Thanks for the video! It helped fix the problem. The silver ring slipped off of the volume knob and got stuck in the well around the knurled shaft when I pulled the knob out, I had to fish it out with thin gauge wire. Something for others to check for if the knob doesn't want to go back in properly.
@@613Lawnjockey this literally just happened to me! Came back to the video to see if anyone could explain why my knob wasn't going back in. Thank you for your comment!
I have that problem with my car. I took it to Audi dealer to have it fix in one of the 10,000 mile services. They told me they needed to change the MMI. For almost 2K ($, not pesos) that the dealer was charging to fix it, I decided to live with it. Three years later I saw your video. Bought the spray and now the knob is working like new. It took 2 minutes of my time. Thank you so much.
Just did this today on my 2016 RS7 ,my volume knob was driving me crazy ,picked up exact same cleaner at walmart for $7 ,used compressed air in a can to blowout any dust and debri and this spray after , knob is working perfect again . Thank you!
Good effective advice has no shelf life. I just tried this and it DID work! Thats the first time I didn't mind paying $15 for a can of something that instantly evaporates. Thanks!
THANKS! This worked great on my 2014 - A6. I used Deoxit cleaner. It took a few minutes of turning the knob backward and forwards, and then it was working fine. Great video.
Thank you! Worked perfectly, all this time just didn't want to get into yet another time consuming project and quick can from Amazon and voila works perfectly

even better is deoxit which guitar players have been using for a long long time to clean their volume/tone pots. spray it in and work the button back and forth a bunch. removes corrosion and protects the connection as well.
This fixed my issue as mine was going the exact same thing. Appreciate you sharing all of your knowledge. I thought I was going to have to replace the entire switch.
This is actually really helpful. Didn’t know buttons could come off so easily. My volume button is playing up slightly now. Will try this and hopefully it’ll work
I just tried this. Took button off and cleaner it but without an electronic cleaner. Cleaned it with a soft bristle brush. Seems slightly better but the spray can you’re using isn’t here in the uk, anything else I could use without damaging the components? Wd40 etc
I'd love to see a video on how to replace/upgrade the on wheel controls. I've just gotten a C7.5 RS6 and the left side roller/clicker wheel control is not as nice as i'd like. I think you can get replacement ones, but even if we can see how to clean them up perhaps would be super helpful! :D
Gotta try this. The volume knob on my A7 has done whatever it wants ever since I bought it. The audio occasionally cuts out too since installing RSNav. Might have to mess with that big connector behind the multimedia/climate control.
No way! I've been using the volume control on the steering wheel for years just to avoid the annoying fiddling with the volume knob, trying to make it stop at the correct volume...
Good tip indeed, I have to try it on my MMI buttons (one is sometimes hard to press). Nice channel, subscribed. You will have a source of video ideas for years :D (European owner here with A7, CDUC - 180kW)

wow, thanks, I fixedthe volume knob with this (I used wd40) but now the joystick/control knob is not working any more (it rotates even when u touch the knob slightly) could it be that the wd40 affected the circuit board below the rotate part ? ps it worked perfect before and the knob itself is super clean
