Colorado River Update for June 2024

  • Today, I talk about the significant change in water management for the Colorado River. The previous allocation of 9 million acre-feet annually has been reduced to 7.5 million acre-feet. This change is crucial for sustaining water levels in Lake Mead and other reservoirs. I'll also provide a Colorado River update, including the status of Lake Mead, Lake Havasu, Lake Mohave, Lake Powell, Blue Mesa Reservoir, Flaming Gorge Reservoir, and Lake Navajo. As of June 2024, the Rockies still hold a 73% snowpack, with expected rain but no snow in sight.

    If Powell and Mead are both up over the last year, why do I see videos out there claiming the only reason Mead is up is because of the releases from Powell and in total, we have less water than we did a year ago?

    2028 seems like an reasonable prediction regarding Lake Mead crossing the 1000 foot line. This means that the existential water crisis will arrive in the Southwest no later than 2032. Given the present condition of California it is safe to predict that California isn't going to need to worry about a water crisis until 2030 and California's own existential water crisis won't arrive until at least 2032.
    The present existential water crisis on the planet is Mexico City and it might arrive as soon as June 26th, whereas there are a dozen cities in India in water crisis hoping for the monsoon to arrive just in time.

    • @Dobrinich
      @Dobrinich  2 месяца назад +3

      Well if you recall California went from 2017 to 2020 to drought. It then got worse in 21 and in 22 it went from bad to good. It can change fairly quickly in California.

      @@Dobrinich But was that a man made problem? Consider this, 2017 Oroville topped off but within 3 years the Hyatt power plant went off line for the first time ever in 50+ years of operation. It didn't go off line before 2017 during the "mega" drought. Strange how that happened. As a Californian who lived with "drought" and remembers Gov Brown (if its Brown flush it down) first swing at forcing CA into environmentalism you have to question CA's water management.
      The above brought to you from the land of fruits and nuts where wholesale pixie dust is sold, traded and consumed.
