thankful that a man from Middlesbrough discovered the country you were born in.
I think it's fair to say there's good and bad in every town. If you grew up in a thatched village in the cotswolds or in rural Norfolk, visiting almost any working class town is likely to be a frightening experience. Many towns grew up around industries that no longer exist for various political or technological reasons and it leaves the people who live there high and dry, doing their best to survive. I can honestly say I've been to many towns in the UK in my almost 60 years and I've never been mugged, beaten or killed. Although London scares the shit out of me 😁
The late 80s pop star Prince loved Paisley in Scotland. The Purple one stayed there eveytime he played Glasgow Barrowlands. He wrote Raspberry Beret about a Scottish Lass called Sheenah. He named his massive house Paisley Park after the town. He was never happier watching Scottish Football with his pal Rod Stewart. He would wear the full purple coloured Heart of Midlothian kit and eat deep fried Mars bars and haggis as the high calorific content would replace the energy lost in his high energy dance routines during his live act.
I Dont believe for one moment the writer has ever visited Paisley or surrounding area. As for the pictures supposedly representing Paisley ...small dead end street ....if he had turned round and pointed his camera in the other direction he would have a view over the river showing the town hall. His picture of the Sma Shots parade could not have been taken in a more dismal area. Paisley has gone downhill ,that's for sure, but your comments are a disgrace.
It depends on what people perceive to be considered boring or negative. There is no town or city that is rubbish. They all seem to have their own character and even if an area is considered boring the transport links connects it to bigger cities that can be more exciting.
How true, I doubt if he has ever been near to Halifax. I lived in Oldham for many years and can vouch for the fact that he's underestimated how bad it actually is.
What about Bradford? It’s getting worst and it’s never changed since 1950s. I agreed about Oldham & Rochdale, should’ve included Bolton cos half of retails and pubs closed down.
Benefit Dependency is main reason for most of these run down places. The fact is there are people quite happy to live in a free house / get their bills paid etc rather than do any work. East Europeans got on their bikes and made their future in UK because they didn't have the option to live on Benefits . !! Thank goodness for them ! Our own wasters are quite happy as long as they've got Sky Sports and free food from food bank . A day's work would literally kill them. They're completely institutionalised by Benefits .
@@simonsmoggyborolad7881 Most football fans agree that Smoggies are the best fans in the north-east. Like QPR are the best London fans, Stockport and PNE are the best NW fans and Forest have the best fans in the midlands.
I have one or two points of contention around some of the Towns mentioned here. Halifax has the PIece Hall, which is a wonderful example of 18th century British Architecture. Now restored to glory as a cultural exhibition centre and independent craft/retail outlet. There is also Shibden Hall, the seat of the (postumously) famous female industrialist, Anne Lister. Halifax can be interesting place. Luton is a dump in many more ways that just chavs'. A good number of former residents went missing after 9/11, and turned up amongst those killed fighting coalition forces. It also has tendrils of "Islam4UK" in it's sizeable Asian community. Hartlepool is a mixed bag. The town centre has some wonderful examples of Victorian/Edwardian Architecture, though the retail scene is very low end. The day we visited the town centre, it was almost lifeless. A huge engineering Ship was docked at quayside. It absolutely dwarfed the surrounding buildings. It was an awesome sight. It makes you appreciate that Hartlepool was once a busy as a town and port. It was the centre for a power station, now long gone. The Royal Navy Museum is a Gem. It is well worth a visit. An 