Well, if you pay close attention there are a lot of audio edit cuts 😆. There’s only 2 ways one can do a video like this, pretend or accept.. I chose accept.
I appreciate the effort, it allowed me to bait my 9 year old into watching it. He came for the ball jokes but ended up learning something and he enjoyed learning about it which is the bigger deal!
@@pacresfrancis1565 it seems like he added extra emphasis for the next few sentences after saying that, wonder how many takes it took for that line alone!
This title was misleading. I haven’t been this let down since I trained 6 months for cockfighting tournament and when I got there everyone was holding chickens .
This whole episode, especially the ending really reminded me of technology connections. If you’ve never watched him he is hysterical, but also so informative. Thanks for a great episode.
I’m a senior plant engineer in the chemical industry with +20yrs in oil refining, aerospace, R&D, testing, and product development. I never miss a New Mind video. They are amazing and detailed and very serious. But also…. BALLS!
This is crazy timing. Just yesterday I found myself lost deep in the thought of balls, most notibly how the hard working men and women in the ball industry can produce something so hard and so smooth to the touch. I then started pondering tiny balls such as the ones found in the tip of pen's. The engineering and manufacturing prowess to produce such tiny balls is truly a feat of man kind. I feel like I have learned so much about balls from this video and look forward to researching this interesting topic further in my spare time. Bravo, excelent video!
All balls jokes aside, I like how this answers how such high precision items are manufactured at scale... They just aren't, high precision balls are individually, manually spec'd, that's impressive on its own way
12:13 He talked about alloy steel balls, ceramic balls, zirconia, silicon carbide balls & stainless steel balls but he never talked about brass balls. You've got to have those!
This immediately reminded me of what Geoff Peterson used to suddenly and periodically exclaim on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. RIP, Grant Imahara. We miss you.
Great video, loved learning about how balls are crushed, ground down, rapidly heated and cooled, hardened, and then polished and carefully inspected for smoothness. Not to mention all the different types and hardness of the balls! I look forward to the future advancements of uniquely textured and tougher balls that can be subjected to even more extreme temperature, impacts and speed than we consider safe today. Thanks for making!
Balls. I got Balls on my mind. I think about Balls all the time. This is a painful video for anyone who has an immature mind. I could hear Bevis & Butthead laughing that entire time
I think you left out the reason metal is often chosen over ceramic: ceramic is more sensitive to shock, as it can chip or even shatter, while metal will just have a local deformation
Hello New mind... I've always enjoyed your engineering productions. Would you (or perhaps you have) kindly consider radiator cap presentation please. Thanks.
I learned about the majority of the terms and materials seen here from my time knife collecting. CPM allows, carbides, grain sizes and other metallurgical properties are meaningful in edge retention as well as tougness. 52100 is a steel Spyderco and Kershaw have used at times in their knives.
But you have to have a constant load on the bearing otherwise it will slide on the races and be damaged. Jet engines balls bearings can change loading during flight. Jet engines oil can't get above around 300 'F due to coking of the oil.

I really like your channel. Really informative, perfect length (long enough to have enough info, but short enough to be able to watch it . )
0:01 balls
best intro ever
best title ever
best thumbnail ever
lofl... Clickbait by any other name. Only to be outdone by ¨The Power of Balls¨. 😂
balls.
Dont forget the retro outro
It would be better if he had AC/DC in the background singing Big Balls
how many times did you laugh during recording? I can tell the emphasis on the way you say word balls is very deliberate

That's A.I. generated voice!
You’re an idiot, I’m real
@@NewMind That's exactly what a robot would say! 😆
amazing title
Was every instance of 'balls' in your script written in all caps?
It's the reason I could not finish the video. Can't take it seriously then just don't do it, I'm not here for your lame humor.
@@Lawdog652 Are you acoustic
9:42 i was holding my laugh the entire time, but "ball squeezing" killed me 😂😂
the emphasis on "ball sqeezing" 🤣🤣

He truly said BBBBhalls
The precise moment The narrative went South was right at the 9:00 Mark.

Man, I appreciate the emphasis used every time he says “Balls”, combined with the technical detail provided it’s just hilarious.
This title was misleading. I haven’t been this let down since I trained 6 months for cockfighting tournament and when I got there everyone was holding chickens .

