Gas Tank Leak Testing

Suggest testing with water..air testing can be disastrous if the tank ruptures, secondly tank coatings may lift or suffer other faults so gas will leak out of the tank if not properly welded.

Would it not be more efficient to fill the tank with gasoline before sealing it off, and then light a match?