18th quayside complete with a real warship. I spoke to one fellow there about housing. He told me that while first buyer property was cheap in comparison to national prices, it was often swallowed up by London based portfolio investors. Or as they are referred to locally, "w***kers". The tactic of the investors is to buy every bit of cheap housing and move in DSS/Social security tenants at the maximum rental price that can be legally charged; roughly £600 a month. With a monthly mortgage of £300 and 10% management fee, it's a no brainer in terms of investment. Whether you mind the building and it's surrounding neighbourhood being destroyed, is another thing. But if you're sat in a London Penthouse, these are obviously not on your mind. If you're looking for more moribund town's to list, I would recommend three. Rhyl, in North Wales, Castleford West Yorkshire, and it's RL rival Featherstone.
Agreed on Rhyl. Re: Hartlepool. As someone who grew up in Wrexham and worked in Widnes and Bolton, 'squalor' is my middle name. I would also make it clear that no matter how bad the place is, I would not necessarily associate it with the poor souls have have the misfortune to live there. Sometimes fate can just be very cruel and some of the very best people come from the biggest cr*apholes. That said, when I first visited Hartlepoole, despite being innured - or so I thought - to 'Sump Tank Central', my jaw dropped to my navel. As with all towns, as you point out, there a good elements. I would also highlight the wonderful Railway Hotel. That aside, the rest just looks like an aboveground nuclear shelter. A truly sad and desolate place. One can only feel sorry for the natives having to live there. But, to be fair, Reg Smythe settled there and thought that it was paradise. So, if it was good enough for Andy Capp's creator, it is certainly good enough for Andy Capp.
@@neilanyon4792 Why Neil? It’s probably as bad…if not worse. I used to work at Jessops in Batley. You probably don’t remember that place, it was at Hick Lane. Listen, Man United might not thank me but get the contract out, put it on the table. Let him sign it, let him write whatever numbers he wants to put on there, given what he's done since he's come in. Ole's at the wheel, man. He's doing it. He's doing his thing. MAN UNITED ARE BACK!!!
I've lived in Torquay basically all my life , born here . It's not that bad here , ok it's got it's little rough edges but almost any other place has . I was surprised to see Torquay on the list as it's a nothing happening town if you take away the harbourside and beaches .
To be fair torquay isn't great I live here. Ok the bottom part of town is nice and there is nice areas like babbacombe and meadfoot. Then drive through hele village and ellecombe top of tor.
Torquay ranks high among the worst towns I have ever visited. I once stayed there with my ex and everybody except us and the Polish staff in the hotel was elderly. Look behind the buildings along the main roads and the deprivation which has blighted large parts of northern England is easy to see. What an awful place to while away your twilight years. The only thing it does have that depressed de-industrialised northern towns like Oldham and Rochdale don't is a beach and a bit more sun.
That's the whole South West now (I'm from Weymouth). It really pisses me off that Northerners still go on about the North South divide. Having stayed all over the country, I can definitely say the South West is by far the poorest region. Lowest wages, highest council tax and impossible for a local to buy a house because the bloody cockneys have vastly inflated house prices by taking early retirement, started working from home, or are buying holiday homes.
@@roverboat2503 I think most people from the Midlands and the North have no idea what living in the South West is like. Your comment is bang on the button. My town is full of bloody cockneys who have inflated house prices and made it impossible for a local to buy a house. Average wage in Bristol, about £33K, almost as much as in the Thames Valley. Average wage in Shepton, I would be surprised if it is even £20K.