I bet you stood out!
someone should have given you a heads up

1 sip of tea every time "ball" is said
I was wondering where the entire world's supply just disappeared to
As a Brit, this is my everyday life.
I tried with shots... i don't feeel sooo good nowwww :)
I drowned
I gotta piss
It's hard to believe that us grown up men are watching a video about *BALLS* 💀
It becomes more important as you approach 50
About baaawlllzzz
The word "ball" has been pronounced 70 times in this video.
Truly the greatest engineering video of all times
One too many times, we were *this* close to greatness...
Balls. Yes, indeed
Balls
Great leadin. Just enough detail to be fascinating, not so hung up on details that it got boring. Nicely done.
I'm just hoping nobody uses this video for a drinking game, every time the word ball is said.
That would be asking for liver damage

YESSSSS NEW MIND VIDEO JUST DROPPED
I like the emphasis on balls as we can hear at 09:58 "something something... BALLS(!)... something.... BALLS(!!!)..."

@@dbcooper1492 Not idea what you're talking about. But the unique and smooth surface textures are my favourite part of balls and ball inspection.
I also enjoy a little ball inspection.
The deep dive that made me subscribe quite some time ago. Good to see you back at it and in tip top quality
Next episode will probably be about Uranus....
But honestly, mind blown - as so often when I watch your videos.
Your work is much appreciated.
peak science mhm
I don't think I've ever heard the word 'balls' so many times in one video, except for some adult movies, lol
'ball(s)' was said 72 times, lol
72!? Wow I had no idea
Looks like the world quite literally revolves around balls, in almost every sense of the word 😁
Thanks for going deep while still holding my attention. Others just scratch the surface.
Ceramic ball bearings I only knew existed because ages ago, I looked into high efficiency ceramic ball bearings for an RC car. Those things are WILD.
You have me dying the way you keep saying balls 😂
That title-thumbnail combo goes so hard. Can't wait to watch these!
What do the Flat Earth people think about this?
They don’t have the balls to mention it

flat Ball people. they deserve our sympathy.

Yea I clicked cuz I knew there was no way you would not instantly make this hilarious to listen to.
I am not disappointed.

Great intro, great video, great sitcom outro too!
Yea we’re all children. The repetition of “balls” and the subtle emphasis just made my day!
I didnt think Balls would be such an interesting topic to begin with, but here i am thinking about Balls in a lot of different ways.

Your videos are Epic.
I will send this to my wife whenever she is mad. I am sure she will find it very interesting and calm down.
These videos are amazing.
I like that every time you say "balls", you really put enphasis on the b and it ends up like "🅱️alls"
Honestly, fantastic video
Can’t wait for the video about internally threaded fasteners
can't imagine i live without my ballls
You make some of the very best content on youtube, just far too infrequently.
I'm sure it takes a lot of work doing research, writing scripts, doing animations etc.
Who would have thought that its possible to make such an interesting video about balls.
72 times? Is that how many times you've said Balls 😮?
This was amazeballs. Excellent work!
The ball jokes, they write themselves
As a former Metrologist, I can confirm that my uncertainty about this video is 0% and the measurements are within my tolerance.

You want me to do an entire video on radiator caps? Like including coolant reservoir caps or just the classic spring loaded type?
Drinking game, take a shot every time he says the word "balls"!
is dolomite strong enough to be used for a ball bearing, given an appropriate race?
Very good quality video

2:20 I think you have your inline specs mixed up with the rotary gerter. Flux capacitance? That a whole different subject all together
This video should be part of a High School Curriculum!
Never thought I could go so long without laughing at the word balls
nice balls bro
Interesting video, I've been wondering how they make those bearing balls so dimensionally consistent.
very cool music at the end
Id be shocked if alot of the stuff on amazon and aliexpress etc is actually rated as advertised using some of these specs
This video about balls, I think covered most types of balls, that are not the organic type of balls.
Great video; when do we get a sequel ^^
But you have to have a constant load on the bearing otherwise it will slide on the races and be damaged. Jet engines balls bearings can change loading during flight. Jet engines oil can't get above around 300 'F due to coking of the oil.
Most balls are constantly load bearing 😉