I lived in Torquay for 19 years. It’s certainly went down rapidly in that time! There are some beautiful places there / nearby, but there’s no real development, good jobs, shops etc etc
I have lived all over the country and Halifax is not that bad. The countryside is amazing. I moved from Knaresborough because i could no longer cope, people move there to die. And now i live in Hebden Bridge . it is really great here !! I think that you are being a bit closed minded. If you want to live in a town with no access to organic food, music , no cultural diversity , no community, not being able to afford a thing. Surrounded by trigger happy village idiots. Having to rob a bank to use public transport. Not being able to afford a home . When you buy one they all leaseholds . Be my guest , live in Harrogate... ( I grew up there , went back , what a mistake that was)! Love it in Halifax..
I don't who you are but you want to get yourself around a bit. You only going on what you've heard and probably never visited any of the places you've mentioned otherwise you wouldn't ask for feedback on other places. My suggestion is you try visiting a few estates in South East London or try Nottingham
Well win Garden City? Pronounced Wellin. I can’t imagine Torquay anywhere near as bad as Luton. I grew up in Luton, but was fortunate to be able to move away to Devon. Not Torquay. Plymouth originally, but the the lovely little town of Kingsbridge. It was home for 30 years. Overlooking the estuary and the patchwork quilt of rolling Devonshire countryside to the south west. Beautiful.
Is this down to the immigration population. I wonder because it seems to kill the holiday resorts. That is what happened to Blackpool. A thriving holiday resort killed
Whomever designed Dewsbury's town centre road layout must have assumed that Traffic lights, signs and roadmarkings, would be observed by the people using the roads. Hahahahahaha. Not likely. There is a particular hardcore of drivers in Dewsbury that also believe motor insurance to be an optional extra, like heated seats.....or indicators'. And that said an insurance policy is just a piece of paper (quite literally) and it protects whoever holds it, like some sort of magical talisman.
In my opinion St. Helier at Jersey should have been somewhere of the list. The overly business-friendly regulations have attratcated so many business HQs that real estate is exorbitantly expensive. So many business execs have moved in that they've completely crowded out locals, there are lots of pricey public schools there but only one public school for commoners. Another result of the influx of big people is that local culture is hard to find unless in museums.
You should look into Boscombe near Bournemouth. High unemployment, drugs , prostitution, gangs, murders multiple HMO's and a council who thinks planting palm trees or pedestrianizing will sort its problems.
Paisley the worst town in Scotland???? You’re having a laugh pal! Try Greenock! Paisley has a rich history going back over 1000 years. Home of the pattern, actors, musicians, poets, writers, philosophers, Glasgow Airport and the oldest Burns Club in the world, us Buddies have plenty to be proud of. Every town has their rough areas, NO EXCEPTIONS!! Industry built this town then ultimately destroyed it by moving their manufacturing elsewhere. Paisley is a phoenix rising from the ashes… just you watch.
Brighton, Portsmouth, Kingsbridge(South Devon). Warrington, Littlehampton, Hastings, St Leonard's on Sea, Oxford, Boscombe, Southampton, Newhaven, Sh*tholes one and all. These are only from personal experience. I'm sure there are others.
Good question. I was wondering that. It is a bloody sight worse than Halifax. I should know, I worked there for 14 years. The milk floats, visiting the housing estates, have to be equipped with rear gunners.
Halifax shouldn't be on this list. Did you spend a day there whilst in a bad mood or something and why on earth isn't Bradford on this list? That place is totally crap. Not sure what you're looking for in any seaside town. They have all been suffering from the same malaise for quite some time.
I'm totally in agreement with you Paul. Halifax isn't bad at all and surrounding countryside around the town is beautiful and yes Bradford has to be there because it is utter trash
Um! Carnforth? Barrow? I have to say in all honesty, the best view I had of Barrow was in the rear view mirror. Only place/Town in Britain, that I have ever been to,that I was glad to get out of! We were in there on a Saturday afternoon. The town was teeming with yobs! Shouting and bawling across the street at each other. Foul mouthed alcoholics. Pi@#£& in the street. But! The lake district, Cumbria? Absolutely beautiful. Would love to live there. But can’t afford anything. Because other wealthy Brits buy the properties. And of course the local people then cannot afford to buy many of the properties there. Yes I understand that I am being hypocritical after my last comment. But with the correct councillor’s in any area,it doesn’t have to be like this. But the emphasis is on “The correct “ Councillors. Most of them are only thinking of number one!
The five towns which make up stoke on trent are the pits , poor housing, monkey dust epidemic, literally every pub has closed down , the hanley shopping centre may as well close since half the shops are shut, debenhams gone m&s going, burtons closed, topshop closed , Disney shop gone, plus loads of smaller retailers , no where to eat in there
I would add Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole to you list. Known as BCP it was once a pleasant geriatics holiday resort but since amalgamation any money is now spent by the council in lining their pockets. There has been a lot of building done but mainly flats and apartments. Knock one large house down and build a dozen flats. Where does the increased council tax go, you guessed it.
@Rebel Historian Yep, no doubt about that. A number of years ago, I travelled to Corby to on business, and there was no bus or train station. for a while, I thought I'd never get out of the place!
House prices - especially when compared with other towns in the area - often give a glimpse about how towns are perceived by buyers. 25 years back, whilst househunting in the South East, I'd wondered why Gravesend seemed to be 'good value'. After a trip on a slow and dirty train down there, a wander round the town centre and few house viewings, I came to my own conclusions. Basically, the place was a bit of a dump.

Again thank you all our daughter and grandchildren are now back a few years now and I'm sure you'll all understand we are very happy for that
God bless and take care also please remove Stevenage from list as you're being way to harsh on Stevenage and her people

Camborne is worse than Redruth but only just. Then im from Redruth so may be bias
Thanks buddy we ain't all bad people here in the boro.

On top of your list should be Dewsbury. It was my home town, but is now OWNED by not very savoury types and many grooming gangs.
Glad you didn't say Batley!
@@neilanyon4792 Why Neil? It’s probably as bad…if not worse. I used to work at Jessops in Batley. You probably don’t remember that place, it was at Hick Lane. I met my husband while working there, we just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary. My friend worked at Batley Variety club. She married Morris Gibb of the Bee Gees.
Don't forget to add Sunderland --- a town I ran away from when I was 21 --- and prospered.

Torquay and Halifax should not be on the list
Well ur clearly mistaken
Born in Rochdale and now live in Oldham. Surely that qualifys for a grant of some kind
No, just sympathy!!
Very surprised about Torquay, why is that a bad place to live?
“Well may I ask what you expected to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House perhaps? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically across the plain …”
I was born and raised here in Torquay, and to answer your question... it isn't. Cheers, my friend.
I lived in Torquay for 19 years. It’s certainly went down rapidly in that time! There are some beautiful places there / nearby, but there’s no real development, good jobs, shops etc etc
Torquay may still seem like it's still in the 1930's but at least it's got character, and it's not a cloned shithole...
Hebden Bridge and Halifax are both lovely places full of northern character and friendly people, he's clearly never visited either of them.
Beautiful.

London isn't a town I know but its bloody mess I lived there for 40 years
Nobody forced u to stay there tho
London isn't a town it's an amalgamation of at least fifty of them.
Honestly shocked that Halifax was on the list but not Bradford. 😆
I live in West Yorkshire, Halalifax is much better than Bradford, and even worse than Bradford is Dewsbury - who in their right mind goes there?
Luton should have been no.1 Can't believe Rochdale is worse
You should look into Boscombe near Bournemouth. High unemployment, drugs , prostitution, gangs, murders multiple HMO's and a council who thinks planting palm trees or pedestrianizing will sort its problems.
Egregious snobbery, and an inability to pronounce 'Welwyn'. What a guy.
Subscribed - this stuff is brilliant. :)

Edinburgh still the best place...
With the worst council

As a lad born and bred in Rochdale l have to agree! Not been the same since the seventies.
How has Bolton avoided this list
Good question. I was wondering that. It is a bloody sight worse than Halifax. I should know, I worked there for 14 years. The milk floats, visiting the housing estates, have to be equipped with rear gunners.

Not sure what you're looking for in any seaside town. They have all been suffering from the same malaise for quite some time.
I'm totally in agreement with you Paul. Halifax isn't bad at all and surrounding countryside around the town is beautiful and yes Bradford has to be there because it is utter trash
Oldham must have improved a bit because it was the 3rd worst town awhile ago.

What position is Grimsby in?
Um! Carnforth?
The five towns which make up stoke on trent are the pits , poor housing, monkey dust epidemic, literally every pub has closed down , the hanley shopping centre may as well close since half the shops are shut, debenhams gone m&s going, burtons closed, topshop closed , Disney shop gone, plus loads of smaller retailers , no where to eat in there
Love the shitparade but I'm sure most of the residents of Clacton Cum Jaywick will be up in arms because YOUR map wasn't unfolded enough
Corby and Kettering are worth talking about.
I'll second that.
@Rebel Historian Yep, no doubt about that. A number of years ago, I travelled to Corby to on business, and there was no bus or train station. for a while, I thought I'd never get out of the place!
U are all beyond delusional
House prices - especially when compared with other towns in the area - often give a glimpse about how towns are perceived by buyers. 25 years back, whilst househunting in the South East, I'd wondered why Gravesend seemed to be 'good value'. After a trip on a slow and dirty train down there, a wander round the town centre and few house viewings, I came to my own conclusions. Basically, the place was a bit of a dump.
You're right, it has to be on a par with Chatham and Sheerness
